The parts stores have been in a Race to the bottom for years. I had to get a Tie Rod end for a Honda the same day the other day. So I went to Advance and got one. It was $40. I got it home and it comes with a castle nut that is to short #1, and it the threads stripped out as soon as I went to snug it up #2. I had the old castle nut so I used it. I have honestly had better luck with Rock Auto. I always get the right part that fits the vehicle. I have no problem with returns, they even give me a free return shipping label, and the parts I get from them are, well, just better quality. Even the cheap parts on there economy list, are better. And Rock Auto's warehouse A is in Ohio(as am I), so if I order the part from there, it comes next day or sometimes the 2nd day.
That is a poetic way of putting it a race to the bottom. That is agreed it is putrid. I am hearing that Advanced is in Bankruptcy and lots of trouble with the big name creditors. As far as Rock Auto I never used to deal with them or Parts Geek for that fact. However they do have customer service now days so when I am in a pinch I will go there when pinched hard. The difference is I am doing things for customers in between my own projects so turn over time is still important factor. My objective maybe to build a force of listeners not necessarily subscribers and start lobbying these do nothing politicians. People are being hurt by this nonsense and as far as I am concerned at prices of the Chinese junk it warrants bringing the industry back here on soil.
I like Rock Auto as well. Paying for shipping sucks but it’s nice not having to deal with the idiots at the local auto parts stores. I’ve never had an issue with anything I’ve bought from them.
I agree with you . The part stores are mostly folks working there that don’t want to be there . Just to get there check . Customer service days are gone !
I used to work for advance and not everyone is just there for a check, the store manager was a joke though I'll say that, the idiot didn't clean this elderly couples battery terminals when he changed their battery so it killed the new one an they came back I saw what was going on an cleaned the corrosion that was thicc, they ended up needing a battery and alternator
Thanks for the Video, Great place to Vent, Far Better than looking for a Sledge Hammer. LOL, I ordered a matching Distributor Gear & Cam Gear from Summit R. last week. I finely found out that After New Year the parts would be here. Then I thought I would look at the Reviews for the AMC 360 Parts after reading 4 Negative Reviews of people grinding and boring out gears trying to make them work , I promptly Canceled my Order. This is 1st time the Shipping Delay actually Helped me. Moral of my Story , Ordered my Parts from Certified AMC Parts Dealer.
You hit the nail on the head. The kids coming up today spend all their time on the computer playing games. Mommy and daddy do everything for them. They can't think for themselves. All they know is plug and play. Our generation played outside. We were out emulating Evil Knievel on our bicycles. When the bicycle broke we fixed it. We progressed to mini bikes and go carts. We fixed those ourselves. My background is the automotive industry. I've worked as a mechanic and parts counter person at the dealership level. I've been a crewman and a crew chief on asphalt open wheel modifieds. As for hose clamps, take a look at Wurth Zebra clamps. They are a European style clamp and are far better than the Ideal. The edges are rolled so as not to dig into the hose. The part of the clamp where the worm gear engages is raised and can handle more torque than US style clamps.
I grew up an orphan. 25 now. Had state assistance, placed with despondent extended family growing up. I had to advocate and innovate to survive, make more with less. I thank God for it, I would have turn into a victimized ignorant monster. Welcome to the new world order, Satan is the prince of this world. Orthodoxy Christianity is the Way the Truth and the Life. It’s why you see every Protestant and Roman Catholic Church empty. People don’t live the life of Christ anymore.
Ya know, Here’s a perfect opportunity for NAPA to regain ther reputation of quality products. Since all these Auto stores are using less than kmart quality Chinese parts. C’mon NAPA wake ta F up will ya!?!
I have been dealing with Napa more and more these days. The new new alternator I installed in the old Ford truck was from Napa but I had to drive 80 miles up and back from Tamaqua because our Napa down the street didn't have one. Your comment stands out because I heard the exact same words from a mechanical ally. His name is Chris Hoates. He was actually under GM car trying to get the Crank Sensor dislodged to change it out. He said your exact words not a word different not one word.
I agree with you -- I been turning wrenches for over 45 years. Times are different. But you have to realize what we did , and how we did it years ago is over. Never to return. Time to adapter and over come . No one takes responsibility for their work or actions. Sad but true. Good Luck.
