He and Rolle were stuck up jerks to Jimmy Walker. Jealous and petty of the attention he got. They didn't even speak to him. And it got even worse later. Jimmy being the classy one as well as the only one with actual comedic chops, has always taken the high road in discussing it.

There was tension because John Amos ......WAS THE SHOW...AND he didn't really approve of Jimmy Walkers antics .....it got him fired so i think old memories resurfaced abit
Vince Cozzi no. Esther Rolle was the show. It was a spin off from Maude. The actual idea came from Michael Evans (who played Lionel on The Jefferson’s) as an insight to him growing up. That’s why Ralph Carter’s character is named Michael Evans. John Amos was removed from the show because of creative differences. The same reason Ester was missing the whole 5th season
When the show was out Jimmie Walker was the stand out character. Against the test of time, John Amos is the stand out character. No one talks about J J now, but everyone loves James.
Great seeing most of the cast reunited. RIP Mama Esther Rolle.....you are responsible for having USA, in particular, Black USA, displaying a strong Black father on prime time television. Much respeck!
Good times was an awesome show, it really did loose it's flavor when James left the show, but I still watch the reruns, only the ones with James in them, they were the best ones. This is one show that you can never remake, it won't be the same. Thank you cast of Good times for the memories
This show- Good Times, The Jefferson's, and Sanford & Son were my favorite shows. I really learned how to be sassy while speaking my point of view! lol Happy these shows are shown on stations that air reruns.
I always thought there was a connection between What's Happening & Good Times, but I didn't know this... Then again, I'm not of the age that grew up on these shows, so I have to watch clips on here.
Everybody is speculating about the purpose of the tension, but it has never been a secret. Esther and John understood that the 70’s were crucial for Blacks. Jimmie Walker’s buffoonery did very little to curb the perception white America had about us. Consider that John was the FIRST representation that we had of a Black father on television, and that representation was being muddied by the juvenile antics of a grown, rusty man who did not possess the scruples or courage to stand up to Norman Lear and say, “ I will not degrade myself and my people to boost your ratings and financial assets.” Funny thing is, they soon found out that Jimmie was never the reason for the ratings in the first place; it was the enticement of seeing ourselves represented positively, even through facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles. When James died, the show died. FACTS
Well said. Unfortunately the majority of white audiences can only identify with the ‘Dynomite!’ imagery of black people. Still holds true today...popular black comedians are a recycle of JJ Evans in main stream media. Aside from that fact...I still love what Good Times brought to the table of entertainment.
@@kesm66 that's not true. I am white, and Jimmy was never the reason I watched. I loved Michael's character as well the dad. I also grew up in a poor neighborhood and could really identify with them. My favorite show. It was a show that I could relate to. I was upset when they took James off of the set. What's happening was a show that later came along and captured the single family home. Good times covered a lot of social issues but JJ buffoonery ruined the show in a way and caused the departure of John Amos. Once he was gone it wasn't the same show. The hard working father was the heart of that show in my opinion and once it was gone it just wasn't the same.
Ana Torres that's what the producers wanted!!! Was the JJ buffoonery which caused the breakdown but it did cover the Socal issues and that's what made it so great-
I watched this show when it was on, but barely remember it. I just have flashes of the show, but know I was a fan of it. I even had the JJ hat. I need to catch the reruns.
Interesting listing to Jimmie Walker talk about how little the cast had to do with each other, especially him. You can see how he gets in the pic with as little contact with the others and gets out the same way.....

Was the JJ buffoonery which caused the breakdown but it did cover the Socal issues and that's what made it so great-
JJ looks older James lol
From what I understand he’s not that much younger than Amos! Still, tho!
Only a 8 year difference
He is older than u think... JJ played a younger kid on the show, tho he was much older
This is my favorite show of all time!!!
They look even better now, ageless! God bless them all, they brought me many hours of great entertainment, loved their series.
John amos didn't change at all.
sara Abraham
i know right JJ look older by far
Thelma is still so pretty!! EXCELLENT TV SHOW, I still watch the re-runs!!
Good times was one of the best show . I watch it still to this day on Saturday every episode that comes on . 💞👍
I love every single one of them.
Paved the way for all and never changed...
Thank you for the best childhood memories!
Ralph Carter actually looks like a Supreme Court justice now.
Jimmy Walker said he never even talked to them while the show was a hit in the 70's. The producer said they all hated each other! # Sad
Exactly I watched the archive of American television Jimmy Walker was treated really bad.
Wilona & Thelma is still black beautiful queens....!!!!!
JB : “are” .... 🤦♂️
Joel C lmaoo exactly
Yes. They took care of themselves. RIP Wilona.
Good Times is my all time favorite show . I would love to meet them all . It was great to see them together again .

John Amos looks like he can still play football.
Larry Banks
Dave S Hell fucking yeah John Amos looks better than BOTH Jimmy Walker and Ralph Carter.
it sure is great seeing the cast of good times together again minus one Mrs. Rolle. R.i.p
Judah King Don't forget the Johnny Brown that played Bookman!
Anyone with the catch phrase "dynamite" in todays world, would be on a CIA watch list.

Still my old time favorite shows. I still watcha the reruns when they come on now. I miss FLORIDA still. R.I.P Florida.
I watched this show when it was on, but barely remember it. I just have flashes of the show, but know I was a fan of it. I even had the JJ hat.
I need to catch the reruns.
James look like he’ll still take his belt off n whip yo ass...Real father figure😎
RIP, Esther Roll (Florida Evans)! You will be missed!!

a smack in the gob Lol
a smack in the gob 😂😂😂😂
a smack in the gob 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 You wrong fa dat! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Interesting listing to Jimmie Walker talk about how little the cast had to do with each other, especially him. You can see how he gets in the pic with as little contact with the others and gets out the same way.....
Wow, you all still look great💗 thanks for all of your hard work and effort, the laughs were amazing 😍 y'all were everybody's family lol 💃💖💋
John Amos (which played the father) is the oldest out of all of the cast. But he looks the best of all of them
John Was snubbed. Sad, because he was such an important role model for so many back when he was on GTs.
John Amos was there. That's him on the left side of the frame wearing the hat. Of course Jimmie walker is on the right 😆, pun intended
Of course John Amos looks the best...he was a working actor longer than the rest....people know him for more than Good Times...
He had the best career than all of them without a doubt. John Amos is an excellent actor. Very versatile
Every1 looks MARVELOUS!!!👍🏽👌🏽🤟🏽📽🎥🎬📷📸
Great seeing them looking good together. Thanks for the memories, good times and bad.
Dayum...Thelma still look fly....now bootiliciously fine
I loved John Amos in LETS DO IT AGAIN!!!!!
Me too obviously 😆 Kansas City Mack
One of my favorite show as a child.
Love this show.. Long Time.. Thank you all
Jimmie and John still mad at each other!!!!
How does John Amos look younger than all his costars even though he played the Dad back in the 70s???
lol Yup, he DOES look great!!!!!!!
He was just at 8 years older than JJ
Right!
@@jurnagin And he was almost 20 years younger than Esther Rolle.
@@nassauguy48 yes, but Willona a was supposed to be same age as Florida but she was only 29
DAMN!! Bernadette Stanis is STILL drop dead GORGEOUS!!
RIP John Amos ❤
I grew up watching these folk...Love love love this show..RIGHT NOW TODAY!! ❤
Janet Jackson would have been great to be apart of that and what's up with JJ barely acknowledging Eric Monte. JJ is a jive turkey!
ANKH-RA 999 lol
She’s busy recording her Unbreakable album at that time.
I think it's for the original cast members
