And that’s why it’s best to play as a thief, then the group will have Alistair (Tank), Morrie (mage), your character (thief and Damage Dealer) + someone you wish.
Has nobody told her that the little hand under the character portraits on the top left means that the characters will not follow their tactics, but have to be constantly ordered.
do not give up on morrigan and leave her at camp. she has one of the best character growth out of any rpg i have played . keep in mind she is not used to normal human interaction or understanding
Tip: You may have worked this out before the end of the episode (I'm still near the beginning), but just in case you haven't, the little hand symbol underneath the character portraits, will toggle your companions between Hold Position and Move Freely. I'm guessing you've currently got it set to Hold Position, which is why they won't attack anyone independently. Change it to Move Freely and they will attack other enemies, instead of just standing around, watching you do all the work!
31:50 Dude Basic is such a good hearted soul 😊 I would never waste an injury kit for a party member called "tower guard" hinting that the guy is not gonna stick around forever.
“You guys knew, this whole time you guys knew” We did. But what would you have us do, spoil one of the most memorable, impactful parts of the game? No, better that you experience it blind and form your own opinions. We can suggest paths to take, things to pay attention to, characters to speak with, hint towards things and such, but outright spoilers are a massive NO. Incidentally, would strongly suggest doing Redcliffe last.
It's amazing how the game is so permissive to errors. A min-maxed mage character in the party would contribute north of 80% of the total damage in DAO, there's even a stat tab on the character screen (C) telling you the exact number. In this playthrough, it's probably something close to 10% and there's still not as many wipes as I expected. Hat's off to the devs for such a careful approach that allows for both good progress and that feeling of challenge to be so well balanced.
Ooooooh, I'm remembering how PISSED I was at a certain character's actions during the war, and how that spite and anger fueled me for the rest of the game. xD
I enjoy this playthrough a lot, brings back lots of memories, and you're fun, but good god, the pain when you blew past the Taunt skill and gave an archery one to Alistair lol lmao
I've been waiting to see your reaction to the betrayal and certain people's deaths. It was everything I hoped for 😁 I was absolutely shocked the first time I played this game. The aftermath at Flemeth's hut makes it hit home just how much the odds are against you and Alistair, the two newest and now only Fereldan Grey Wardens. I'm not very creative and I call my mabari Wrex, because I also like the ME callback. Barkangel tho? A++++ name!
You can bind (by drag and drop) healing potions or spells to the quick access bar. Morrigan has Mind Blast spell that stuns nearby enemies, and she's funny pissing of Alistar;)
I think you're getting the hang of it gameplay-wise and we're just now getting into the thick of it story-wise. Leliana is an interesting character and I love that you immediately swapped her for Morrigan despite disagreeing with her approach and doing what Morrigan would have done. This is going to be great Basic!
Basic mage thinking to her self: why don't my boys what to be anywhere near me. ((sigh)) i wish they would just follow me around. Basic mage: Boys stand exactly here!!! ((points to a spot on the floor with her deadly deadly hands)) the boys: yes ma'am ((they panic run to exactly where she tells them to go)) ((after the basic mage is a little bit in front)) solider: i hear the grey wardens wanted her because she ripped some demons in half with her bare hands tower guard: i am happy she is on our side did you see the knuckle scars Alistair: well i am not gonna make her mad so i am staaaying right here until she tells me to jump.
Strategy tip for the Orge in the tower, should you decide to replace this game: press the hold button so the characters stand still, then click on each character while it's paused and command them to move to a spot in the room and space each character far apart, equipt every character with a staff or a bow, then you use Alistair to taunt the Orge and then you kite the orge around, then the orge changes target, take control of that character and start running away and have Alistair shoot his bow, it's really easy that way.
When you exit location and world map shows up, then in upper right corner there is camp icon where you can interact with characters and do item management. It's the other way around, BG3 picked it up from this game. About putting items like heal in slots, they just gray out (like that shard from fade your character still has equipped in one slot) if you used them all, so you don't have to re-equip. But you do have to do it for each character...I think. You can drag that bar all the way to monitor length but late in game with ~50 abilities and spells even that is not enough...there is a mod to drag it in 2 rows.
Morrigan+Sten - Morrigan + Dog - Morrigan+Allistar - Morrigan+Leliana have the most entertaining banter hahaha. Oh and if you love dogs, attention with Loghain not going to spoil it but he has such an amazing backstory related to that but its hidden and you got to find it a bit close to the end.
Micromanaging every fight is so exhausting. You learned how to set up tactics in the prologue, just let AI do its things, they are perfectly capable of resolving like 95% of fights without your input. Just update tactics occasionally as they get more skills and spells. And please let the characters move, you keep them at “hold position”
You know, I appreciate your input, but I'm trying to learn as I go and my brain best retains abilities and actions and what not by manually controlling while I learn. This game is a journey for all of us! 😂
