    My sister worked there for around a year, so I will spill the beans on some of the ‘secrets’.
    Firstly, with regards to online registration, it’s not as simple as being first. Most people will not get it on the first day, it would be extremely rare to get it then. They do search you on social media. During training, they mention it’s to catch ‘resellers’. In reality, this is prescreening of clientele to make sure they look up to scratch or have a large enough following.
    When you walk into the store, appearance does count. Your plain H&M shoes would have been perceived as four digit shoes. This is because you are of Asian decent (Chinese shopping tourism) and wore non-branded shoes (the most lux items tend to have concealed logos).
    There is a scoring system during the interview with an overall judgment. I don’t know much about this, but it exists. Humour doesn’t score you higher points, it’s more like a list of qualities with a 0-5 scale depending on your ability. If you score high you get access to more bags. The lower you score, the worse the selection offered.
    Delivery dates are store specific. There is a global annual quota on the maximum amount of certain bags that can be sold. So rare models may only have a quota of 5 a year. While the larger bags may have over 100. This model is actually a direct copy of the Swiss watch industry.
    They are not in the back looking for your bags for 15 minutes. My sister texted me all the tine during this period. It creates anxiety and makes you feel like you’re receiving exam results.

      Hey there Cardboard Box thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to share all those tips, really appreciate it!! You're spot on about the online registration, i realised pretty quickly after i uploaded this video that it was random/raffle and i was just incredibly lucky. I just got back from France last month and the entire 5 days i tried for FSH, i was not successful. Although good news is i grabbed my dream bag (Hermes Kelly) from another store so i will be uploading about that later this month :)
      I agree with you also that humour didn't get me anywhere so i dropped it this time. And i can definitely see the SA mentally ticking boxes during our conversations so you're spot on with the scoring system!
      Wow great to know the 15min wait time is all about building drama - this time waiting for my Kelly, the SA took almost 25minutes!
      Hope you have a great week ahead and that i can catch you again sometime :)

      Wow just wow!! their marketing is so aggressive that even if I had the money I would never spend a penny on them. I could not enjoy my birkin because I would remember the bad experience. it's insulting

  • @julietdasar3004
    @julietdasar3004 6 ปีที่แล้ว +539

    This is totally absurd! The way they treat customers you'd think were trying to sell THEM something. Why should i, as a paying customer, have to research and interview for a purse i am paying 20k for? this alone makes me feel so disgusted at the brand.

    • @cmk7585
      @cmk7585  6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      Hey there Juliet thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts! It is absurd but i must admit that from the feedback i received from other patrons, it seems that i had a particularly difficult experience and sometimes you may not be grilled so intensely. Many people adore Hermes accessories instead of their coveted bags - especially as you won't need to jump through hoops - so that will be less offensive to patrons. Next month i'm uploading my entire bag collection so hopefully see you again if that interests you. Take care!

      CMK your video was actually great, it just frustrates me with how many of these stories I’ve heard. We work hard for our handbags so it baffles me to have to get interviewed or profusely apologize for having incorrect info. Nonetheless, good and informative video and congrats on the bag!

      Hi Juliet thank you and no problem at all, glad you can voice your honest thoughts - plus I totally agree with you! A while back I thought I would never sacrifice my dignity this way. It is surreal to have to almost beg for a bag!

      ha I totally agree with you. When I go to Paris I don't bother with this store. I go to the smaller ones and look unbothered (even tho I wanna bag) I tell them what I want and when they say, We do not have anything. I tell them "oh what a surprise" and smile ( even tho I'm SARCASTIC lol ) and to answer your comment! YOU DONT HAVE TO... there is plenty of ppl who wants and are lining up. But no way I will go out of may way to spend 8K Euros and Q for 5 hours.
      Oh and by the way, I have walked in 2x just randomly and bought a BIRKIN and then Kelly bag. So if you are in EU a lot, it will happen, sooner rather than later I guess....

