When I click the "Add" button, like you in 2:49 min a Pop-Up tells me: "You have a cloze notetype but have not made any cloze deletions. Proceed?" How can I fix this?

Around 6:15, when you start using control shift C to create overlapping cloze, mine does not work. I can generate the lists format that you illustrated first, but when I click control shift c it creates a normal close {{c1:: card instead of [[c1:: card. Can you help me see where I've gone wrong? I would like to be able to make several cloze deletions that appear at the same time-- [[oc1::]] followed by another [[oc1::]]. I followed the instructions in this video at time point 6:30. When I push Ctrl+Shift+C I get [[oc1::]] and when I push it a second time I get [[oc2::]] When I push Ctrl+Shift+Alt+C I get {{c1::}}, which doesn’t seem to work within the cloze overlapper card. Is there a way to make a keyboard shortcut to insert [[oc1::]] followed by [[oc1::]]? I am using a PC. Thanks!

Is there a way to have all elements of the list that were just answered/revealed stay on the screen so that the list is "built up" as you go through it? Basically, the number of context elements before the question would increase by one every time a new question is answered.
Hi Glutanimate, I am also having trouble. I really want to be able to start with a list of blanks, which are revealed one at a time. I do not want the preceding blanks to then disappear as I continue. Please assist!
@Heidi, Eduardo, and Sean: If you go into the note settings (the [O] button) and turn the 'Context Before' selector all the way down until it says 'all', the add-on will gradually provide you with more context cues as you move down the list. Is that what you guys had in mind? As with all cards these will of course still be subject to Anki's review randomization, so once they enter the review queue they will be spread out randomly both within a review session and across multiple days. Anki unfortunately does not provide an easy way to control the order of appearance of cards that are not new. Any implementation of a custom order would require extensive changes to Anki's card scheduler and that is something I'm not too keen on exploring at this point. In any case, hope that helps!

So i was creating colze overlapper for learning a pathway ,and I made a cloze deletion for 6 steps. The problem is when i Review them they dont come in sequence like 1 colze del than 2ns colze del than third colze del but other review card is thrown in middle of the sequence is their any way that the card come in sequence as we review them?
So I added cards to learn some biochem pathways. But once they are added to my deck they get shuffled up with all the other cards in the review process. Is there any setting that I can use to keep those cards together so I am tested them in order upon reviewing them? I will get the first cloze deletion card and then upon reviewing it it brings some other card from the deck next instead of the next answer in the pathway. Thanks!

Sure. On Anki's desktop app, do the following: 1. Create a new deck and name it something like "Overlapping clozes" 2. Click on the cog on the right hand side of the deck in the deck list and select "Options" 3. Click on the cog in the top right corner and click "Add" 4. Name the options group "no-sibling-burying" 5. With this options group active in the drop-down menu at the top, go to the "New cards" tab and deselect "Bury related cards..." 6. Switch to the "Reviews" tab and once again deselect "Bury related cards" 7. Click on OK to save the settings From now on, whenever you add overlapping cloze deletions, add them to the newly created deck. Related cards will not be buried in this deck and this should work on all Anki clients.

Hi, I tried cloze overlapper and it worked really great and then one day it changed the way I watch my cards, at the beginning I used it watching all previous cloze and it was fantastic, and suddenly I only can see one previous cloze, do you know how to solve this problem? Thanks.
Hi Rosalia, If I understood you correctly. the cards have probably stopped appearing in the order they used to at the start, right? If so, then I'm afraid this is just part of how Anki works. As soon as your cards become review cards ("green cards") they are scheduled according to Anki's algorithm which means that they will start to be spread out over time. It also means that cards that are scheduled for the same day will be presented to you randomly instead of the order they were created in. Now, the good thing about the add-on is that it always provides you with the context of the previous item (at least on the default settings). So even if the cards appear spread out over multiple days you still learn to recall the items on your card sequentially. Still, it can be helpful to go through the entire sequence at once, e.g. in preparation for an exam. The easiest way to do so is via the card preview option in the card browser. Just find your cards, sort the browser columns by date created, and then use the previewer to go through them in sequence. Another option would be to use a filtered deck and sort it by the creation date of your notes, but that's more advanced and can have unforeseen effects under some circumstances.
+bootsy1209 Ctrl+Shift+D is correct, but one of the keys might not have registered correctly, replacing the selected text with a "d". I would just give it another try. If the issue persists we will have to investigate this further. In that case it would be best if you posted a bug report on GitHub or the official forum thread.

