    This is my favorite (and most reliable) method of freemounting. Finding that 'magic' position for the first foot (about 10:35 for me) is important. It keeps the pedals from moving, which makes it easier for the second foot to hit the pedal accurately. Most of the time I then roll backwards a little to get into the forward movement position.

    I am just starting and I can now give a couple of good laps to the basketball court. I am been trying free mount with the regular technique and this one my help, tomorrow I will try it. Thanks Man. I am 46, so it is nice to see your video of a contemporary man learning as I am learning.

      Hey @unicycle Dude, I tried today and I was able to do it. Thanks for the video. I started with a rock on the floor to give me support and then without and I was able to do it 6 times out of many tries, but just keep trying I will get better. Thanks again.

    Now this may help! Thanks dude! I'm trying to learn at 56 and can't free mount yet so I will try this.

      - curves
      - accelerating/deaccelerating
      - goind up/down stairs/obstacles.
      - getting over obstacles (ej. a branch)
      - reverse
      - Idling
      These are mine just to use the uni to go around my city.

    Hello, this tutorial is very nice for beginners like me and makes everything easier. Thank you from France, where are you from ?

    By the way, if you roll forwards(instead of backwards) and catch the other pedal as it comes up you will be doing the "rolling mount". Give that a try(maybe on grass with low tire pressure), because you're about 75% there.

  • @trexinvert

    Interesting mount. I consider this a "slap back" mount. If the "force" on the pedal is a little bit forward it will kick out under you. A little bit back, and you will get a nasty pedal slap back. Trick is jumping up and weight transfer to that perfect clocking position. I notice when you jump on and for a split second you achieve "stall". Then you rock back. Then you catch other foot. So three things must be executed perfectly. Can you be consistent all the time? On sloped surface, when tired,...etc.?
    So, here's a question. Why not practice the "idle mount" where you're foot is at 6 o'clock. You don't need to be able to fully idle, just rock back once and go. You're starting pedal foot is now at the bottom, so there's no slap back possibility. Also, this mount teaches you how to idle in the future. Keep on.

      trexinvert yeah I tried the idle mount (but didn’t know what it was called). Physically, it’s super easy to get up that way. But when I did a half pedal back it was pitching me forward too quickly. Now that I know the name I’ll look it up.

      @@unicycledude5693 I think you'll master this soon enough. In addition, to your current mounting style you have some good skills/reactions that will take you far. Keep on.

    what foot should i put on the crank? dominant or recessive? BTW I noticed how the cranks are perfectlt aligned to the post

    • @unicycledude5693
      @unicycledude5693  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put my non-dominant on the pedal… to me the work for the jumping foot is more critical, because it's hard to make it land
      perfectly on the pedal.

    Funny, I was taught to never mount like that, static mount at 3 and 9 should be the highest your foot should ever go when mounting

    What pedals are those?

    • @unicycledude5693
      @unicycledude5693  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      millerman692 these are the standard plastic pedals that came on my Nimbus II. They don’t seem less grippy than the steel pin bearings on my mountain bike. Coincidentally I just ordered Race Face chesters for one of my Unis, so I’ll let you know the difference.

    It's too easy to slip when you put pressure with just one foot on a pedal. Just imagine jumping off your back foot that is still on the ground. But if you can do it this way impressive, I just think it's going to be much easier in the long run to simplify. Sometimes we have to use a gimmick like this to figure something out, until we can adjust our form.
    I never liked the stepping on egg shells analogy. It's much easier to just ignore your front foot, and think about jumping off of your back foot off of the ground. Then you actually know where and how to apply the force, instead of trying to avoid pressure.

      I actually haven’t used this method in a while! I’ve been using something close to the standard method, but I usually need to hop a few times to get my center of gravity above the high point so I can be leaning forward to start rolling.
