Competition Day 3 | Mustang Magic 2015 (Hwin)

At 9:00 AM, the top ten Mustang Magic finalists were announced in a competitor meeting, and Elisa was delighted to have made the cut. Elisa & Hwin scored a 39.5 in Trail to finish in 5th place in the class. A combined score of 139.5 put them in 7th place going into the finals.
The final day of the Mustang Magic was exciting for sure. After starting the day at 4:00 AM, and making sure that Hwin was comfortable and prepared, Elisa spent most of the day just trying to stay distracted. Fortunately, there were lots of mini donkeys around doing amazing things...and a friend's proposal to assist with (congratulations Cavin and Lena!).
For the final, Elisa just decided to 'go for it,' and set up a 4' jump in the middle of the arena. Her routine included changes, canter side passes, and a little passage, all while riding bareback and bridle-less. IT has been a long week of competition, and the atmosphere got Hwin a little amped up, but, for the most part, she did a good job of containing herself. The judges scored her 18/30 and 17.5/30 on horsemanship. Her combined compulsory maneuvers score, horsemanship score, and artistic score earned Elisa and Hwin a 4th place finish overall. It was obvious that Elisa and Hwin made an impact on the crowd, which voted the pair 'Fan Favorite.'
At auction, Elisa was able to 'win Hwin' for $2,100 (the second highest price for a horse from the 2015 Mustang Magic). After a well-deserved rest for Hwin, Elisa looks forward to continuing her training in the sport of three day eventing. Let's see how far this little grey mustang mare can go!

I'd use her for barrels!🤩 that body is sleek and agile. She's a runner, has great turns! And has decent confirmation!😍😏
I feel like she would be a great barrel racer she just looked confused when doing the dressage and she isnt that experienced in jumping but she could get better but thats just my opinion

Peyton, ive been riding without bridles or halters since 1970. And not in any arena.Its far easier than you think. You should try it!

My 13 year old sister can she just controls her 9 year old saddlebred/ quarter horse with her hands and his mane she trained him to do that and she is training my Arab to do that too 😁
Rhiannon Wesen that’s really cool! Although I don’t have my own horse yet to train to do that I also don’t have much time but maybe in the future that would be awesome!
You are such a gifted rider and horse person and Hwin clearly trusts you. Amazing job!! An true horse gentler! :-) My only concern is about 120 days being enough to build enough back muscles and condition her body enough to make her last for the long term. It would not show now, but would later. More and more bone scans and radios are included in vet check and more and more horses break down too early because they are doing things too early that their body is not quite ready to do, even if their mind says yes. Food for thought. Love ur work though. :-)

They are more fit than our normal horses that have hardly no exercise growing up!..
Unless they stayed for to long in the holding pens, they are a lot more hardy! I am glad she kept the mare! she is a delight!
So true. It's not about what you can do on horseback that shows what horsemanship you have but all the groundwork allowing the horse to carry a human which is not natural for the horse

Elisa, you are such a dedicated, hard-working, talented rider! You continue to amaze me, as an amateur (if that) rider, by how you can connect so well with every horse you work with. You truly are my favorite equestrian, and I only hope that someday I can be as good a rider and trainer as you are. You listen to the horses you train and think about what is best for them, not how you can get them to do what you want them to do, like so many other popular trainers I see. I appreciate your boldness, your humility, and your determination, and I hope if you read this that it makes you smile and that you have an amazing day.

This is a living proof, that you don’t need controlling bits to control a horse. 🤷🏻♀️
No, you don't. Bridles are there for support, your legs is all that do the steering. (Also, ANY tack on the horse can be abusive if not used correctly, not just bits)

Amazing, It's like a dressage/western/showjumping mix lol. A few times at the start I thought they pulled its mouth a bit hard then half way through I realised it was a neck rope LOL 😂

I tried a lesson bareback one time and we jumped i think 2’6 and i though i was gonna die. Also they need to make riding pants that have padding down there because it hurt to walk for a few days lol.
Hwin is truly a beautiful horse. I know what riding a mustang is like when you saddle break them and get to ride them in a drill team called the Westernaires

Am I the only one who sees a very tense horse most of the time? Yes it's incredible how much the horse have learned. But! - i would like to see a horse with a lower neck and with a lot more calmness. - That would be beautiful! ;)
Absolutely. I would have loved for my horse to be much calmer and more relaxed. Would make my ride waaay easier. But she is a very sensitive horse and gets excited in the *electric* crowded atmosphere. She's not like my Fledge who enjoys the applause. Relaxation for her is definitely a work in progress,but I was proud of her for trying to contain herself and listen.

HeartOfBronco but I think it's also important to remember that these horses aren't show horses and probably have never been in a hall with that many people and aren't used to the level of noise and cheering? I remember that my friend brought her young horse to a couple of horse shows without competing in the beginning just to let it get used to the atmosphere.. the people in the video obviously couldn't do that so that's probably why the horse looks a bit tense
you do have to keep in mind that this horse probably isn’t used to this amount of energy, along with all these yelling and clapping people.
I think she was just really excited and nervous in the new environment.