Andere Kürzel hab ich noch nicht genutzt, weil ich noch unsicher bin, ob ich mit Anki wirklich gut für mein Staatsexamen lernen kann. Für jura gibt es zwar einige gute Anki-Vorlagen, aber mir fällt es sehr schwer, meinen Lernstoff so aufzubereiten, dass er auch wirklich mit Anki gut lernbar ist. After downloading my data to Ankidroid, Ankidroid can't seem to show all of the cards nested in this add-on. Just the top of my list. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi ezurachan, no, that's the default behavior of Ankidroid. Because these cards are generated from the same note they are marked as siblings, and siblings are usually buried. On the desktop the add-on bypasses that behavior, but it can't influence the schedulers of the mobile apps. So the workaround in this case is to change your deck options to disable the "bury related cards" setting - either only for new cards, or for new cards and reviews. Hope that helps
+George Davinci I've never used audio with clozes, so I'm afraid I can't help you. But I think someone asked about this in the official support thread a while ago. Not sure if they eventually found a solution, but you could try checking that out. (Sorry, can't link right now because I'm on mobile)

Normally a typical screen is more wide than high. Would it therefore be possible to display the fields "Title" besides "Original" (instead of underneath)? The same applies to "Remarks". Especially when I put biochem cycles or anatomical structures into "Title" or into "Remarks" this option would be very handy I guess. I had a partial success with the image resizer addon, but the big unpleasant white edges on the side, typical for a widescreen display, are still there. It's just because there is so much unused space, when you know what I mean. Thanks in advance and btw you rock! You helped me so much!
Hi Mario, sorry for the belated response. My studies have kept me very busy these past few weeks. I see what you mean about the value of vertical screen estate. Restructuring the layout would unfortunately take too much time for me right now, but the great thing about the add-on is that it's fully user-configurable. Just like any other Anki template, you can restructure the card styling and layout in any way you wish using CSS and HTML. For positioning elements next to each other I would look into CSS flexboxes (though I'm not sure to what degree they are supported in Anki 2.0's somewhat oudated web renderer). These things can get pretty complicated very fast, so if you find yourself having any specific questions about the formatting, feel free to ask on reddit.com/r/anki. Some of the users there have produced pretty advanced card templates over the years and might be able to help. If you do manage to create a new template like this, please do let me know! I'd be more than happy to add it to the Cloze Overlapper wiki and credit you.

Hi there, thank you for the great add-on - it is super helpful! I just have one small question: the hotkeys you mentioned don't seem to work on my Mac (using the equivalent keys), does it just not work for Macs or am i missing something? Thanks :)
I go more into this at about 5:07, but you'll basically just have to add more "Text" fields to the note type and card templates (e.g. Text21, Text22, Text23). The add-on will automatically detect the number of available text fields and adjust the cloze generation accordingly. Make sure to also add the fields to the back and front template, though. Otherwise Anki won't generate the additional cards.
The hot key "ctrl + shift + c" only produce the {{c1::}} instead of {{oc1::}}. Other thing, i still dont know how to mantain a text in each element of the list for giving context.
This works great when I preview a card I created on the computer but it doesn't work on my iPhone app. It will only que the first option of a list and doesn't go down it

