    The nrf24l01 modules are less expensive ,their code supports error checking and they are less power hungry. The disadvantage of course is that Bluetooth is everywhere and you can control it with eg. your smartphone or computer whereas the only way you can control the nrf24l01 is with another nrf24l01.

    • @venkateshe7506
      @venkateshe7506 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The other option is ESP8266 WiFi, but its not as power efficient as NRF24L01+

    • @ttlog
      @ttlog 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Venkatesh E I tried to build remote switches and remote thermometers, so I bought a bunch of nrf24l01 but in hindsight I should have gotten wemos d1 minis or equivalent. The nrf24l01 are a pain to connect to the internet whereas the esp8266 has the TCP/IP stack built-in

    • @wonkastudio-johnny
      @wonkastudio-johnny 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ttlog. are the wemos d1 minis capable of operating in master mode? or is the term for this mode station ?

    • @19trwind82
      @19trwind82 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted to say almost the exact same thing. The range on the nrf23L01 is also better than bluetooth, especially when you have a 'real' antenna connected to it. For RC toys that run outside, I would say the nrf23L01 is superior to Bluetooth. In theory it could go as far as 10 km according to this video: th-cam.com/video/zddC8rQasrg/w-d-xo.html. Great video though, for our bluetooth needs!

    • @ttlog
      @ttlog 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      johnny wonka You don't need master and slave modes. You just need the IP the wemos gets from your router if you are indoor. You can make the esp8266-01 operate in master mode with AT commands. I assume someone has tried it with a wemos. Google is your friend.

    Hey, I love your videos and the information is fantastic. I always look forward to your videos. One comment on the future project for the tank, I would recommend looking into using the ESP8266 and a Access Point (AP) connection for communication -- I think it would be much easier and you will probably get better range. Also, you would get to use a much faster processor of the Wemos D1 Mini.

    The other best option (for short and long range) is HC-11/12. This module communicates on UART and super easy to transfer between two MCU's and it can go upto 1 or 1.5 KM (depends on speed).

    • @Educ8s
      @Educ8s  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I have heard about it. But it is illegal to use it in Greece and in many countries at its full power so the range will be much less.

    Hi, that was a great tutorial and I think I will be using Bluetooth for my Boat Systems monitor. I was going to use the NRF24L01 but when I realise the maximum data packet size was only 32 bytes I realised it would be too difficult for me to implement. I'm needing to send and receive at least double that amount, but only across 3 metres. Do you think the bt protocol is best?

    Why do you want the voltage divider on the RX pin of the arduino? The arduino can receive 5V, can't it? You would want it on the transmit pin because the hc05 needs a 3.3V signal.

    On the LED side of life, you should NOT wire an LED directly to an Arduino output instead using a current limiting resistor. And in the actual sketch, you give up on an external LED and just use the Built-in LED attached to Pin 13. You should have clarified these points.

    • @Educ8s
      @Educ8s  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. If you watch closely I have soldered a current limiting resistor to the one leg of the LED. Yes I could use pin 13.

    • @thorntontarr2894
      @thorntontarr2894 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Educ8s Yes, I do see that in the video but as you didn't describe that current limiting resistor, I worry that new folks may destroy an Nano. And if you notice in your video later, the built-in LED is used anyway so the external LED is not used. Of course, I know you understand this.

    hey educ8s thanks for the video!
    just a quick question, a year ago you reviewed two books one being practical electronics for inventors by simon monk. I'm studying electrical engineering and i have a electronics circuits class next year and i want to get a head start. here's a description of the class "Introduction to electrical circuits and basic circuit elements. Circuit theory, analysis techniques, and introduction to design. DC analysis. First-order inductive and capacitive circuits. Operational amplifiers. Mutual inductance. Introduction to computer-aided design and analysis." would that book be worth my time or the Make: electronics books? or what book would you recommend? thanks.
    oh on a video a while back I suggested using the Microsoft Visual Studio extension called visual micro to program arduino and you said to let you know how it went for me. well i have to say i enjoyed it a lot, it has auto code complete and if you click on one variable you can rename every instance of that variable in the entire code, making things a lot easier, you should give it a try!
    thanks again

    • @Educ8s
      @Educ8s  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello my friend,
      I think that Practical Electronics is not the book you are looking for and I doubt that the Make book series will help you even though I haven't read them. Those books are mainly intended for practical applications. You are going to become an electical enginneer so you need solid theoretical knowledge. Unfortunately since I am a software engineer I can't help you with that.
      Thank for the info about Visual Studio. I will definately give it try! Cheers!