    Whow Hermes marketing are genius!! Having people beg them to buy a 10000€ bag is an amazing trick. Can't believe that's what happiness is about nowadays. I don't want to criticize anyone's choice, but no one should be treated like so, and the fact that you are paying for it puzzles me. The people at Hermes must be laughing all the way to the bank and even more with each bag they were begged to sell. That's only my opinion I don't own a Birkin and I am fine with bags that I can buy with mutual respect.

Why theres a 5 star restaurant serving small amount of food when u can get a food that can full you for a day that cost you a dollar ? If you dont know the answer of this stupid question, i will be shock

    I own lots of luxury handbags (chanel, Lv, gucci, etc.) and I cannot believe how stupid the process is to get a bag from Hermes. I would love to see if even ONE of the SA's could afford a birkin themselves. I hate when sales people act pretentious and better than you when they literally could not purchase the item themselves. I only shop at stores in which the SA's are respectful and down to earth for that matter! It's just a handbag. There are starving children and wars going on. If a Sales associate acts rude or better than me or like i don't deserve the item I am willing to purchase I am SO out of that store in about 10 seconds... life is too short..

      Hi M.W.Coast thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share your thoughts - your philosophy makes a lot of sense and i am glad that you buy luxury items from brands which provide you excellent customer service. That is the right way. If it helps, some viewers mentioned that they had an easier time than me so it seems that it comes down to luck and which SA you'll be served by. Wish you the best of luck if you attempt this - or even better, maybe not to pursue this bag! This thursday i'm uploading my entire bag collection on the topic of size & fit so hopefully see you again if that interests you. Wishing you a good week

      Good Vibes ( negative vibe) that is so rude. As someone who has been getting lv bags etc from age 12, I still think this is ridiculous. Despite how many chanels, dior and other bags I own, I still refuse to line up and have to some one chose my bag for me at a color i refuse. I rather pay 10k more and buy it from someone else.

      Hey there Suchismita thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts! Sorry to scare you with my experience, i've gathered from other viewers that it isn't always this hard - apparently if you score an appointment at the end of the day where they need to wrap up, they can be a lot more lenient on you. Or if you do build up a relationship with a SA, clearly you will receive excellent customer service. Or if you opt for a less coveted H bag, you'll have a much easier time. I'm uploading tomorrow on shoe care so hopefully see you again if that interests you. Wishing you a good week!

    Hello :) I'm french, from Rennes, in Brittany. 2 weeks ago i came to the Rennes Hermes Store for the 1st time (which is always empty ... ^^)(1st time in a hermes store ever) with my parents (dressed with jeans and just a leather longchamp pliage). they were super super nice and in the 4 min after we arrived we were sit with a coffee. I wanted a gold togo 32 kelly with silver hardware and she show me one which was booked for another client (??) and tell me that the director could order my dream bag in february when the shop order its bags for all the year, because i really know what i wanted ... and tuesday she just call me back saying they have a bag i could like ! So i think it's easier in province ;)

    I don't have any desire to purchase a designer handbag for myself and yet here I am...
    but what a story! now I know for sure that I will never go near an hermes store for their customer experience, I simply wouldn't be able to handle that much scrutiny and judgement from the SA.
    I am happy for you that you got what you wanted in the end and the tips was very well presented, clear and concise.

Just in case one day you change your mind, I hope you know that the Hermes SAs can be nicer than what i experienced - i was a random patron off the street, unknown to the brand, asking for their most coveted bag. If i had a relationship with the store or staff (or even my local store in Sydney), i would have had a more positive experience. You're wise for not pursuing designer bags - they're definitely hard on your pocket! Hope you have a great week and hopefully catch you again sometime :)

    So you begged them to take your money, got pressured to buy an item you, and you were afraid to critique an item because you wanted them to know you “idolized” Hermès.
    You got played sis! Cuz I know you’re not comfortable walking the streets with that $8k bag. At this price point I should be able to come in with my jammies on and get whatever I can afford. You don’t need Hermès to feel validated. I’m sure you’re a great person WITHOUT the bag. #FAIL.

I actually uploaded an updated video last year with 13 new tips for how i scored my Kelly at the non-flagship store - you can check it out here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/fV0r_PAbIEM/w-d-xo.html. I'm taking a short break from YT to take care of my newborn son but hope to be back soon. Take care until we meet again!