Great job. I am new to Anki. I can't follow what you said about introducing complicated things like a sublist etc. Which keys should be pressed? It would be nice if you can also place a transcript of what you said or if there was a subtitle.
Hi Sridhar, glad you've enjoyed the video. The add-on uses the same cloze hotkeys as Anki itself, CTRL+SHIFT+C and CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+C. For complicated source material you can use these hotkeys to manually set the clozed areas. Hi Rachel, sorry for the belated response. Been very busy these past few weeks. Yes, you should be able to highlight images and cloze them using the add-on. Or, if you don't want to cloze them and just have them appear for illustration purposes you can add them to the Remarks field.
Sadly no. You could assign a different note type to all of your cloze cards, but that would not automatically transform the cloze syntax used by Anki (curly brackets) into the cloze syntax used by the add-on (square brackets). There are also some other fields that would be missing. But my advice would be to keep using both note types, anyway, as they serve different purposes. Hi, I still see that you are replying to comments. I was wondering if you could help me out. On the iPhone app for some reason the cloze deletions do not show up in order of how i've added them. Upon first review it only shows one of the items on the list and not the subsequent ones. I have to unbury the cards every time to make sure I get to review all the items on a list! I would like to review all the items on a list one after the other, like how I can on the desktop. Thanks!
Hey Alom, this is Anki's default behaviour on the desktop, too. It's only that on the desktop it can circumvent it, while on the mobile apps it can't (as they don't support add-ons). Hey Sam, that particular syntax, one cloze bracket enwrapping another, is not supported by the add-on. However, the add-on should be able to cover your specific use case of creating individual cards for each item and one final card that asks about the entire sequence. The way I would set this up is by using the following "Context Cues and Prompts" config: All, 1, All (you can set "All" by dialing the pertinent option all the way down below 0, see this image for reference: raw.githubusercontent.com/wiki/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/screenshots/settings-note.png). You will also have to disable the option that says "Don't generate full cloze". If you're interested in creating more complex "cloze within a cloze" setups: You can configure these types of card templates manually. Thanks a lot for your response I seem to figure out a workaround. I allowed all cues after and before targeted information to show and then under full cloze I just went and removed the cloze around the first part ie. the receptor I need to know all the info for. So far It seems to work Ill have to see if the card doesnt revert back to its originial form. Thanks so much for your response its given me some other ideas as well.
How do I created a overlapping cloze deletion deck without sibling spacing? The Anki manual mentioned an "Unbury Button" in the Deck Overview Section, which I guess may also fix the spacing issue, but I see no such button for overlapping cloze or any other card type regardless of whether I've already study the cards or not. Could someone please explain to me where I'm going wrong?

Hi. when I press space to reveal the answer it scrolls up or down because I have pretty big cards.And it's driving me nuts because everytime I have to counter-scroll.How do I turn off scrolling UP or Down when i press space?

HI.I tried on basic card and on normal cloze type and its the same.basically my problem with cloze overlapper[and with other types of card ] is this: if I have a cloze overlapper in the middle of the page,when I press space to show the answer,it doesn’t show it untill I hit the bottom of the page.But when I hit the bottom of the page and press space to see the answer,it doesn’t scroll up automatically to the answer,and I have to scroll manually UP to see the answer. So what I want to know is this : can it show the answer without having it to hit the bottom of the page? And no,I can’t really divide the cards because I need to see them togheter[there are articles of law with a lot of paragraphs] edit: Second question,the text from cloze overlapper card is centered,and the text isn't spread out on the whole page,but rather stays in the middle,and a line doesnt hit the edge of the screen.Can it spread so it doesnt stayed grouped in the middle? I ask this because if the text spreads then the scroll is smaller.
I actually bought 4 computers trying to get this to work thinking its my fault or the computer being too old but now I'm using a new desktop and laptop and still no luck. every time i try to use this it gives a response: cloze fields are not continuous (breaking off after 16 fields). To test this, I enter one, hit return, two, hit return, three, hit return in the "original field." Please help.
That error only appears when you've modified the note type and changed its fields. As these changes will sync over to your new Anki installation if you use AnkiWeb or restore from a backup, changing your machine will unfortunately not fix things. Instead, please try resetting the note type to its original state while making sure that it contains all of the fields mentioned in the Wiki: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/wiki/Troubleshooting#resetting-note-type-and-template-to-the-defaults
I'm a pharmacy student trying to develop a deck for the Top 300 drugs. Do you know if it's possible to use the type function with close overlapper? I'd like for there to be a series of 10 boxes on one display. In each box is a "hint" that says what does in that box. (Generic) (Brand) (Class) (Dosage forms) (Strengths) etc. Do you know the best way to go about accomplishing this?
i am having a problem adding audio to my lists. the audio is playing when the question card is shown and i would like for it to play when the answer card is show. can you help please?
This is a limitation of the cloze note type in Anki. Audio files for the current cloze will only be played after revealing the answer, but items that aren't clozed on the current card will be played immediately. There is an add-on that's supposed to change this behaviour, but I haven't tried it myself, yet: ankiweb.net/shared/info/535805193. If you do decide to give it a try please let me know if it works with Cloze Overlapper.

Hi Dario, is your current note type set to 'Cloze (overlapping)' when that happens? (you can check by looking at the top left corner of Anki's "Add Cards" dialog). The square brackets will only be used if you are creating your clozes with the add-on's special note type.

