This is it man. I've been playing guitar for 13 years and i see allot of videos from people playing very difficult technical stuff. But almost all of them are missing what this guy has in abundance. Soul and class. What he plays isn't necessarily very hard, but it's HOW he plays it. You can't teach that. I'll take this any day of the week over someone playing a hard classical song double tempo on 2 guitars like a robot.

Learn the minor pentatonic shapes, try to understand how it relates to de major pentatonic and then fill the missing notes. It's easy to move into minor and major diatonic scales after you REALLY learn your pentatonic. You can then learn modes, harmonic and melodic minor, hexatonic, etc. But pentatonic is always the first step. When it comes to Der... the hard thing to face is that he's not playing complex stuff, it's just that he's stupidly tasteful... and you can't study that.
