@HESTIA At the Catholic Mass we are forgiven of our venial sins prior to the receiving of the Holy Eucharist. Mortal sin, the Church wants you to see a Priest to be absolved.
It's very telling that though many Catholics become Protestant and vice versa, every Protestant I've seen who became Catholic was already devout, and as a result of their passion for Christianity discovered the true Church. Every Catholic I've seen who became Protestant was raised Catholic, was poorly catechized, didn't really know what the Church teaches, and then went Protestant and felt like they found Christianity. Essentially, the best Protestants become Catholic, and the most lukewarm Catholics become Protestant.
Very True. The Protestants who become Catholic are passionate and theologically literate they just have to connect the dots, the Catholics who become Protestant want a watered down version of Catholicism.
Where have you been living all your life ,some other planet perhaps .Here in Ireland we have had the crimes of the Roman Catholic church laid bare .Child abuse ,young mothers locked up in ‘homes’ run by nuns and worked like slaves ,800 plus dead children threw into a septic tank ,didn’t get a proper burial.Never mind the crimes of the priests here whose deeds make the revelations of Maria Monk look tame in comparison .Unfortunately lots of these priests were sent over the world to continue their debauchery in those countries.

Christ came full of grace & truth & deposited the holy faith to the Apostles to the great martyrs before us, the historical Catholic Church, grace & peace
Yup, John Paul Leigh, the Protest doesn't hold up. As the former Anglican and a great Catholic convert G.K. Chesterton once famously said: "The Reformers are right for what is wrong, but they are wrong for what is right." God bless, brother.
I agree that evangelicals resist the John 6 passage's meaning. Why must we accept Transubstantiation as the way to explain John 6? I'm asking that sincerely. In all these type of testimonies--which I respect--the convert inevitably comes to Mary and effectively takes a leap of faith to embrace the church's teaching on devotion to her. I saw this in Scot Hahn, too. I'd like to hear the same exegetical approach to devotion to Mary that I heard with John 6.

One of the hallmarks of heresy is specialization. They take one idea, concept, principle and exalt it until it becomes the guiding light, to the detriment of all others. Over the millennia it has been, to take just a few examples, icons, the Sabbath, faith, works, the Bible, private revelation, Mary, the Saints. All of these are good in themselves as part of a whole. However when they are extracted and promoted as the one foundation, you are talking about heresy. One of the reasons the Catholic Church is catholic is that it doesn't specialize. It digests and reflects on the entire Bible - all Bible verses, faith as well as works, the Saints in the context of the entire family of God, heaven, earth, revelation and history. It is, as you would expect the Church to be: whole, entire and complete, for every nation, people and tongue.

Why do religious people think they need to "earn heaven?" God is our Father. He loves His children. As a father of 4 children, my happiness is directly related to my children's well-being, and so it is with God Himself! Jesus is our Brother and He is all about love, charity, and acceptance. According to the Greek definition of the word Eucharist, it is defined as an act of thanksgiving and not a ritual practice of symbolically eating the God we worship. As in this example: (Philippians 4:6) : Do not worry about anything; but in everything make your needs known to God by prayers and supplications, with thanksgiving = "Eucharistia" = Recognition, attentive to favor. Great job. Want to add that Christ told them 10 time in John 6 they needed to believe in Him and they ignored Him 10 times. Not everyone has ears to hear.
Vs 54, "Whoever eats My flesh, and drinks My blood, has eternal life; and I will raise him up on the last day." Did He say to eat the symbol of His flesh? Vs 55, Jesus said, "For My flesh is meat indeed, and My blood is drink indeed." Vs 56, Jesus said, "He that eats My flesh and drinks My blood dwells in Me, and I in him." Did He say, 'He that eats a symbol of My flesh...'. How can a mere symbol fulfill this promise? Does only a symbol of Christ dwell in us? I thought GOD Himself dwelt within us, 1John 4:12-13. Vs 59, This verse shows that Jesus taught this discourse to all the people. Vs 60,They doubt a third time when many disciples said, "This is a hard saying, who can hear it"? The Jews were instilled by many Old Testament verses, admonishing them not to consume blood. See Deut 12:23, Lev 17:11and 14. They must have thought this was something akin to cannibalism. Is this what you think too? At any point did Jesus back down? Explain to me, if this chapter is symbolic, why did He not explain the symbolism to them? Vs 61, Jesus did not back down, for He said, "Does this offend you?" He knew their thoughts and He certainly knew the Old Testament verses about the consumption of blood. In the next verse, He separated spiritual things from earthly things. 👍👍Vs 63*, Jesus said, "It is the spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing. The words I speak to you, they are spirit, and they are life." Did He say He was speaking figuratively or in parables? This is the second verse detractors use to try to "prove" that Jesus spoke figuratively for the whole chapter. Did Jesus say "My" flesh? No, He said "the" flesh. What Jesus had said was, that we cannot accept this mystery if we accept it in too human a way, by having an earthly view of things. Those who can only think of cannibalism, are they not having an earthly view? See John 3:6, "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." Verse 63 means that we should not have a carnal human understanding of His words, but a spiritual understanding. In John, chapter 6, Jesus had not only called the 12 Apostles, there was also much larger group of other disciples. Things seemed to be going pretty well. That is until Jesus said “For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.” This was too much for many of his disciples and “From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.” Jesus turns to the 12 and asks, “Will ye also go away? Simon Peter gives the same answer that I find myself saying to those who tell me I should leave the Catholic Church for this reason or that one, “Lord, to whom shall we go?” No matter what a certain priest does, no matter what scandals hit the church, despite whatever corruption or abuse of power might exist, and despite whatever mistakes the Church has made throughout history, “to whom shall we go?” for here is the body and blood of Christ given for a sinner as miserable as I. Matt. 26:26-28; Mark. 14:22,24; Luke 22;19-20; 1 Cor. 11:24-25 - Jesus says, this IS my body and blood. Jesus does not say, this is a symbol of my body and blood. Is there a pattern here? Professional evangelical theologians procuring posts teaching or professionally evangelizing on behalf of the Catholic church. I don't doubt their sincerity. Genuine question.
The Protestants who come home are on fire and have a working knowledge of the faith, particularly Scripture, that many cradle Catholics lack. They have mentally "rebuilt" the faith in the process of becoming Catholic and are in an excellent position then to teach. I am afraid many of the best native candidates are bogged down in the mind numbing liturgy wars and "reporting" on Vatican rumors, which tend to render them Protestants in spirit. Is a man in love with a particular Mass, arguing against the validity of the last ecumenical council, really in a position to teach the faith? No, unfortunately. Our fully reunited brethren tend to be on guard against such attitudes and know how to have a relationship with the current Peter. Not all (I am looking you Taylor Marshall) but enough to make a pattern.

