      That was the first thing I thought when I read that title lol. Killmonger wanted to conquer the outside world with the Wakandan spy network, T’Challa is using them to preempt attacks on Wakanda. Very different purposes that put Ridley’s interpretation of the character more in line with Priest. Idk what Blerd’s talking about, he knows this is how T’Challa was traditionally written before Coates lol

      Gentle is one of Storm’s closest students and he’s probably one of her confidants on Mars, meaning he has access to a bunch of Krakoan state secrets T’Challa now knows about. He might be the only non-mutant hero that knows about mutant resurrection and their cosmic plans.

    Poor t’challa, and the lack of understanding doesn’t seem like cap. I feel like the way they wrote cap is weird. I feel like he should understand and say, “I understand t’challa I’d hate to see you go, but I understand you a duty to uphold. You’ll always be needed, hopefully we can still count on you when things get tough.” Or maybe I’m thinking about the perfect MCU cap more so.

  • @Vamroc
    @Vamroc 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I think the goal of isolating T'Challa from the Avengers, from Storm, and his other allies outside of Wakanda is so nothing in Black Panther bleeds over into other Marvel titles if you catch what I'm saying because look at all the stuff outside of Wakanda T'Challa has been dragged into... King in Black, War of Realms, The Last Annihilation, and I could go on the inverse is Black Panther then has to take time to address the crossover impact on it's own title. Now Black Panther is free to just ignore everything happening in the greater Marvel universe and focus solely on Wakanda where as before I feel Wakanda was treated more as T'Challa's Air B&B he leased out to the Avengers

    Coates run made it very clear how T’Challa feels about Storm. Just depends on how Marvel carries it from here. It’s the white writers that hate the relationship. Also, both characters are crazy busy, running worlds, empires, leading nations and teams, daily combat, the fallout of other people’s issues, understandably not much time for love there.

    Hope this democracy gets destroyed by the end of the run. Hate this appeal to western styles of government as some noble, lofty goal to be obtained by other nations. Wakanda prospered without modelling the outside world and that's what made it cool and special! I'm actually hoping A LOT of Coates' plotlines get retconned.

      I don't. Why? Because Constitutional Republic or Democracy with a founding document of rights that cannot be violated is the best system of government in the world when properly done and royalty/monarchy is the WORST system in the world full stop that always causes more problems than it solves.

    The cheating isn't because of a romantic reason. Its because of their duty and fealty towards T'Challa. Its the same with the Dora Milaja - they are not allowed to marry or love another, because all of those feelings are to be suppressed, and their life pledged to the Throne.

      That whole democracy shit is not even needed seeing as both the MCU and comics have their own government policitics, the head tribes were voted by the ppl to help wakanda thrive and prosper. And that was T'Challa idea , not to mention the title of king was for everyone due to challenge day. I hate how they're trying to make Wakabda more like western or other democracy around the world. They're better thn that, if they wanted them to have struggles thn focus on black/African problems

      I dont like it either. Its from the coates era and i won't get into the politics of why i don't like his run but i will say this - why does a nation with thousands of years of governing experience, which has lead them to prosperity, decide on implementing a western/foreign system with quite obvious problems.
      This is supposed to be an African country uncolonized. Why do we have to force a westerncentric philosophy and worldview on them. Its frustrating.

    Democracy isn’t inherently western. Egalitarian and representative politics are present across multiple indigenous cultures. Including those across the African continent.
    There’s huge variance in how they can be structured and how decisions are reached (including things like elder counsel, consensus, etc.). My impression of how Wakanda was governed defaulted to the Black Panther making all decisions up until I saw the movie where he looks like he’s got a counsel of Representative tribal leaders which make up Wakanda.
    In Coates’ run of Nation Under our Feet we see him refer to a similar council when receiving consultation on decisions. In considering what this transition from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy, it appears that the formation of parliamentary sectors of government will be established specifically to address and manage domestic issues which have risen and escalated as invasions and crises occur more frequently and incur consequences on a community and individual level for Wakanda citizens, as we saw with the Dora Milajae forming their own guerrilla movement, the Midnight Angels, who were quelling abuse and enslavement which occurred internally as a result of the fallout from so many crises leaving the homeland largely unattended by the singular ruling head of the country.
    In that issue, I believe Coates did an amazing job conveying a story that shows how there’s complexity to these settings and don’t just serve as eye candy. A lot of amazing breakthroughs were had throughout the issue and I feel that this new run is very uncharacteristic of T’challa after all the conversations he had over the past five years of publication and how they seek to look for what works for his people rather than emulating western and imperial powers by making the people subject to the nation.
    Right now, he’s skeptical about the parliament he established. I do feel that a story can be told of him getting used to the idea or struggling to find out what that would entail if they seek to really make it work. However, the nature of his conversation with his former War Dog is kinda disappointing, in that it feels that he doesn’t respect the idea of self governorship for the people who mainly live within Wakanda, which was the whole point of the very last arc that he was on over the past 5 years.
    It’s only the first issue so idk if this will change as the story develops