It's not for everybody. But the tactics can do a lot. Especially for those who may want replayability. So it's nice only controlling your character and not other classes to make replaying the game as other classes more interesting. I usually set tank to attack nearest, and others to attack enemy with lowest health so they focus fire better.
I love this so far. Having not played, I have no idea what will happen because of your choices. It's very exciting! PS: I too would have immediately benched Morrigan.
FWIW: There is a mod titled Extra Dog Slot which allows the Player to take your pup with the party, if that appeals to you. Also recommend the Respec mod (a must for me), and Bash Lock which allows non-Rogues to open chests at the possible loss of some loot.
hi, haven't completed your 2nd episode, enjoying the reactions and comments so far; came to share my 2 cents (been a while since my last rerun). might be easier/comfortable to use the "rotate camera button" in crowded or small places (lots of corridors), they can be configured to your liking. if i'm not mistaken, defaults are "q,e". seen you struggle with the actions (game can process up to one action per character) "you can pause, queue actions on all your party members and unpause (that includes movement)", also seen you struggle with canceling your commands, if there is a selected objective, your actions will autotrigger (if you click em, you´ll override the last input with the autoattack one "this does not include aoe effects like burning hands". You´ll notice a great diference adding potions on your quickbar, you can also add extra quickbars (the shortcuts are customizable ex: 1, cntrl+1, alt+1). last but not least, you can customize the combat actions for your not controlled membs (that´s the use for one of the skills "combat expertice" [if i recall correctly the name]. that'll allow you to config self healing, priority target on skills and so on)" + extra cent - tab and shift have a function on their own, one will autoselect/rotate enemies from closer to farther and the other one will highlight interactable objects (it can get annoying to look for them manually) hope you enjoy the series and do recommend following the next ones "origins + awakening (kind of an extention/DLC), DE2 and so on (DE2 its similar yet truly different "playstyle wise"), DE inquisition (quite a change on everything) and DE Veilguard (still on my 1st playthrough, trying to decide if it kills the franchise or its all an exageration. i apologice in advance for my english butchering (not my first language) have a great one Edit one: while starting a new run i doble checked the prev. post (corrections; 1 tab will highlight objects, and interactable things. no fast targetting on DAO. 2 cant customize buttons for extra bar slots, no extra bars added, you can extend the bottom bar to full screen size tripling the slots thought. 3 the name of the skill to greater customize the IA its "combat tactics".
In case you're interested, there is also a really cool mod that lets you open (more like break open) chests even with insufficient skill, with a chance to break the contents so it's not as unfair as simply cheating to open those chests. Feel free to disregard this if you feel it's unsportsmanlike, which is also fair ☺
Nice mages are actually pretty decent damage dealers and Healers. They also have a lot of skills that can also give defense buffs to make up for how squishy they are. Also the specializations are just awesome too. Some of them your mage companions can help you get them by getting their approval up. The other two are hidden in the game, one you can get through a side encounter in a questline, the other I can't really say without spoiling a questline as its super specific on how get it.😊
I kind of regret recommending Da. I started playing a character just like yours (mage, elf-even before I knew that was what you chose). I realize playing it again even on normal difficulty is hard. I started getting my ass kicked and I've played it about 4-5 times (though it has been about 5 years since I did). Still even finally getting back into the rythem of things I do die a good bit. The upfront learning curve on this is pretty damn high, especially your first playthrough
There is an extra dog slot mod that lets you bring dog along and three party members, also there is a mod which makes the font bigger. I left some mod recs in the last vid's comment section too, maybe have a look at it after all? All of them are easily searchable through the names provided, and also easy to install. There are tutorials on youtube if you need help with that, but it is mostly just drag and drop the mod into the "override" folder, not more. Some more points: Make sure to ask questions before agreeing to something, you missed a lot of dialogue/banter/additional info this way already with Morrigan and Flemeth at the hut and then with recruiting dog too. All your companions can be talked to outside and inside camp. Use it wisely. Pls for the love of god, buy backpacks to increase your inventory. You missed 2 of those at the vendor at ostagar already. Just check if merchants have some available. In vanilla you can extent your inventory up to 125. Make sure you have EVERYTHING done in Lothering before starting a main quest. Because the threats of darkspawn invading the village aren't just idle talk. So finish up all the quests there before moving on. Do the sulcher pass dlc early, you won't regret it, I promise :D And if you are still allergic to mods, the warden keep dlc will have a storage chest after completing the story there. Otherwise there are mods for that. Morrigan is all harsh talk but has a soft core. She is very tsundere and also a very very multi-faceted well written character with a lot of depth. Try to get to know her and to see things from her pov. This is valid for all the companions here, they are more than meets the eye.
