  • I got two bikes and a frameset. No restoration needed on either bike! The works done. Need to do a complete build on my DeRosa. How should I build this? Period Correct or retromod campy? I love my Schwinn Voyageur 11.8. had one as a kid. This one is almost NOS!

7:30 You (and I) love that saddle. Retro mod it. It would be a great bike. Stayed to the end. /// What am I passionate about? None of these racers but I could fall in love with that Voyager. I started a Schwinn collection at 70 years of age because I wanted my passion, a 1956 Schwinn Corvette. I got it and a buch of other Schwinns. I am alive in 1959 again. THE FREEDOM!

Totally AWESOME!!! It’s funny that you brought up resto-moding on today’s video. I was going to hit you up for suggestions on my new acquisition. I just picked up a 1972 Schwinn continental in cool lemon. I’m wanting modern components with the vintage look. Drive train suggestions??? It’s only a continental, so I was thinking of widening the rear triangle to accommodate modern wheels. welding on a derailleur hanger and disc break tabs. Changing to a 3 piece crank with the proper adapter. And jumping to a 1 1/8 steer tube and new steel fork. Your thoughts???? At any rate, love all the stories!! Keep the videos coming.

Old pro mechanic here in the UK.
I'm guessing the Atala headset could be a Tange variant?
The calipers are fitting to it & look great, I wouldn't worry if original on the bike or not. Original maybe Mafac or those I guess.
The Campagnolo headets of that era had different quality of overall finishing, the lower end more dull & the Chorus/Record much more polished.
Just found your channel, my experience in bikes goes back to the 1970's to current & i'm happy to help in any way I can.

Glad to have you on the channel. I am always asking questions in my videos. I dont claim to know everything. I started working in a shop in 82 and of course a lot I was working on was from the 70s up.. some 60s but not much. I think I have to change the brake levers to the wienmann with the hard white hoods. I think I have a pair. I'll keep the center pulls! Thanks for watching.

Atala models did come with Weinman brakes. Like the Raleigh International, many manufacturers offered a Campy groupo with brake downgrade, Weinman and Modolo being two common substitutes.

I would definitely keep the Weinmann center pull brakes on the Atala. I mean everybody was using them back in '69 when I started racing. Ha ha, yeah I know, long time ago. It needs another saddle and seatpost. Why not a leather saddle?

Nice take on what is “valuable”…in 1982, at the age of 14, I bought my first “good” bike…a Fuji del Rey (a very modest, approaching “lower-end” bike). That bike started me on a lifetime of riding, but the frame cracked after a few years of hard riding. Fast forward to 2021 and I found a near-mint del Rey on Craigslist for a very reasonable price. I was more excited to find that than I was when I had found a beautiful vintage Ritchey a few months earlier! Value is definitely in the eye of the beholder!

I have an ITM Eclypse quill stem on my 95 Bianchi, like the one on your DeRosa, except mine is chromed. You could build it up with either Campy 8 speed with down tube indexed shifters, or Shimano 7410, 8 speed, with STI shifters. The chrome on the Atala is just stunning causes me to lust for it. As for retromoding, what about a SRAM Force AXS electronic group, its available in rim brake but you need to go to 11 speed. Could the rear triangle handle it? I'm on the fence about cold setting. I've done it myself and I have had it done. Both times worked out ok but DIY made me really nervouse. Thanks for the videos. I am not totally up to speed on which vintage bikes have more clearance by brand. However, look at most bikes that originally came with a center pull brake, those would have more room to begin with. Possibly an older Schwinn Paramount. But for my liking, if I was going to turn a bike into a gravel bike I would look into a Miyata 615, Miyata 1000, Trek 720 or 620 with cantilevers. Just to name a couple
