Correction on your #3 item. This IS an audition Jazz Band. All the kids have to audition, and not everybody makes it in. The music program in the North Penn School District is HUGE, with 150+ in the Marching band, 200+ in the chorus, 100+ in the orchestra. All from grades 10, 11, and 12 only. This Middle School Jazz Band is comprised of kids from grades 7, 8, and 9, and is 1 of 3 Middle School Jazz Bands in the district. There are 3 middle schools, each with a Jazz Band.
If you think THIS middle school is good, you guy gotta check out Folsom Middle School and Sutter Middle School. Both from Folsom, CA. You guys are great too though. You'd make a good competition!
This was early in the "jazz competition season". The band became much more polished as the season went on. Don't want to slow it too much though. The tempo on this piece needs to be up and energetic. Thanks for your post, and good luck in your jazz band.
ahh come on you guys have to losen up and have fun with it would sound alot better if yall realy got into the song at our school jazz band is just something we do to have fun and show off a little xD
Why the heck did they put the soprano sax thing in there at the beginning? I don't mean to be rude, but I've played this song quite a few times, lose the soprano sax thing it doesn't fit in with the trumpet thing at the beginning.
I likey, we're playing this song too in our jazz band however, you need to slow it down...sound quality isn't great either...other than that, nice job.
I agree with Baritone, lose the Soprano solo. Would probably be a lil tighter if you guys slowed it down. Overall, really good. I played this tune in HS 15 years ago. I wish I could find a really high quality recording.
Middle school jazz band playing the full version?
Props for not crashing and burning!
not bad for junior high.
our high school band is playing 'brass machine' this year. it's probably my favorite piece this year for jazz 1.