As for holding fast to and a deep grasp of scripture, not a requirement for the Catholics in the faith, imo. We have the church to do that for us.
@@Kitiwake - I agree that Scripture knowledge is not a requirement for a Catholic and that it is the Church's job to hold onto it for us. That said, the whole first part of the Mass is Scripture reading. Hopefully the Church isn't wasting everyone's time by proclaiming it. Paying attention to Scripture, even though it's not a personal responsibility is part of our formation, at least it seems to me. Also if the goal is to bring Protestants home in particular, then a working knowledge of Scripture is a must in way that it doesn't matter for someone never exposed to the mindset. Anyway, I think you have hit on problem, which is selection bias. The people who even get these jobs are a minority of Protestants who come home. Most Protestant pastors and teachers coming home need to find other work, which someone said in an interview around here. 🙂 In this story, he clearly had a talent and enthusiasm obvious to his first professors. I'm glad you found a tradition that makes you happy. The veneration of Mary occurred after the church had been around over 1,000 years. But you do you.
Ambrose, who lived in Rome before going to Milan as its bishop, venerated Mary as an example of Christian life and is credited with starting a Marian cult of virginity in the 4th century. Marian veneration was theologically sanctioned with the adoption of the title Theotokos at the Council of Ephesus in 431.
Marian devotion-and devotion to the saints in general-existed in the early Church, as St. Irenaeus affirms in the late second century: For as Eve was seduced by the word of an angel to flee from God, having rebelled against His Word, so Mary by the word of an angel received the glad tidings that she would bear God by obeying his Word. The former was seduced to disobey God, but the latter was persuaded to obey God, so that the Virgin Mary might become the advocate of the virgin Eve. As the human race was subjected to death through [the act of] a virgin, so it was saved through a virgin” (Irenaeus, Against Heresies, V: 19, 1).
@CoffeeLover-mz7bk - the Tradition of the Bible occurred after the church had been around over 400 years also soooo… History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, not only did they not agree but their list of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time. So, if it wasn't the Catholic/Orthodox church that compiled the 27 books of the NT in the 5th century with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and preserved it by laboriously hand copying them over and over throughout the centuries before the invention of the printing press, the “rule of faith” for many, please tell us, show us, who did? And if this church no longer exists today, what good is the text which came forth from her if she couldn't sustain herself?
As to his teenage conversion experience, it is notable that the word "believe" was not used. Yet the way of salvation is presented over & over, perhaps over 100 times as giving faith (trust in the Lord Jesus, in OT trust in YHWH) as the only condition for salvation: What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus & thou shalt be saved, Acts 16. Regardless of the verbiage, if he sincerely trusted Christ as Savior, then He received a transformation & the gift of eternal life with the Lord Jesus. This, of course, requires that one have "Jesus" adequately defined in one's mind. The Lord Jesus is the risen 2nd Person of the Trinity, God become man, not Jesús the Mexican car mechanic or Michael the archangel. If Reed turned to the idolatry of pope-ism, bowing to statues & pretending to sacrifice Christ over & over in the Mass with worshipping bread, deeming it Christ's body, then I disbelieve that he ever actually trusted Christ as Savior & got the transformation from sinful child of Adam to child of God.

