I get what all these people talk about. How the vocals are mixed in, in a way that it all kind of blends together in a way. But I actually really enjoy the sound of this album.
Yeah, it makes no sense to call this album weak or the weakest...I would reserve such label to when a band actually drops the ball and do something silly and uninspired. But this album is incredibly touching and inspiring...it is a barrage of complexity and it takes a while to digest the very long and complex melodic lines, there is very little catchiness indeed (This will never end, the opening track, already sets the tone on this), but as it grows in you that is truly a masterpiece.

And it's not just stupidly "epic" (as one likes to say), but bursting with soul in songs like Otherland or The New Order... With the unbelievable combination of guitar lines, vocals, and lyrics. (Your soul′s like water but Your fate is like the wind) " _Here Is The New Order_ _Hope Shall Be Your Guide_ PRAISE THE NEW ORDER! (Now let my spirit go)" Perfekt.
You could say the same for NIGHTFALL IN MIDDLE EARTH and ANIGHT AT THE OPERA, and both are just their best works ever. Maybe the last one too, mindblowing
Not the greatest BG album, but it's far better than the mix allows to enjoy. I am not a fan of Charlie's mixes in general, but this one goes beyond likings, it simply sounds bad. I don't think it's a coincidence the most widely praised album since NiME is The God Machine is the one not mixed by him.
You are so right. The perfect sound for me is the remaster of imaginations from the other side. Amazing tone. Brutal, clearly thrash oriented, but with the epic melodies and great clarity. And on Charlie's mixed albums, drums are kinda muffled ...

Please explain what you hate about the "mix"... A little statement should be possible given such a strong and specific remark. I think people just have the strangest, most arbitrary reactions, especially to specific metal albums of the same band (when it's a dying - actually dead - genre anyway). (And in my opinion "mix" is a pretty made-up term, unless secondary to some more direct, simple statement, like "that's in the background/foreground too much".)
@@bfkc111 I hate the mix, too. Lionheart is good example. It's such a muddy sound. You can hear Hansis voices ( choirs and lead vocals) , the drums and Andrès Lead guitars. But you can't hear any riffs or the bass while Hansi is singing...
Oh, the album where they completely f'ed up the voice mix, and you feel like your standing next to a fire trucks sirene. To this day I can't deal with that interference and resonance-overlap in the doubling of the vocals. This album deserves a re-record or at least a complete re-mix. The songs are really good. No clue how a professional can release that. Even sounds like autotune at times (which it most probably isn't but just the resonance and bad mixing).
There needs to be a full-on discipline in acamedia dedicated to how Charlie Bauerfeind fucked up BG's albums(and the Albums of other power metal bands) Seriously, Hansi's vocal melodies are trying to fight with every other instrument for the spotlight. I pray for a full remaster with a different producer but that may not happen.
eu tbm parei de ouvir no nightfall, ouvi pouco os anteriores e achando muito chato, fui largando a banda, mas tbm coincidiu de ser uma época que eu estava deixando de ouvir power metal, ou metal melódico como a gente chamava, pois no decorrer dos anos 2000 comecei a ouvir muito slayer, kreator, krisiun etc death/thrash e as versões blackened desses dois gêneros, mas em 2023 tive uma recaída pelo metal espadinha e comecei a ouvir as bandas antigas e bandas novas que eu não conhecia, então ouvi de novo todos os álbuns do BG lançados nos anos 2000 até o ultimo, e gostei muito, reacendeu aquela vibe boa de ouvir o velho e bom heavy metal melódico! Mas o A nighth at the opera não adianta, posso ouvir 1000x, eu acho muito ruim, o pior da banda em minha opinião!