    Wow what an ordeal! I purchased a Birkin & Kelly in SF and it was easy at the time. I told my SA what color Birkin I wanted. The following week she called me and I went in and picked it up. As for the Kelly (which I purchased two weeks later) it was quite similar with the exception that I returned it for another color. I called her a few days later and told her I really thought I would prefer it in Black and she asked me to return the bag the following day which I did and she had the black Kelly and we just did an exchange. Over the years she has been my SA to go to. I wasn't ever drilled like you were; fortunately. I have many Hermes scarves, jewelry, wallets, dishes, etc. I was able to buy belt sets and sometimes just the buckles which now they won't openly do that but if you have an SA that might be a different story. That entire ordeal in Paris seems over the top but I suppose that is their protocol so then you may not have a choice. Last time I was in Paris at Hermes it appeared to be a quiet day! Frankly, I would not have purchased that extra piece you purchased since you asked. There was no need unless you really wanted it. My lovely SA, which later we became very friendly, did get married and eventually left Hermes to have her baby. The SA's recognize the regulars who are in and out of the store and that may make a difference. I was just at Hermes to leave my watch to get a new battery replacement and the SA's are always friendly and when I was there I saw a few ladies looking at bags. I'm sure there might be days (around the holidays) when they run out of bags and I'm sure there might be days when they just don't have a Birkin or Kelly in stock to sell.

      Hey there Yorkie Person thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share your experience - you are a true veteran and i'm so glad to hear the great relationship you share with a beautiful brand. Your SA sounds like everyone's wish come true :) It's important that when you spend so much and are such a long customer of theirs that you are treated well - i'm glad you got your dream bags and buckles without a hassle! Thanks for the tips - next time i'll make sure to buy only what i actually like and not be so intimidated. As much as i adore Hermes accessories, I unfortunately can't afford to buy regularly so it's hard for me to make myself noticeable to a SA - thus having to resort to the Paris screening experience :P Maybe one day! Hope you have a beautiful week ahead and maybe catch you again if you're interested in next month's topic of bag care :)

      Hey Mitchell thanks so much for watching and leaving such a nice comment! Really appreciate your kindness. Yes i hope i don't sound ungrateful in the video - i honestly can't believe how lucky i was to get offered such a classic cornerstone! The 35 size is the iconic look and would be perfect on taller people. It's only because i already own 3 black bags that i was hoping for a different colour tone...but i am learning with time to really treasure it and give it the love it deserves :) I'm aiming to upload next thursday on bag care so hopefully that will interest you. This is ridiculous! Hermes luxury bags are for old ladies (i.e. Queen Elizabeth), I don't see anything special regardless of the leather, stitching, gold, labor and yet alone the begging that takes place for a business to take your money is absurd.
    At the end of the video, I felt confused. I literally felt as If was watching a job interview video. LMAO!

      they are old lady bags lol. Hermes is using psychology on women who want expensive handbags. If you treat customers like shit make it into an interview to see if your 'good enough' to have one, and charge a fortune...certain women will do anything and beg Hermes to pay a fortune for these ugly old lady bags.

    Thank you for sharing your story. It seems more a nightmare rather then a happy experience in the Paris Hermes FSS. The money that people spent pays the wages of the SA...I am happy that all ended up well for you. I think I may be the only woman in the planet earth that will never buy an hermes bag. I prefer the classic chanel 2.55 flal bag small size. I have a friend that had the same experience as you in Paris and now she is considering to sell the bag because is to heavy and quite difficult to handle when travelling by plane because the restrictions of cabin space. When I told to my sister all this crazy steps to buy an hermes bag she just told me in a super funny way: "well hermes would to pay me if they wanted me to carry their birkins!!!". Sending blessings....and go for your second dream birkin.