I’m only half way thru this one(also see you doing live MAA stream but work won’t let me sit n watch lol), but lm so curious about.. Who you give the boot out if your party to keep Dog🙀😂 It was a 50-50 between whiny Alistair and the B of the Wilds. Old man me and old man Duncan salute you. Now back to your show:) (I’ll edit this after it’s done ) Edit:episode done , you chose wisely lol Very curious who your main party will be, onto next episode:) (I’m sure by now you know Leilani is a Rogue..time to chest raid 😎
First Half: I am betrayed... BETRAYED! I will hunt down the man responsible to the end of the Earth! Second Half: Doggie makes everything better! Whose the cutest! You are! Yes you are!
I really appreciate that you stuck it out to the end battling that ogre. A lot of people would do a lot of reloading instead of using their items. Well done 🙂
I think you can turn friendly fire on or off in the options(?) The colour of the enemy name denotes how much stronger they are than you. White the same or less, yellow slightly stronger, red much stronger. If you like reading, wait till you get to the Mage's tower...😴 Some people don't seem to realise, the game has one of the party members be the devil's advocate, same as in Mass Effect. They are meant to bring up a point in favour of one of the decisions you have to make, which is why occasionally someone like Garrus will suggests saving the Collector base rather than destroying it, even though seems out of character. Morrigan gets the more brutal responses because she knows nature is harsh and is pragmatic. Hilarious the was Sten complains about people with no manners given his reasons for being in the country and in the cage.
i love how in inquisition the quartermaster was actually a Logain follower that was STILL drinking the kool-aid regarding his betrayal. He's a man who did some VERY wrong things for some perfectly sound reasons. and hey...last i checked, Ferelden is still independant, instead of being incorporated BACK into the empire of Orlais and utterly negating everything he dedicated his life to by it's naieve king marrying the Queen of Orlais. The actions of his second in command, on the other hand, are considerably more petty in motivation.
I mean, I won't argue that his actions after Ostagar are objectively terrible, but if Loghain hadn't betrayed the king all his soldiers would've died too. There was no way they could've won that battle, even Solas says so in DAI
I you've ever played Warhammer you'd understrand why Loghain did what he did. He is actually a very well written character. Unfortunately the writers did not have the balls to go through with him. In the darkness of the far future (past) there is only war....
While Loghain was well-intentioned, his own pride got in the way and amplified his own hatred and paranoia. POTENTIAL MINOR SPOILERS: Later documentation you can come across (both in Origins and other games) shows that he was very much making the wrong choices, and that the very thing he was afraid of would've actually helped both sides out a ton.
He was blinded by his nationalism and hatred of Orlais. That said, I like his motivations for a bad guy character. It's why I love this game. He's not a bad guy because he's generically bad. There's a reason for his actions.
@@ronelz999 What I think he was meant to be (by the writers) is someone who thinks battlefiield victory and political power that maters (Ferelden == Orlais 2.0) while igonoring shear reality. BTW for Basic: Simon Templeman (the voice actor of Loghain) is also Dr. Gawin Arrcher from Overlord in ME2....what an amazing actor.....
Morrigan and Alistair have the most entertaining banter in the series 😂
I would argue Zevran and Wynne (or Zevran with anyone) can give them a run for their money
Pure entertainment value is Morrigan vs dog imo
I almost forgot that Morrigan has beef with the dog as well😂 But I still love her. And she does grow on you. Just give her a chance.
And that’s why it’s best to play as a thief, then the group will have Alistair (Tank), Morrie (mage), your character (thief and Damage Dealer) + someone you wish.
Yepp..I also wihs she goes thoruhg withni9t..Flemeth and Morrigan ARE omsething else :D
"Did he also do what was best for your husband?" THE MIC HAS BEEN DROPPED!! Queen Anora was too stunned to speak.
RIP Peter Renaday, Duncan/No-bark Noonan, one of the best voices in videogames.
He voiced No-Bark? My respect for him just went up 10 times. RIP.
Has nobody told her that the little hand under the character portraits on the top left means that the characters will not follow their tactics, but have to be constantly ordered.
I think they can still do tactics, but they won’t move.
what's funny is that she ended up clicking on the little hand by accident and the party could move freely haha
Flemeth: i know "a bit" of magic. :-) ;-) 🥰
do not give up on morrigan and leave her at camp. she has one of the best character growth out of any rpg i have played . keep in mind she is not used to normal human interaction or understanding
The campfire tune they play when Duncan faces his ending gets me everytime
I just love your approach to gaming. Reminder to all to not take games so seriously and have fun. You kept me chuckling throughout.
Second this
Let's wager on when she figures it out 😂
31:50 Dude Basic is such a good hearted soul 😊 I would never waste an injury kit for a party member called "tower guard" hinting that the guy is not gonna stick around forever.
What are you talking about? He had one of the most memorable romance scenes when the Warden can famously say, "Tonight, I want to guard YOUR tower."
Barkangel is almost as good as Barkspawn
there's a mod that allows your dog to follow you without occupying a character space, someone warn her
Will she ever tell the party to follow her?
“You guys knew, this whole time you guys knew”
We did.

