    The Sea Lion is not being dumb. The boat acts as a barrier and allows the sea lion to use the boat as cover. It makes it hard for the shark to try and catch. You will see the same behavior with seals on seal island (Africa) using the boats as cover. The Sea lion has more stamina and agility then the shark so once the initial attack by the shark fails the shark will most likely not be able to catch the seal.

  • @tinian33
    @tinian33 12 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    That seal wasn't dumb or stupid. Sharks rely on stealth and the element of surprise when hunting seals, because when a seal is aware of the shark's presence they can easily outmaneuver the shark. Seals are 100X more agile than sharks. I've seen footage of seals taunting and biting sharks due to the shark blowing its cover.

    I, too, think it was a Mako shark. The short dorsal fin for one thing. Strange a mako would be that close to shore being they're usually an open ocean species. I scuba dived Catalina Island and did see a large blue shark there cruising at about 50' ft depth ascending from 100' ft. I don't believe it's a juvenile White shark either. Very cool encounter!

    People have no idea how many Mako's cruise close to shore at Catalina. A couple days ago I hooked and fought an approx.
    8 foot 500 lb mako for 1-1/2 hours. Then released it. This was just past the jet ski rental near Descanso Beach, and only a couple hundred feet from shore. I took video so everyone would believe how close they come in when feeding. Great video thanks for sharing.

    small young shark , , but was it five or six gill slits there ??
    i think it was five , !! a MAKO i think , look at snout and very large long pecs . and small sleak area to tail , no distinct white area to bottom of shark , more uniform colouration , big v in tail ,
    probably 8 1/2 to 9 foot long.

      no, neither makos nor whites have 6 gill slits. in CA, only the six gill shark (go figure) has six gill slits, and it lives near the bottom mostly.
      this was most definitely a juvenile white shark. I've seen more than a few.

    Pay more attention to what you're filming. Most of what you were telling us wasn't even on tape.

    Your camera skills need some work. You're telling everyone to look at the sharks 🦈. But, you're not filming the sharks half the time. Kind of annoying.

    Obnoxious when totally clueless people try to video and totally sucking at it cuz they don’t know how to point cam; and then narrate nonsense.
    Definitely a mako. Look at pectoral and dorsal fins.