    Yes it’s part of their system to withhold the exclusivity of the bag(s). Usually you have to buy something from Hermès first, then get offered the bag once you’re already in the database. That SA rly hooked you up

      @cmk7585  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Grace thanks so much for watching! Yes you're absolutely right. There are 4 ways to get a birkin, one of which is building a purchase history/relationship with your local SA. Thank you for sharing! What an experience and an incredible one. Your persistence is admirable and I think it makes your birkin even more special. It symbolizes your effort and passion towards the brand. Will definitely be preparing myself for this. Was looking forward to this video yay!!
    I would also be happy to take on any bag that they had to offer. Also, with the whole putting your bag on random by giving you accessory options to purchase, I think that $400 is a small price to pay, such good job on your part! I hear people having to spend $10k or even more on items before they get handed a b or k. So glad she didn’t push more accessories on you. Did you feel like you had a choice in what to pick for your birkin or did you feel like whatever she offered as accessories was what you had to buy. Thank you for sharing!!!!

    • @cmk7585
      @cmk7585  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there blackchickadee1 thanks so much for watching and leaving such a detailed comment, i love your enthusiasm :) Yes the feeling i got from my SA was that she didn't expect me to buy all the accessories she showed, there were options for me to choose from. This is probably because of the impression/image i gave her - it's my first ever Hermes purchase and i'm not wealthy-looking, just your average girl. Yes the constantly-buying-from-Hermes-to-form-a-relationship is great for those with the money but for the rest of us, it's just not achievable! So i was really glad from my experience to know that Hermes will still give you a chance to score your dream bag directly :)

    loved to see your experience at Hermes. Sorry that you had to line up that early for nothing. Just wanted to clarify that the time you try to register for the appointment online has little to do with if you would be selected for the next day appointment. I did the online appointment in the afternoon and got an appointment as well. With Hermes is difficult but also everything is possible. my friend's appointment was at 6:25 on a Sat, which was 5 minutes before the store was closed, and she got a b 25th black swift leather. Also you don't need to buy anything you don't like, as my friend said no to other 2 things that the same brought out. enjoy your bag in good health sweetie. Ben is a bit heavy, but it's my favorite winter bag, plus it is like a double work out when I go shopping with it.

    • @cmk7585
      @cmk7585  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Flora F thanks so much for watching my video and sharing your experiences with me - wow i had no idea that securing an appointment was independent of when you submit your form!! That's mindblowing...and also scares me that it's totally random and depends on whether you're lucky or not to be selected! Also good to know that you can be last for the day like your friend but still get offered a birkin - so there really is no predictable logic haha. Out of curiosity when did you both visit Paris FSH? Thanks for the tip on not feeling pressurised to buy accessories :) Yes i totally agree that the B is a cooler weather bag - right now it's summer in Sydney and i can't style this bag out with me!

    • @loraf4006

      CMK OMG, just realized my keyboard's auto correct function changed B35 to Ben. No, i dont name my handbags. lol And it also changed my name. lol. To answer your question, we went in September. We both love H scarves very much and my friend also bought some jewelries, so we in total spent more than the B that she got offered. but again, we dont buy things that we dont absolutely love. Our SA was trying to sell some home deco to us, but we turned it down, twice. lol

    • @cmk7585
      @cmk7585  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lora F haha yeah i assumed it was a typo because Ben's not the most charismatic name for such a gorgeous bag....haha thanks for the clarifications and wow September is such a perfect time of year to be in Paris! My First Time I got my Birkins in Paris, I wore black flip flop $40.00 from Nordstrom, didn't carry any luxury bag, i had my black longchamp with me, my daughter was in jeans, my husband dress casual.
    I told the SA ANY COLOR Birkin! as long as its gold hardware. my daughter and I, we both hold each other hand with our heart skips a beat when the SA Brought out that BIG Orange box and asked us to follow her upstairs.
    2nd time the following year, I still wear that same black flip flop, and didn't have any luxury bag with me, This TIME it was A LOT easier than my first. I got my second Birkin with first try this was before they changed their system. I pray to God I hope I can score another Birkin/Kelly this summer when we vacation in Paris again. I hope I get spring color.