The way she was like "you all knew this would happen" 😆
Oh, same
loghain can catch these hands i swear - and i adore morrigan and alistair’s banter, it is HILARIOUS
I always end up naming my dog bowser. LoL Also Leliana can unlock those pesky chests youre having issues with hint hint nudge nudge.
I enjoy this playthrough a lot, brings back lots of memories, and you're fun, but good god, the pain when you blew past the Taunt skill and gave an archery one to Alistair lol lmao
I'm falling in love with this heap of pixels all over again by watching you play. thank you Basic for taking us along 😭❤
32:20 Seeing anyone watch this battle cutscene for the first time has me 😭😭😭😭😭
1:10:00 Now I wonder if they predicted the text size wouldnt scale with 1080p+ and threw that line in for future gamers
I can't bench my girl Morrigan. I love her too much. And Leliana.
I liked your Mass Effect reference to gathering a team to save the world
I've been waiting to see your reaction to the betrayal and certain people's deaths.
A++++ name!
If you want some more funny party banter, keep Leliana and Morrigan on the team, and Leliana will flirt with Morrigan and make her so uncomfortable.
Even better when Morrigan flirts with Sten. :)
You can bind (by drag and drop) healing potions or spells to the quick access bar.
Morrigan has Mind Blast spell that stuns nearby enemies, and she's funny pissing of Alistar;)
.... the reapers threaten Fereldan, only you can stop them 😛
I think you're getting the hang of it gameplay-wise and we're just now getting into the thick of it story-wise. Leliana is an interesting character and I love that you immediately swapped her for Morrigan despite disagreeing with her approach and doing what Morrigan would have done. Barkangel 😂freakin brilliant. Also…love Morrigan 🥰
Basic mage thinking to her self: why don't my boys what to be anywhere near me. ((sigh)) i wish they would just follow me around.
Basic mage: Boys stand exactly here!!!