+Binh Quach It sounds like your note type is missing a field or two. Please try restoring it to the defaults by following the instructions in the troubleshooting section of the wiki.
I am having a hard time generating flashcard using close overlapper. After I type in a list of answers in Original field, and then I highlight them, click add. It has been added but when the question appears, I do not see the list of answers showing as cloze overlapped. I watched the tutorials several times, but mine doesn't show in the way the tutorial is showing. Help
Hi Kathy, When you click on add, does a yellow message appear in the bottom left corner saying "Generated so and so many overlappzing clozes"? What does it look like exactly when the question appears? Could you attach a link to a screenshot so that I can see?

Anki says that it has added 8 overlapper cloze cards. but when I click the deck to review, that card presents as blank on the card. I don't know if I made changes to the card template or not. It is difficult to learn the HTML command in the card template.
I have questions for Anki. When I click browser, it opens up browser format. The names of the tag that are already created, can I delete them? The due dates of the card, can I change them? or it is better to leave as they are? because some cards the due dates are listed as 878, 710, etc. is that mean the due date is 878 days after today? I would like to create multiple cards using one note but I don't know HTML command to do that, where can I learn it??? Thank you for your response in advance.
That definitely does sound like an issue with the card templates. You're absolutely right, the HTML syntax can be tricky, and performing one small mistake can prevent your cards from showing up correctly. Instead of looking for whatever change might be causing this issue, my advice would be to try resetting your Cloze Overlapper card templates back to the defaults. To do so please follow the instructions provided in this wiki section: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/wiki/Troubleshooting#card-template
Is it possible to keep the cards belonging to each note together when it is being tested/reviewed? Such that along with the gradual build-up /revealing all the clues before, the entirety of one note (all of the different steps/cards in the one section) are tested in sequence before moving on to the next? Right now, I've only managed to set it up with the cards being shuffled so that (for example) I'll see occlusion 4 from note 1 and the next question will be occlusion 3 from note 2, rather than all occlusions from 1 followed by all occlusions from 2. I'm sorry if I didn't explain this clearly, but is there any way to do this? Btw really love the addons and thank you so much for creating them!
I think that this add on is awesome, but whenever I begin studying these, I only get asked one question/part of my lists. This happens even with cloze deletions. Is there something I’m doing wrong? I really like this program it just makes it hard to use if I only get asked one question in a list and then get asked the next part many cards later

Hi Mustafa, the hotkeys are not configurable for now, sadly, but in the next release I will be switching to a new multi-cloze hotkey. It looks like Ctrl+Shift+D interferes with global hotkeys on some systems (especially macOS). You could, of course, try changing the hotkey assignments manually within the source code (this is the position where you would find them in the file 'main.py' in your add-on folder: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/blob/45beeb2e277f59a09353212c4c16b7c01370381c/cloze_overlapper/main.py#L36-L42), but I would recommend you only do that if you feel comfortable with editing code.
Hi, thank you for this great addon, but I have a problem. When I use this with my other cards, the list appears in the right order (not mixed), but other review cards of my deck interrupt like this OC1 of the list → Other review cards of my deck → OC2 → Other cards ×n → OC3 ･･･ ･I'm not using the mobile app. ･In option, I checked both Over ride sibling spacing to new and reviewing overlapping clozes. Is there any way to avoid this?
Hi Nobby, two reasons for this I can think of: 1. The cards you're seeing might be cards in learning. These are always presented with the highest priority and interrupt all other card queues. That's completely normal. 2. You have Anki set up to intersperse new cards with review cards. This is governed by an option switch in Anki's main preferences menu (Tools → Preferences) If neither of these apply we might be facing a bug and I'd ask you to open an issue report on GitHub, so we can investigate this further: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/issues (Although I'm currently very short on time, so I probably won't be able to get to your report straight away)
Hey, I have been using the Cloze Deletion Single Card addon which is a primary requirement for my anki decks. So, when using this addon i have been having problems when i want to create partial overlapping cards. Any solutions?
Hi Bruno, this is coming in a bit late, but the Power Format Pack's shortcuts are configurable: github.com/Neftas/supplementary-buttons-anki#custom-user-defined-keybindings I'm not sure if it has an assignment to Ctrl+Shift+D by default (I'm using an older version of the add-on), but you could try and look through the hotkey options to see if you can find any conflict. For what it's worth, I will be changing the hotkey for the multi-cloze functionality in the the next version of Cloze Overlapper. It seems like it also conflicts with some global hotkeys on some systems (especially macOS).
No, you can create as many decks as you want. Anki might warn you that you have too many at some point, but I haven't heard of anyone actually running into any issues because of a large number of decks.
Awesome! One more question... How do I get this thing to work with ankidroid? Sometimes It says I ave like 10 cards, but only lets me review one. Am I doing something wrong?
Ok, so that's a particularity of Anki that's usually present on all platforms: Cards that belong to the same note are automatically buried until the next day. That's because Anki thinks that one card might give away the next (apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#siblings-and-burying). The add-on disabled this feature on the desktop release by default, but as add-ons don't work on mobile apps it can't do the same for AnkiDroid. So what you will have to do is disable the "bury related" setting for new and/or reviewed cards in the deck options. There is more information on this here: apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#deckoptions