You are spot on! 😊
Very True. The Protestants who become Catholic are passionate and theologically literate they just have to connect the dots, the Catholics who become Protestant want a watered down version of Catholicism.
My observations as well.
The Coming Home Network, along with EWTN, was an integral part of my request to enter the Roman Catholic Church. Thank you Marcus!

01:54 📚 Dr. Reed's journey into theology and philosophy led him to pursue a career as an Evangelical philosophy professor, driven by a desire to defend the faith and address philosophical questions.
05:26 🤔 Dr. Reed questioned the diversity of theological views within Evangelicalism and realized the importance of understanding the historic Christian faith.
06:38 ✝️ His logical examination of Scripture, specifically regarding the Eucharist, led him to consider the Roman Catholic Church as the true representation of his beliefs.

It is, as you would expect the Church to be: whole, entire and complete, for every nation, people and tongue.

raise him up on the last day." Did He say to eat the symbol of His flesh?
Vs 55, Jesus said, "For My flesh is meat indeed, and My blood is drink indeed."
Vs 56, Jesus said, "He that eats My flesh and drinks My blood dwells in Me, and I in him."
Did He say, 'He that eats a symbol of My flesh...'.
Vs 61, Jesus did not back down, for He said, "Does this offend you?"
He knew their thoughts and He certainly knew the Old Testament verses about the consumption of blood.
In the next verse, He separated spiritual things from earthly things.
👍👍Vs 63*, Jesus said, "It is the spirit that quickens; the flesh profits nothing. The words I speak to you, they are spirit, and they are life."
Did He say He was speaking figuratively or in parables?
Matt. 26:26; Mark. 14:22; Luke 22:19-20 - the Greek phrase is "Toutoestin to soma mou." This phraseology means "this is actually" or "this is really" my body and blood😉😉

It is written in scripture that there will be a great "apostasy" in the last days. Why would anyone leave their church and join the most idolatrous religion of today?
The apostasy was Luther, who destroyed chistendom and introduced relativism and choose your own truth. That is the reason your society is secular and godless.
I don't get it?
So happy to be a born again Christian Protestant...no need but Christ to be my intercessor; Certainly, no need to jump through Catholic hoops.

@@Charles-jg8dz If I may say - the Holy Spirit leads us. I would never call you a "fool" for your efforts to find your home in Christianity. The fact that you are interested in these posts suggests to me that you are still of an open mind, and still perhaps searching - as we all should do. If we can share some Christian hospitality between ourselves as "Christians", perhaps Satan would not have such a foothold in our society. @@Charles-jg8dz Appreciate the reply. Perhaps less accusations would help us all get along better. All humans are in a fallen state - I believe all Christian denominations accept that. Satan loves division. Love you brother Charles, and I am sure Jesus does too!
@jlouis4407 *Bible describes "traditions of men" this way: Mar 7:8, Col 2:8*
1. Anything not from the commandment of God or Mosaic Law were called tradition of men.
2. Philosophies based on principles of the world and not according to Christ/God were called traditions of men.
Mar 7:8 *For laying aside the commandment of God* , you hold the *tradition of men* -the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do."
Col 2:8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the *tradition of men* , according to the basic principles of the world, and *not according to Christ*
*Many Roman Catholic traditions (doctrines) were not based on commandments of God/Jesus or Mosaic Law. And they were not according to God/Jesus. A lot were based on philosophies of the world too. So they should be discarded.*
*Examples of that: Jesus did not command making of statues and bowing to them in a Church. These kind of traditions should be discarded. And many more.*

Is there a pattern here?
Professional evangelical theologians procuring posts teaching or professionally evangelizing on behalf of the Catholic church.
I don't doubt their sincerity.
Genuine question.
dishonest question, revealing your bigoted mind
@@atrifle8364 you write of a vocal but tiny minority of Catholics who idolize one form of liturgy and I agree with you on that.
Maybe there's only a tiny minority of converts who get the special attention I mentioned in my previous post here.
I suppose that's me answering my own question.
Not everyone gets urged to be a professor and is tad reluctant to pursue it.
I know Dr. Marshall personally. Very down to earth, humble person who loves worshiping God, especially in the form of the mass. His calling is to inform people of whats going on so they don’t lose the faith. Men who are informed aren’t struggling with being Catholic but rather know what direction to take their family to live the faith, faithfully and with like minded individuals.

I'm glad you found a tradition that makes you happy. The veneration of Mary occurred after the church had been around over 1,000 years. But you do you.
It began long before that.
Irenaeus affirms in the late second century:
For as Eve was seduced by the word of an angel to flee from God, having rebelled against His Word, so Mary by the word of an angel received the glad tidings that she would bear God by obeying his Word.
Read St. Ignatius of Antioch on Mary, it began right away, God bless!
@CoffeeLover-mz7bk - the Tradition of the Bible occurred after the church had been around over 400 years also soooo…
History shows us that Jesus didn't leave us a bible, the apostles didn't tell us which books belong in the bible, the church fathers never agreed on the 27 books of the NT through the 4th century, not only did they not agree but their list of would-be NT canons were GROWING during this time.