      @CMK, I didn't want to write a long story of how I got my First Birkin, I just wrote what happened the day I ACTUALLY got one lol. Long story short, We get inline EVERYDAY at TWO different Boutiques. The first day was at the Flagship store, the first SA was flat out pretender and a liar. She knew she's not going to offer us the bag but pretend to give us little pieces leathers asked us which color we like and she just took right out of my hand before I finish. She asked if we bought anything before and pretend take our passport to scan than she came back told us NO Birkin. after a week later I start to get worn out and really angry and frustrated at myself for wasting our family time for a stupid bag. But my husband feel bad for me, he made it a mission to get one so that I won't come back with empty handed.
      I had a list of colors that I wanted but after I got so many NOs, the last day I told the nice wonderful SA ANY COLOR. Actually, I forgot. I did got offer first Birkin at a second boutique on the second day but I rejected because the color was so ugly and in PHWD. It's a dull dark not exactly green nor blu i believe she calls it COVERT or something. I have a picture. She told me that she has GOLD color (camel/brown) color, but I took a long time to decide if I want it by the time she went back another SA took the gold and she had that covert color left. It was my fault I didn't have a LONG list of choice and she's NEW too.
      Can't wait to see your next video.

      Wow that sounds like an absolute nightmare!!! I'm so sorry to hear everything you and your family went through - indeed it ruins your experience of an amazing city! • @springday5679
      @springday5679 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      CMK, indeed it pains me every time I see a photo of Gold Birkin lol. That NEW SA should have grabbed that gold color instead of come to me ask if I want it. I remember she said "It's beautiful and elegant please hurry make you decision." YOU ARE SUPER lucky to get BLACK with GOLD hard on your first Birkin.
      What's your next wish list color? Barkin or Kelly and which SIZE? I have seen Birkin 25 in person it looks so small and I also have seen Kelly25 in person but so adorable.

    • @cmk7585
      @cmk7585  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My next wish is Kelly 28 in Gold with gold hardware - otherwise Kelly 28 in any colour and with any hardware is fine as long as it's not another black :) I adore the design and silhouette so i feel pretty certain i can make any colour work. One day i would love the Birkin 25 in some shade of orange (since they have so many options haha) and the K20 or K25 in a bright colour too - maybe purple or shade of blue? I love the miniature sizes!

    Such a surreal experience, I watched the entire video alone first and thought it was so unbelievable I watched it again with my boyfriend later for him to hear the story too. It sounded so stressful, but you really managed to stay composed and focused on what you wanted! I would never put myself through such a process even if I had the money (I'm the pre-loved-bags type of person) but I'm glad you got your Birkin! It looks beautiful.

      Hi Sam thanks so much for checking out my video and taking the time to share your thoughts, i really appreciate it! It's bizarre isn't it? I dare say the stuff of modern day fables. I totally agree with you that preloved is the smart way to buy - i love buying preloved vintage chanel in particular - but the limited stock of the B and K mean that it's even more expensive preloved (since you don't need to jump through hoops) so that buying it new (in a cryptic manner) is actually the cheapest option. Crazy right? Next week i'm aiming to upload on shoe care so hopefully see you again if that interests you. Have a good week!

    Interesting video! I really enjoyed it. Im wondering one year later if you're happy with the bag/the process of getting it or regret buying it now, or at least regret any aspects of the buying experience?
    Side note: interesting you weren't "priority" enough to even be offered water for purchasing a $10,000 bag. Went into a Louis Vuitton last week to buy a limited edition SLG and once it was clear I was buying, got offered water. It was only a $430 item, compared to $10,000 and still not being offered a small convenience.

      Hey there emma h thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share your experience, i really appreciate it! Looking back, i don't have any regrets and i am glad i took the crazy leap of trying this process. It's just so rare and difficult to attain, and the tax-free Paris price is a steal which i can double the moment i decide to sell the bag. For that reason, i'm even thinking of trying once more in Paris for a Kelly! Hopefully this year, i'll keep you updated. Totally valid point regarding the customer service and lack of even basic water. It was a civil but not welcoming experience...i am going to try and stand my ground a bit more if i try again :) Next month i'll be reviewing a limited edition Gucci bag - hopefully see you again if that interests you! @@cmk7585 Definitely try in Paris for the Kelly and make another video! Seemed so cold for spending so much money. I had a less aggressive interview to get my job, much less try to buy a bag. But it works for them. The only Hermes item I have is a small Chevre Mysore Pig Key Chain, but even such a small item I know its assuring that if I chose to sell it I could get hundreds of dollars for it. I really enjoyed watching your video, you're lucky to have been offered a gorgeous birkin. To those of us who like Hermès, the whole process seems normal, but I definitely can see why it seems a bit excessive to those who don't know a lot about Birkins, Kelly's, or just Hermès in general. Lastly I just want to say that I love the way you respond to the not so positive comments. Very classy and graceful. I hope you're enjoying your new Birkin!

