- A friend of mine was looking to go to Boardmasters and so I decided to get hime down to try and convert his camper ready for the festival but we only had 48 hours!!

Enjoy your van builds and your chanel very much. Im going to give you the best advice ever, from myself who has been a cabinet maker for over 44 years invest and use a good quility, biscuit jointer there very strong beach joints, fast to make and accurate. If you don't want to waste time clamping the frames then screw the joints tight making certain to avoid the beach biscuit joint as it swells with the PVA glue (use only water base glue or biscuit will not swell properly). Forms the best joint ever and can join any angled joint purfect. Keep up your good work.
Hi Karl, thanks so much for the advice! Funny you should say that as Ben was going through one of his tool boxes and found a biscuit jointer! I remember using one back in my school days so I'm sure it will be featured very soon!
Love the front L shaped bed design, i want to do this in mine when i eventually come back to the UK, Ever since I sold my motorhome i've been wanting to build something like that!
They are really fun to build!

Sometimes wood is sold with the dimensions of the wood when it was rough cut, I.e before it was planed smooth! Bizarre I know..

One Q, how /what would be the best way to add the ability to lift the top up so you can access the storage area from above?
Also, would wooden dowels help to stop the slats moving around or would that creat to much friction?

Thanks Edward, where would you be using the wooden dowels?
To hinge the top you would need to build the main frame then make a rectangle frame to sit on top and hinge this on the main frame. To this hinged rectangle frame you attach the non moving slats. You can then add the sliding out part in the same way as this video and then this should allow you to access from the top when the bed is in sofa mode.

Awesome design and great, easy to follow video mate. Was just wondering how the kitchen unit situation that you mentioned was going to be built at the back of the van turned out? Just started a t4 conversion and looking for layout inspiration - would it just be a unit at the same height and width of the bed with draws that pull out...?
Yeah Luke hasn't done any more to the van, but yes a long drawer that would come out with the cooker in it

Hey Mollie, we used some cls timber 63mm x 38mm but you could also use 44x44mm timber for a cleaner look

Hi Hugh, I have a caddy and currently converting. Can I ask where did you get the magnetic curtains from? They’re brilliant and in need of some! Cheers.
the owner made them himself, grab some blackout blind material and some small but strong
magnets. cut out the material to the shape of your window but add a 50mm extra around the edge. Then using a glue, he used a glue gun, just stick the magnets around edge but spaced out and then glue and fold over excess edge to hide magnets
Haha yes my good friend Luke, awesome personal trainer he helped me get into amazing shape in just 12 weeks. You should see the before and after photos you won’t believe it. Luke has an incredible physique, no one will be looking at his van they will be too busy looking at his abs 😆👍🏼

How do you secure the slat bed to the van? Are you screwing it into the floor or just to the side panels? Building one for my t5 atm and not sure of the best way!
Both, you can use L brackets or just try pocket holes

How did you make this so the sliding out section doesn't tip down as you pull it out, currently having these problems myself, please help?

@@HughTube on another note, I have often wondered why no one has used the drawer slides the full pull out variety to mount the opposite side of slats. A box frame inside another box frame. Two castors resting on the floor, to help support weight. It will keep it square, and give a platform to store rig underneath. The billy bonus would be limited friction from the slats dragging over the over slats. hmm.
Rust caused by condensation behind cladding?
No the rust was in the wheel arch and floor where there wasn't any cladding