At 7:01 I used a single colon for the hint. You actually need to use a double colon, same as with regular cloze deletions

Around 6:15, when you start using control shift C to create overlapping cloze, mine does not work. I can generate the lists format that you illustrated first, but when I click control shift c it creates a normal close {{c1:: card instead of [[c1:: card. Can you help me see where I've gone wrong? I followed the instructions in this video at time point 6:30.
When I push Ctrl+Shift+C I get [[oc1::]] and when I push it a second time I get [[oc2::]]
When I push Ctrl+Shift+Alt+C I get {{c1::}}, which doesn’t seem to work within the cloze overlapper card.
Is there a way to make a keyboard shortcut to insert [[oc1::]] followed by [[oc1::]]?

Is there a way to have all elements of the list that were just answered/revealed stay on the screen so that the list is "built up" as you go through it? Basically, the number of context elements before the question would increase by one every time a new question is answered.

If you go into the note settings (the [O] button) and turn the 'Context Before' selector all the way down until it says 'all', the add-on will gradually provide you with more context cues as you move down the list. Is that what you guys had in mind?
As with all cards these will of course still be subject to Anki's review randomization, so once they enter the review queue they will be spread out randomly both within a review session and across multiple days. Anki unfortunately does not provide an easy way to control the order of appearance of cards that are not new. Any implementation of a custom order would require extensive changes to Anki's card scheduler and that is something I'm not too keen on exploring at this point.

So i was creating colze overlapper for learning a pathway ,and I made a cloze deletion for 6 steps.
The problem is when i Review them they dont come in sequence like 1 colze del than 2ns colze del than third colze del but other review card is thrown in middle of the sequence
is their any way that the card come in sequence as we review them?
So I added cards to learn some biochem pathways. But once they are added to my deck they get shuffled up with all the other cards in the review process. Is there any setting that I can use to keep those cards together so I am tested them in order upon reviewing them? I will get the first cloze deletion card and then upon reviewing it it brings some other card from the deck next instead of the next answer in the pathway. Thanks!

Sure. On Anki's desktop app, do the following:
1. Create a new deck and name it something like "Overlapping clozes"
2. Click on the cog on the right hand side of the deck in the deck list and select "Options"
3. Click on the cog in the top right corner and click "Add"
4. Name the options group "no-sibling-burying"
5. With this options group active in the drop-down menu at the top, go to the "New cards" tab and deselect "Bury related cards..."
6. Switch to the "Reviews" tab and once again deselect "Bury related cards"
7. Click on OK to save the settings
From now on, whenever you add overlapping cloze deletions, add them to the newly created deck. Related cards will not be buried in this deck and this should work on all Anki clients.

If I understood you correctly. the cards have probably stopped appearing in the order they used to at the start, right? If so, then I'm afraid this is just part of how Anki works. As soon as your cards become review cards ("green cards") they are scheduled according to Anki's algorithm which means that they will start to be spread out over time. It also means that cards that are scheduled for the same day will be presented to you randomly instead of the order they were created in.
Now, the good thing about the add-on is that it always provides you with the context of the previous item (at least on the default settings). So even if the cards appear spread out over multiple days you still learn to recall the items on your card sequentially.
Still, it can be helpful to go through the entire sequence at once, e.g. in preparation for an exam. The easiest way to do so is via the card preview option in the card browser. Just find your cards, sort the browser columns by date created, and then use the previewer to go through them in sequence.
Another option would be to use a filtered deck and sort it by the creation date of your notes, but that's more advanced and can have unforeseen effects under some circumstances.
Sorry, but 7:45- which buttons to press for coding the list fast? I took ctrl shift and D- and my list was gone and there was only the D.
+bootsy1209 Ctrl+Shift+D is correct, but one of the keys might not have registered correctly, replacing the selected text with a "d". I would just give it another try. If the issue persists we will have to investigate this further. In that case it would be best if you posted a bug report on GitHub or the official forum thread.