100% your right on the nose... This week I have a 2010 Honda crv exhaust rotten from the 2and convertor to the muffler over $500 in parts all from China not one part fits like factory had to modify as I went to get it done. I also have a 2018 Ram 2500 heater core job the complete dash has to be removed and countless electrical connections what fun and again heater core China! The OEM is from China... I spent a lot of time at you pull it's in the 90s and early 2000s every old clamp and fitting, bolts and so on I saved I have more than enough for my own personal cars.. I refuse to use my made in the USA hardware on modern turds!.... But I do own a beater 2011 impala.😂..... I'm a high school drop out taught my self most everything I know since I was a kid... it's just sad what people today with college degrees have no mechanical skills no cooking skills no life skills no knowledge at all not even simple 8th grade science knowledge... And it's not going to get better with AI.
It truly is frustrating when you go to the auto part store to buy a distributor gasket and they ask you if it has air conditioning. They don't know what buttons to push when you get brakes for a 9 inch Ford rear end for 67 camaro! Or any crossover brand parts.
Maybe try fastenal. I'm a machinist and your spot on, Quality of everything has taken a nosedive. When you machine stuff from china you definitely gonna be using more tooling than stuff from the USA.
I bet you $100 that there is over .001" variation in every hoseclamp on this planet. Thats not the issue. Source: I'm a machinist by trade and an engineering by education
You are not an A&P off a Navy Warship like I am and for years Breeze ACDelco and Ideal made clamps all declared to be factory MIL SPEC something most rookie machinists are not familiar with or some just may have heard the term MIL SPEC but do not know the true meaning of the wording. There is no allowance of tolerance for hose clamps Military or not. I have over 43 Military Aviation manuals in my office that specifically state where tolerances are accepted and they are not. The exceptions are far and few in between. Hose clamps is one of them as well as fittings and thread to manifolds. ZERO TOLERANCE. You can find aviation repair manuals on line. Military manuals specifically state tolerances if allowed and where not allowed. Boeing Fairchild Lockheed North American and Gruman all have sections on spec tolerance and torque spec. Got it?
@@thekingsilverado3266you are in a new day and age buddy. Auto parts stores have NEVER SOLD ANYTHING MIL SPEC! You probably could find MIL SPEC parts online but you will definitely be paying up you @ss for them. Maybe for a personal project but even then it 100% is probably not worth it. Get over it that you will find anything close to the quality at an auto parts store. And by the way, get off your high horse that your military service makes you so special and more edjumucated than anyone else.
Really sad , I went to Advanced Auto and ask the guy if they had any left handed drill bits to drill out a broken bolt and they started to laugh. Most of the other auto parts stores are heading in the same . direction. Intake gasket for my truck 15 dollars at rock auto, Auto Zone 150.00 !!!
Damn man, I totally get it and it’s not okay depending on china trash parts. I love my country the great USA but our country needs to get back to depending on our country for parts and quality, I’m a die hard Chevy man “ the older chevys “ lol, the new GM cars and trucks are complete junk. 😢
I avoid auto zone, advanced auto. I've been dealing with rock auto for over 20 years to keep my 3 vehicles running strong. It has to be brand name to have a chance. I buy bulk when needed, parts in my one car garage are money in the bank. I'm 61 and will wrench till the cows come home. Keep in great shape and no way going to a mechanic with their astronomical prices! I save thousands!
Yep. If you give a shiit, stay the heck away from Twilight Zone or Advanced Autoerotica. NAPA is your best bet unless you want to wait for mail order from Rock Auto (the best.) Good rant, btw.
Just because something is made in the USA doesn't mean it's good. I have used Chinese auto parts and tires for years and most are good. I remember one Chinese tie rod end I bought, the rubber covering the joint disintegraded in pieces within a year. German auto parts could be crap also. It's a crap shoot for sure on all.
if everybody would shop for quality instead of the Cheapest price we would get better parts. its to late now cheap junk sells so that's ALL we get is JUNK!
Sadly obviously he knows so much yet so little. Apparently he has never asked a parts counter person how much they make. Here locally they make minimum wage and that's what you are going to get. People and kids that don't know anything. People that do have experience will not work for those wages. Fortunately now I can do their job and look up the parts myself. And this guy, blaming every problem on everyone but himself. 90% of his problems appear to be self caused. Stripped clamps and broken battery cable, can you say exceeded thresh hold? Overtightening. Gotta use your skilled senses.