      Hey there Joe thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share your thoughts, i really appreciate it! Yes i totally agree with you - i remember when i dipped my toes in luxury 4 years ago and i thought i would never ever pursue a bag like this (with this price tag & convoluted process!) but the world of luxury is like an addiction and extremities become the new norm...i wish you all the best if you are embarking on your own B or K journey :) Thanks also for liking my feedback - there are some pretty angry people out there haha! But i've been pleasantly surprised that some posters are actually very reasonable - just text naturally looks angrier than it intends to be! Wow ..... this is the best Birkin buying story ever. Thanks for all the details. Just couple of questions.
    1. To be a previous Hermes client( to be in their system), do you have to buy Hermes products at the flagship store or you can buy at any other country? I live in Canada and want to buy the Birkin at the flagship store.
    2. Where can I find info on Birkin colour and types of leather?

    • @cmk7585
      @cmk7585  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alivia thanks so much for watching and great to hear from you! To answer your questions:
      1. Hermes customer database is NOT international ie. If you purchase in Canada, the French stores won't see your record. If you want to buy at the Paris flagship and be a registered customer when you try for the birkin, i would recommend you wait to buy other accessories in France instead
      2. There are many sites but my favourite source is a premium Japanese reseller: www.lecrin.jp/e-material.html There is a YELLOW link on that page which takes you to the colour selection - they update frequently too :)

    Hi Cissy! Loved your honest account on this and how you refuse to be judged for your purchasing experience as well as item (which you seem to ❤). Quick question: did you consider possibly hiring someone to manage/go through this process FOR you? I don't know why but, even if it would be pricier, I'd personally be less uncomfortable in doing. Congrats on the score

    • @cmk7585
      @cmk7585  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi cleo715 there are 4 different ways to score the birkin/kelly and this Paris option is the cheapest of them all. For that reason, i wouldn't hire someone to do it for me as the cost saving gets lost to cover their services. Since price isn't an issue for you, i would recommend you go either of the other 3 options available - (as mentioned in my Birkin review video) build up a relationship/reputation at your local store with a SA OR waiting list OR second hand market (often these bags are mint condition new - sold immediately once acquired!)

      Hi Carina thanks so much for watching and leaving your comment. My PART 1 review (th-cam.com/video/a37wFHQsjwU/w-d-xo.html) actually focuses on the experience of the bag and yes it's heavy. This is even with the Togo leather which is considered lighter than Clemence. Are you tall? If you're not (like me) the Birkin 35 (my bag size) will be too heavy already. I believe it weighs about 1kg empty. For the reason of weight i really wanted the B30 instead - even the B25. Hope this answers your question! I'm uploading again in January on my first ever LV purchase so hopefully see you again :)

    Thank you sooooo much for the tips but If I arrived in France for the first time Hermes would be an afterthought, and mind you this is coming from someone who only buys luxury accessories. I read somewhere that the old money rich buy what they like. A 10 dollar bag or a 500 million dollar painting. Doesn’t matter what matters is if they like it or not. In addition. They look down on these brands and wouldn’t be caught dead in them too “ new money “ for them. Of course, rich, poor, or in between I agree with most of the comments I shouldn’t have to go through these hoops to be worthy enough to own the Birkin or Kelly. The model who was the actual muse for the birkin wasn’t even impressed with the bag when it was gifted to her and we are begging for it! Sweetie. Thank you once again fir your tips you are such a generous spirit to share and I would follow your advice to the T if the day came that I was itching for a Hermes.