After downloading my data to Ankidroid, Ankidroid can't seem to show all of the cards nested in this add-on. Just the top of my list. Am I doing something wrong?

no, that's the default behavior of Ankidroid. Because these cards are generated from the same note they are marked as siblings, and siblings are usually buried. On the desktop the add-on bypasses that behavior, but it can't influence the schedulers of the mobile apps. So the workaround in this case is to change your deck options to disable the "bury related cards" setting - either only for new cards, or for new cards and reviews.

Normally a typical screen is more wide than high. Would it therefore be possible to display the fields "Title" besides "Original" (instead of underneath)? The same applies to "Remarks".
Especially when I put biochem cycles or anatomical structures into "Title" or into "Remarks" this option would be very handy I guess.
I had a partial success with the image resizer addon, but the big unpleasant white edges on the side, typical for a widescreen display, are still there. It's just because there is so much unused space, when you know what I mean.

sorry for the belated response. My studies have kept me very busy these past few weeks.
I see what you mean about the value of vertical screen estate. Restructuring the layout would unfortunately take too much time for me right now, but the great thing about the add-on is that it's fully user-configurable. Just like any other Anki template, you can restructure the card styling and layout in any way you wish using CSS and HTML.
For positioning elements next to each other I would look into CSS flexboxes (though I'm not sure to what degree they are supported in Anki 2.0's somewhat oudated web renderer).
These things can get pretty complicated very fast, so if you find yourself having any specific questions about the formatting, feel free to ask on reddit.com/r/anki. Some of the users there have produced pretty advanced card templates over the years and might be able to help.
If you do manage to create a new template like this, please do let me know! I'd be more than happy to add it to the Cloze Overlapper wiki and credit you.

How can you add more text items? The max text items is 20, anyway we can increase that?
I go more into this at about 5:07, but you'll basically just have to add more "Text" fields to the note type and card templates (e.g. Text21, Text22, Text23). The add-on will automatically detect the number of available text fields and adjust the cloze generation accordingly. Make sure to also add the fields to the back and front template, though. Otherwise Anki won't generate the additional cards.
The hot key "ctrl + shift + c" only produce the {{c1::}} instead of {{oc1::}}.
Other thing, i still dont know how to mantain a text in each element of the list for giving context.

The add-on uses the same cloze hotkeys as Anki itself, CTRL+SHIFT+C and CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+C. For complicated source material you can use these hotkeys to manually set the clozed areas.

Sadly no. You could assign a different note type to all of your cloze cards, but that would not automatically transform the cloze syntax used by Anki (curly brackets) into the cloze syntax used by the add-on (square brackets). There are also some other fields that would be missing.
But my advice would be to keep using both note types, anyway, as they serve different purposes. If switching between them is slowing you down you could give the "Quick note and deck buttons" add-on a try: th-cam.com/video/aG2Vf-wZLu8/w-d-xo.html

Hi, I still see that you are replying to comments. I was wondering if you could help me out. On the iPhone app for some reason the cloze deletions do not show up in order of how i've added them. Upon first review it only shows one of the items on the list and not the subsequent ones. I have to unbury the cards every time to make sure I get to review all the items on a list!

Hey Alom, this is Anki's default behaviour on the desktop, too. It's only that on the desktop it can circumvent it, while on the mobile apps it can't (as they don't support add-ons). Thanks for the vid. Question, is it possible to have a cloze within a cloze? Eg. When insulin acts on muscle tissue, it causes{{c5:: {{c1::increased}} {{c2::glycogen storage}} and {{c3::increased}} {{c4::protein synthesis}}}}. I wanted to help my memory by slowly remembering small parts then remembering the whole cause of insulin on muscle tissue. thanks in advance