    Is there something the HC-05 module can do that an ESP-32 cannot do? Because, I believe an ESP-32 board is now cheaper than a Nano and an HC-05.

    • @Educ8s
      @Educ8s  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Chrysippus The Esp32 provides bluetooth that's true. But the libraries to make it work are not mature. The libraries for the Arduino Nano on the other hand are very mature and you can build this project in just a couple of hours from scratch. At the cost of the project you also have to add the cost of the time needed. Because time has a cost as well. And if building this project with the old Arduino is 2$ more expensive, I prefer to spend those 2$ than spending a day debugging an immature library. This is just my opinion of course. Cheers!

    • @4.0.4
      @4.0.4 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're absolutely right. Nevermind the bluetooth library, the other libraries (for anything besides bluetooth you might want to do) will be more mature on Arduino than on ESP-32 at this point. Both solutions can really coexist.

  • @thorntontarr2894
    @thorntontarr2894 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nick, I think you have a graphical error and wiring error for the BT Master side. The +5v TX signal form UNO must be dropped to +3.3v for the HC-05 RX signal and you are attempting to use a simple voltage divider. While this is correctly shown at 0:05 time in your video for the Slave, it is shown at 0:10 time in your video for the Master incorrectly and both image files are shown incorrectly. If my understanding of what you are attempting to do, please reply. At risk is a lot of blown HC-05 BT modules unless they are somewhat tolerant of the wiring as shown wherein the 1k resistor limits current enough to save the BT module. YES/NO?

    • @Educ8s
      @Educ8s  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe you are right. I have to rebuild the project to see what's going on.

    • @thorntontarr2894
      @thorntontarr2894 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Educ8s Nick, just look at the schematic drawing for the programming of the HC-05 modules. There you will see the correctly used voltage divider on the RX signal of the module being programmed. And when you compare with the two schematics for the actual projects you will see that the Nano TX signal is placed at the node of the 2k and 1k resistors and the HC-05 RX is connected to the 1k resistor. This should clarify the sketches. And as I said in my comments about the LED, I don't want new folks to get confused or not be successful the first time they try. You do great work for sure.

    What are the pros or cons of Bluetooth vs nrf24l01 module . The nrf I think reach up to 50meters

    • @Educ8s
      @Educ8s  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Bluetooth is easier to use, needs less wires to connect, does not use the SPI which is often used by displays, it works better indoors than the nrf, for example it can transmit through walls easily.On the other hand it has a range of around 10m which lower than the nrf24l01 in ideal conditions.

    • @tserbos2
      @tserbos2 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      educ8s.tv less wires ? Ι thought the nrf uses the i2c protocol so only 3 wires less than the Bluetooth. Can you explain why is better to use Bluetooth indoors ? Its a matter of health from the radio waves that nrf transport ?
      I want to make a wireless remote control for my backyard lights and the door . About 5 buttons . Should I use the Bluetooth or the nrf ? Only the remote it will use batteries.
      Forgive me if I waste your time .
      And 1 more . Is it possible to connect my phones wifi to arduino with the nrf ? It basically transmit wifi waves right?

      The nrf24l01 uses the SPI protocol not the I2C. The Bluetooth has better signal indoors, it does not loose packages even between doors, something that happens with the nrf. If your lights are less than 10meters from your remote, bluetooth is easier and it will work better in my opinion.

      Check the link in the description. I forgot to write the resistor values in the video.