      CMK I’m surprised I haven’t gotten into them, Hermes & Goyard bags are the 2 brands that haven’t bit me. I think your videos are very detailed and you keep my attention! I love it.. you will have companies knocking your door down to do reviews😊 you are great at it. Also.. These companies that want you to spend all types of money 💰 on THEIR items and interview you like that is ridiculous, but it’s probably also why their items are soo appealing.... I almost bought a Constance “H” belt a few years ago at the Hermes store here in Atlanta and that was the best customer service I’ve ever had. there’s one thing I want from Hermes but it’s cheap (not perfume) I may break down and get it.. lol

    Best advice I can give to anyone wanting a Birkin or Kelly - don't be intimidated! It is all about luck, no matter what people tell you. It's definitely meeting the right person in-store who has the authority to sell the B or K. I met the manager one day perusing at a local store, and on my second visit - he told me they had 2 Birkins in the size I wanted. I wasn't in a waiting list, I didn't have to wait in a line, dress up nicely or resort to mind games. While I do love bags and get excited over acquiring rare styles - I don't have the willpower to endure BS tactics. I just show up and say, hey I'm ready to purchase a bag - do you have it or not? If they don't, I leave. Chances are they really don't have them in the first place :p

      Ah that's so exciting, all the best to you both!! I got one detail wrong in my video which other viewers helped to correct - the online system is not a first-in first-serve basis, it's a raffle and your name is drawn by random! So even if your husband arrives late in the day when he first reaches Paris, as long as the website is still open, he can still submit his details. Limit 1 try per person per day. Hoping for good news :)

    I LOVE your structured video set up. I’m very much a structured person and appreciate it. I do think had you denied all the accessories they may have changed their mind or in my mind I would think they’d do that and I’d feel very pressured to buy one or two of the accessories. Also I think they expandable bag is a duffle essentially in the US at least. I would have got the silk bag for accessories since I love having smaller pouches to organize things. The most expensive luxury bag I have is a Louis Vuttion Speedy 25 and love it but that cost was already super steep for me and the patent red wallet/bag strap I got to go with it while I was in Japan. One day maybe I’ll go for a Birkin but that’ll be after I have no student debt 😊 beautiful bag and great video! ❤️

Re your query, the stitching type can also affect price - retourne vs sellier. Previously only the kelly was offered in these 2 different styles (sellier is more expensive) but starting last year, the birkin is now commonly available in sellier too. I detail the difference between these 2 stitching types in my dedicated Hermes Kelly bag review: th-cam.com/video/MVskir638k4/w-d-xo.html. In terms of different leather types, this is a good guide: www.purseblog.com/hermes/leather-swatch-guide/. Hi, thank you for providing such a detailed experience. Do you mind me asking how did you carry the bag and box back? • @cmk7585
      @cmk7585  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there wlee917 thank you so much for watching and leaving your thoughts - you've raised a great topic which i was really concerned about too! Yes you're totally right that you have to be super duper careful in Paris. We took a taxi straight from the FSH store back to our home (Airbnb) as the giant orange gift bag does signal too clearly that it's a B or K. When we left Paris for the airport by subway and train, we swapped out the giant orange gift bag for our giant Burberry gift bag instead - you know you're in desperate times when you use Burberry to try and look less of a financial target! For future trips, i will bring a giant plastic bag with me - homeware brands are perfect as their carry bags are oversized for when you buy pillows, blankets etc. We covered the top of the Burberry gift bag with jackets so it looked like we were just using it to carry ordinary items. We were both dressed really ordinary - no labels/watches/camera in sight. On the subway and train we stuck by rules like sitting away from the doors (so it's not easy for someone to snatch and run), we rested our body on top of the bag so it's hard to reach into, we wrapped the handles around our wrist etc. Always watching out for each other...I hope these tips help you. All the best for your future trip!! Next thursday i'm uploading on bag care so hopefully see you again if that interests you. Have a great week!