Hey Sam,
that particular syntax, one cloze bracket enwrapping another, is not supported by the add-on. However, the add-on should be able to cover your specific use case of creating individual cards for each item and one final card that asks about the entire sequence. The way I would set this up is by using the following "Context Cues and Prompts" config: All, 1, All (you can set "All" by dialing the pertinent option all the way down below 0, see this image for reference: raw.githubusercontent.com/wiki/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/screenshots/settings-note.png). You will also have to disable the option that says "Don't generate full cloze".
If you're interested in creating more complex "cloze within a cloze" setups: You can configure these types of card templates manually. For more information on this try searching for "overlapping" in Anki's manual section on clozes: apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#cloze-deletion
Thanks a lot for your response I seem to figure out a workaround. I allowed all cues after and before targeted information to show and then under full cloze I just went and removed the cloze around the first part ie. the receptor I need to know all the info for. So far It seems to work Ill have to see if the card doesnt revert back to its originial form. Thanks so much for your response its given me some other ideas as well.

The Anki manual mentioned an "Unbury Button" in the Deck Overview Section, which I guess may also fix the spacing issue, but I see no such button for overlapping cloze or any other card type regardless of whether I've already study the cards or not. when I press space to reveal the answer it scrolls up or down because I have pretty big cards.And it's driving me nuts because everytime I have to counter-scroll.How do I turn off scrolling UP or Down when i press space?

HI.I tried on basic card and on normal cloze type and its the same.basically my problem with cloze overlapper[and with other types of card ] is this: if I have a cloze overlapper in the middle of the page,when I press space to show the answer,it doesn’t show it untill I hit the bottom of the page.But when I hit the bottom of the page and press space to see the answer,it doesn’t scroll up automatically to the answer,and I have to scroll manually UP to see the answer.
So what I want to know is this : can it show the answer without having it to hit the bottom of the page?
And no,I can’t really divide the cards because I need to see them togheter[there are articles of law with a lot of paragraphs]
edit: Second question,the text from cloze overlapper card is centered,and the text isn't spread out on the whole page,but rather stays in the middle,and a line doesnt hit the edge of the screen.Can it spread so it doesnt stayed grouped in the middle?
I ask this because if the text spreads then the scroll is smaller.
I actually bought 4 computers trying to get this to work thinking its my fault or the computer being too old but now I'm using a new desktop and laptop and still no luck. every time i try to use this it gives a response: cloze fields are not continuous (breaking off after 16 fields). To test this, I enter one, hit return, two, hit return, three, hit return in the "original field." Please help.
That error only appears when you've modified the note type and changed its fields. As these changes will sync over to your new Anki installation if you use AnkiWeb or restore from a backup, changing your machine will unfortunately not fix things. Instead, please try resetting the note type to its original state while making sure that it contains all of the fields mentioned in the Wiki: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/wiki/Troubleshooting#resetting-note-type-and-template-to-the-defaults
I'm a pharmacy student trying to develop a deck for the Top 300 drugs. Do you know if it's possible to use the type function with close overlapper? I'd like for there to be a series of 10 boxes on one display. In each box is a "hint" that says what does in that box. (Generic) (Brand) (Class) (Dosage forms) (Strengths) etc. Do you know the best way to go about accomplishing this?
i am having a problem adding audio to my lists. the audio is playing when the question card is shown and i would like for it to play when the answer card is show. can you help please?
This is a limitation of the cloze note type in Anki. Audio files for the current cloze will only be played after revealing the answer, but items that aren't clozed on the current card will be played immediately. There is an add-on that's supposed to change this behaviour, but I haven't tried it myself, yet: ankiweb.net/shared/info/535805193. If you do decide to give it a try please let me know if it works with Cloze Overlapper.

is your current note type set to 'Cloze (overlapping)' when that happens? (you can check by looking at the top left corner of Anki's "Add Cards" dialog). The square brackets will only be used if you are creating your clozes with the add-on's special note type.
Hi, yes I'm using the 'Cloze (overlapping)' add-on...I followed all the steps from this video but I always get the same error...I tried reinstalling several times the add-on but nothing happens...I also tried different shortcuts and clicking the 'Generate cloze overlapping' button but it's always the same...the only way I can do it is by typing manually [[oc1::TEXT]]...maybe I should try to reinstall Anki

+Binh Quach It sounds like your note type is missing a field or two. Please try restoring it to the defaults by following the instructions in the troubleshooting section of the wiki.
i set it to default and it still says cloze fields are not continuous (breaking off after 16 fields). it does this no matter what i enter.