the boys: yes ma'am ((they panic run to exactly where she tells them to go))
((after the basic mage is a little bit in front))
solider: i hear the grey wardens wanted her because she ripped some demons in half with her bare hands
tower guard: i am happy she is on our side did you see the knuckle scars
Alistair: well i am not gonna make her mad so i am staaaying right here until she tells me to jump.
love your reactions and playthrough of dragon age
But you do have to do it for each character...I think. xD watching your ogre fight reminds me of why I always have Alister pick up Threaten.
Accidental fisting? I'm not quite sure how it can possibly be accidental. But as always, beware of the taint.
Morrigan and Alistair are the best companions in DAO, and for as pious as Leliana is, she's good too.
Micromanaging every fight is so exhausting. You learned how to set up tactics in the prologue, just let AI do its things, they are perfectly capable of resolving like 95% of fights without your input. Just update tactics occasionally as they get more skills and spells.

I love this so far. Having not played, I have no idea what will happen because of your choices. It's very exciting!
PS: I too would have immediately benched Morrigan.
Morrigan is an incredible character, leaving her at camp is a mistake
@@indigocrayon520 I'm familiar with her character.

hi, haven't completed your 2nd episode, enjoying the reactions and comments so far; came to share my 2 cents (been a while since my last rerun). might be easier/comfortable to use the "rotate camera button" in crowded or small places (lots of corridors), they can be configured to your liking. if i'm not mistaken, defaults are "q,e". seen you struggle with the actions (game can process up to one action per character) "you can pause, queue actions on all your party members and unpause (that includes movement)", also seen you struggle with canceling your commands, if there is a selected objective, your actions will autotrigger (if you click em, you´ll override the last input with the autoattack one "this does not include aoe effects like burning hands". I gonna leave this here… Barkspawn.

Bonjour

Un plaisir.
I’m only half way thru this one(also see you doing live MAA stream but work won’t let me sit n watch lol), but lm so curious about..

Logane is the Kings father-in-law.
I always name the dog Duncan 💀
You’re just like me fr. Benching Morrigan as soon as I was able to. I don’t like a mean girl ruining the vibes of our squad lol

0:12 oh my god, same.
Weren’t you complaining about the king’s army making the dogs the first line of defense? I guess that doesn’t apply when you’re the one in trouble 😉😂
I'm the only one attached to the brave Tower Guard and the bold Soldier?
BARKANGEL omg
Many plays this game with mod that allows the dog to be 5th member of the party 😃
The comments are a Danger Zone if anyone is following along without having played
❤❤❤
I really appreciate that you stuck it out to the end battling that ogre. A lot of people would do a lot of reloading instead of using their items. Well done 🙂
bruh you didn't let morrigan finish her dialogue with dog...
are walking white bear foot this game
Please, pretty please make reaction on Sacred ashes cinematic trailer

They are meant to bring up a point in favour of one of the decisions you have to make, which is why occasionally someone like Garrus will suggests saving the Collector base rather than destroying it, even though seems out of character.
Morrigan gets the more brutal responses because she knows nature is harsh and is pragmatic.
Hilarious the was Sten complains about people with no manners given his reasons for being in the country and in the cage.
More crazy,i thought we full up lmao, honestly,Alistair and Morrigan made this game,if not them, this game would be a really boring
i love how in inquisition the quartermaster was actually a Logain follower that was STILL drinking the kool-aid regarding his betrayal.
I see she is still choosing to keep the AI off. 🙄
for now!
I you've ever played Warhammer you'd understrand why Loghain did what he did. He is actually a very well written character. Unfortunately the writers did not have the balls to go through with him. In the darkness of the far future (past) there is only war....
It was just pure paranoia from Loghain, hes living in the past.
While Loghain was well-intentioned, his own pride got in the way and amplified his own hatred and paranoia. POTENTIAL MINOR SPOILERS:
Later documentation you can come across (both in Origins and other games) shows that he was very much making the wrong choices, and that the very thing he was afraid of would've actually helped both sides out a ton.
He was blinded by his nationalism and hatred of Orlais. That said, I like his motivations for a bad guy character. It's why I love this game. He's not a bad guy because he's generically bad. There's a reason for his actions.
@@JimmyMon666 Yepp. But the writers made him incosistent. I don't want to spoiler it for basic though :o)
Gawin Arrcher from Overlord in ME2....what an amazing actor.....
rip tower guards :(