    Is it still worth it to you?
    I feel like they over-hype and purposely make it seem unavailable so people are more desperate to buy it regardless of the price, which then they make it ridiculously expensive.
    The whole process of just getting a bag and that they do this in order to make them stand out makes really turns me off about the brand. I don't like that a person has to qualify base on their presentation of themselves based on their character wise and looks.
    I won't deny that their bags look timeless and beautiful. I love the look of it and would be happy if I got one, but i choose not to just because of everything I previously said. Have you heard of other opinions like this? What are your thoughts about it? What makes it worth it to you to purchase it? Is there a reason to why they do the process this way that isn't actually meant to discriminate like how it seems? Maybe it will change my mind.
    BTW, glad you were able to get something and come out perfectly okay after all that process, lol. My anxiety would never go back down normally after that, lol. TH-camr, Stephanie Soo also got a bag and her experience seemed exactly like yours!

    • @cmk7585
      @cmk7585  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cecile thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share your thoughts, it's great to hear from you! Good news is i succeeded in scoring my dream bag - Hermes Kelly - last year when i visited other Hermes stores across Paris and other French cities, and i had a much more positive experience. It wasn't anywhere near as intimidating as what i experienced in this video trying to score my Birkin at FSH so it seems it all comes down to luck and which SA you receive. FYI the new video is here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/fV0r_PAbIEM/w-d-xo.html
      Yes the process to getting one of these bags is ridiculously complicated/not fair and likely the bag doesn't cost to make as much as the price tag however it is mainly designed to give owners 1) a sense of exclusivity otherwise the birkin/kelly will be styled by everyone - and for many, this reduces the appeal of the bag if it means they end up looking like everyone else; and 2) investment value - birkin/kelly are one of the few bags which sell for double or more secondhand, which is frustrating if you don't own one but is beneficial if you do. There are other luxury bags at a similar price (example Delvaux Brillant which i have also reviewed on YT) which are equal in history/quality/design which you can simply buy/don't need to jump through hoops - there are many who feel the same way as you and they prefer these brands as they're not hyped/not degrading you as a consumer so you may be interested in looking into them further. However without mainstream demand/limited stock, they don't grow in value so keep that in mind.
      I also get immensely anxious through the whole process which i definitely don't enjoy but for me, it has been worth it.
      I am taking a break from YT to take care of my first born but hope to catch you again when i return :) Take care!

    Hmmm I do like the Birkin/kelly! It’s a dream bag of mine, but I wonder if it’s truly an “everyday” bag? I know it’s heavy but can the leathers withstand everyday use without looking too aged or “stressed”?

    • @cmk7585
      @cmk7585  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there Anaka thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts! There is a Part 1 to this video which is my detailed review of the Birkin for lifestyle etc, perhaps that would help to give you a better idea. Softer leathers like togo (which are perfect for the slightly casual look of the birkin) are deeply grained and malleable so they always look 'relaxed' and therefore can hide wear better than stiffer leathers. However i personally don't have a lifestyle where i can justify the risk of damage to a $10k bag when i use it everyday.....so more than durability, it's mainly the monetary value of the bag that stops me from using it frequently. Hopefully you can overcome this mental restriction? In about an hour i'm uploading my video about how i scored my dream bag, the Hermes Kelly - this time i tried new scenarios like all 3 stores in Paris and also stores outside Paris. There are bags out there that even the professionals have a hard time authenticating, what's really embarrassing is when u have an authentic and they say it's a fake, so is it really worth the price tag? My oppinion? I dont think so,

    • @SweetJeopardy
      @SweetJeopardy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kristinajefferson3609 that's also my concern as far as purchasing one for investment purposes only (e.g. a size, color, hardware that you personally wouldn't choose for yourself). You might end up with an expensive product that you won't use and that might depreciate in the long run because there's really no way of telling if it's authentic or not. I don't know how Hermès plans to address this (they should, it's what guarantees the brand's exclusivity), maybe a bar code in that kind of invisible ink that you can only see with a special light (like most paper currency has, sorry I have no idea what it's called) that references a unique serial number, this could be inside the lining of an inner pocket...though if people can counterfeit actual money (with all of these safety features) they could of course do the same to a bag, so I don't know. It may seem extreme but some of these bags retail for as much as an economy car (in the US at least), and counterfeiting is a global, sophisticated high-tech industry, not just cheap knock-offs you buy off the streets.