I am having a hard time generating flashcard using close overlapper. After I type in a list of answers in Original field, and then I highlight them, click add. It has been added but when the question appears, I do not see the list of answers showing as cloze overlapped. I watched the tutorials several times, but mine doesn't show in the way the tutorial is showing. Help

When you click on add, does a yellow message appear in the bottom left corner saying "Generated so and so many overlappzing clozes"? What does it look like exactly when the question appears? Could you attach a link to a screenshot so that I can see?

Anki says that it has added 8 overlapper cloze cards. but when I click the deck to review, that card presents as blank on the card. I don't know if I made changes to the card template or not. It is difficult to learn the HTML command in the card template.
I have questions for Anki. When I click browser, it opens up browser format. The names of the tag that are already created, can I delete them? The due dates of the card, can I change them? or it is better to leave as they are? because some cards the due dates are listed as 878, 710, etc. is that mean the due date is 878 days after today? I would like to create multiple cards using one note but I don't know HTML command to do that, where can I learn it??? Thank you for your response in advance.
That definitely does sound like an issue with the card templates. You're absolutely right, the HTML syntax can be tricky, and performing one small mistake can prevent your cards from showing up correctly.
Instead of looking for whatever change might be causing this issue, my advice would be to try resetting your Cloze Overlapper card templates back to the defaults. To do so please follow the instructions provided in this wiki section: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/wiki/Troubleshooting#card-template
Is it possible to keep the cards belonging to each note together when it is being tested/reviewed? Such that along with the gradual build-up /revealing all the clues before, the entirety of one note (all of the different steps/cards in the one section) are tested in sequence before moving on to the next? Right now, I've only managed to set it up with the cards being shuffled so that (for example) I'll see occlusion 4 from note 1 and the next question will be occlusion 3 from note 2, rather than all occlusions from 1 followed by all occlusions from 2. I'm sorry if I didn't explain this clearly, but is there any way to do this? Btw really love the addons and thank you so much for creating them!
I think that this add on is awesome, but whenever I begin studying these, I only get asked one question/part of my lists. This happens even with cloze deletions. Is there something I’m doing wrong? I really like this program it just makes it hard to use if I only get asked one question in a list and then get asked the next part many cards later

The Hotkey command+shift+d doesn't work, how can I change the hotkey to make it work?

the hotkeys are not configurable for now, sadly, but in the next release I will be switching to a new multi-cloze hotkey. It looks like Ctrl+Shift+D interferes with global hotkeys on some systems (especially macOS).
You could, of course, try changing the hotkey assignments manually within the source code (this is the position where you would find them in the file 'main.py' in your add-on folder: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/blob/45beeb2e277f59a09353212c4c16b7c01370381c/cloze_overlapper/main.py#L36-L42), but I would recommend you only do that if you feel comfortable with editing code.

Hi, thank you for this great addon, but I have a problem.
When I use this with my other cards, the list appears in the right order (not mixed), but other review cards of my deck interrupt like this
OC1 of the list → Other review cards of my deck → OC2 → Other cards ×n → OC3 ･･･
･I'm not using the mobile app.
･In option, I checked both Over ride sibling spacing to new and reviewing overlapping clozes.
Is there any way to avoid this?

two reasons for this I can think of:
1. The cards you're seeing might be cards in learning. These are always presented with the highest priority and interrupt all other card queues. That's completely normal.
2. You have Anki set up to intersperse new cards with review cards. This is governed by an option switch in Anki's main preferences menu (Tools → Preferences)
If neither of these apply we might be facing a bug and I'd ask you to open an issue report on GitHub, so we can investigate this further: github.com/glutanimate/cloze-overlapper/issues
(Although I'm currently very short on time, so I probably won't be able to get to your report straight away)

I'm not sure if it has an assignment to Ctrl+Shift+D by default (I'm using an older version of the add-on), but you could try and look through the hotkey options to see if you can find any conflict.

No, you can create as many decks as you want. Anki might warn you that you have too many at some point, but I haven't heard of anyone actually running into any issues because of a large number of decks.

Ok, so that's a particularity of Anki that's usually present on all platforms: Cards that belong to the same note are automatically buried until the next day. That's because Anki thinks that one card might give away the next (apps.ankiweb.net/docs/manual.html#siblings-and-burying). The add-on disabled this feature on the desktop release by default, but as add-ons don't work on mobile apps it can't do the same for AnkiDroid. So what you will have to do is disable the "bury related" setting for new and/or reviewed cards in the deck options.
