About Drunk History:
Based on the popular web series, Drunk History is the liquored-up narration of our nation's history. Host Derek Waters, along with an ever-changing cast of actors and comedians, travels across the country to present the rich tales that every city in this land has to offer. Booze helps bring out the truth. It's just that sometimes the truth is a little incoherent.

"Do you like hamburgers?"
"Are you questioning my loyalty right now?"
Well if you dont like hamburgers I gotta take you to the internment camp because of political reasons and stupidity!
mang we('minorities')cant sleep for a second
No I’m just asking if you like hamburgers
It's funny because Hamburg is in Germany lmao
@@DocJamesH he said hamburgers not Hamburg.
the 'survey' is trying to prove you love American items.... like hamburgers.. perhaps apple pie would have been a better item

1947: completely white hair
Those 2 years must have been hard on poor old Frankie
Imagine 400 years.

Oh, ok, I remembered now, you mean that prank where Jim is Asian
How was I never taught this in any of the history classes I've ever been in? They never told us the government was trying to draft people who they decided to treat like animals. I really wish more would be taught about people like frank
There are a lot of dark moments in History that aren’t usually taught in schools. Not sure of the reasons, but I’ve got two explanations: 1. There’s only so much time in a semester so you can’t hit everything 2. No country wants to own up to the horrible shit they’ve done so the “history” taught is government propaganda to think there country is the greatest thing since sliced bread 3. Kid’s can’t handle tragedy well so let’s not teach it. That being said there are tons of books on history, so you can always learn on your own. Two suggestions: 1. Satan’s Circus, a book about the first cop to ever be given a death sentence 2. Killers of the Flower Moon; the Osage tribe where once the richest people in the world due to oil. They end up suffering a strange series of murder, triggering an FBI fascinating. The world has roughly 6000 years of documented human history, and half the fun of studying it is hunting for it on your own. Make sure you check the sources used by the authors; it can give you possible ideas for new things to read and let you know how reliable the authors info is (everyone is trying to sell you a narrative and historians are no exception).
They wouldn't pay animals fair wages for different kinds of optional jobs. Japanese spies were a thing, btw.
You know how many millions of whites have died in all our wars? It's not like just minorities go and fight.
@@Scrapla1 Yes, but the very fact that you respond to any mention of non-white conscription by telling everyone what they absolutely already know does show you see racial minorities fighting wars as a threat
I just hate the anti white rhetoric I see from a lot on the left. You can barley listen to anyone on that side now without the "straight white male" lecture. The main threat I feel are those self loathing white liberals.
*Hey everyone this is... Errr... The radio*

Oh shoot, this just got serious! 😨

The Make-Up talking mouth in the radio was awesome.

most of the American's with Japanese heritage who did go into the military where sent to the 442nd Infantry regiment. This army unit at the end of the war was one of the most decorated units of the war. Many of them died to prove their loyalty to a country that had basically denied them their rights, and citizenship, and had placed their families in concentration camps. It took 43 years before the US government officially apologized for what it had done to it's citizens.
The principles of Confucianism showing through their actions.
@@illustryfe5354 Confucianism? it's more Confusingafism.
@@thangnguyen02 Different cultures view stuff differently. You'd never hear about this in an asian country because the simple story would be that the king/emperor doubted the loyalty of his subjects and imprisoned some as a test. His subjects of (insert clan, tribe, cast, nationality), proved themselves and thus passed the test. It all worked out. If no one volunteered to fight then society would judge them as having been disloyal after all.
American internment camps while horrible in that they remove american citizens constitutionally protected rights, were and are not the same as concentration camps. At no point was a government policy of extermination nor forced labor imposed. The US government self corrected and apologized in only 43 years. That says something about the American system, people and government vs many other nations that will never apologize or outright ban discussion of ACTUAL GENOCIDE, like Turkey when it comes to the Armenian genocide or what China is doing to its muslim population as well as dissidents.
The fact that this is familiar to us black folks speaks incredible volumes. -____-

I looked up Grant Imahara to see how he was doing nowadays after seeing him in this video. Can't believe he passed away today :( RIP Grant
He was so young too. 49!?! Maybe this bothers me because I'm 44 and the idea that one can be relatively healthy and boom, die.
I knew he had passed away and seeing him in this video made me cry. He was a gentle soul and a standup human being. RIP Grant Imahara

Funny and amazing all at the same time
I personally knew Mr. Emi in his last years of his life, and he was truly a kind man. It was after his passing I learned of his activities and achievements during the camps. Currently learning about my great grandfather's history in camp and prison and our history is truly fascinating and complicated
The US government had some nerve trying to draft people they stuck in internment camps.
Thank FDR and the Democratic party my dude.
Jim Johnson shut up the Soviet Union is the greates.
LOL you realize all the racist democrats switched parties in the 60s right?
BudduredToast I dont think so in all honesty the draft makes a lot of sense if you ask me, I mean if you want to live in this cou try you need to be willing to defend it
Tesseract 14 That's an interesting way of looking at it. There's something that makes me uneasy about a government that doesn't extend the same rights to you, treats you like a 2nd class citizen etc expecting you to lay down you life for those values.
Anyway, I'm not a fan of any kind of draft so that's a big part of it for me.
#1: the timing on this, eek! #2: Randall Park is charismatic as hell-please have him on again- he did voices!
@Bryzz Lull you think and stop spreading propaganda. It is the same - Nazism started by separating the "unworthy" from the general population. Just look at the term they use instead of concentration camp - "extra judicial detention". Outside of the law - sounds real legit!🙄
"Do you like Hamburgers?"
"Are you questioning my loyalty?"
LOL
NO, cheeseburgers if given the choice lol lol lol
Sounds like the Vegan Interrogation of America :3
"18 months in prison"
*comes out with white hair*
That's probably how bad it was :P
He served 4 years - 18 months of which were in prison. So, when he got out after 4 years of obscene amounts of stress and anxiety surrounding his entire race and culture and person, he probably got some grey hairs lol.
@@pangolothian I think it's he was sentenced 4 years but, only did 18 months because the war ended.
Stress 😂😂
What’s funniest is that the real Frank Emi’s hair never turned white
RIP Grant Imahara. A lovely cameo in this and a lifetime of making science and engineering cool.

Dear god the timing of this one
Right?
SpookyRoseV reminder that the Japanese were citizens. L E G A L immigration. You don't get to cut in line because your country is a _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. Fill in the blanks :)
Ryan Chang applying for asylum is legal, even after you get into the country. Also, you don’t automatically lose all humanity when you are charged with a crime. You can’t treat prisoners however you want.
We've done nothing wrong to them. If you go to prison, you get separated from your children whether you are a citizen or not. They are treated in a humane manner. We feed them three meals a day, all on the tax payer's dime, and all for the hard work of illegally entering our nation and breaking our laws. They could have very well stopped in Mexico for asylum. They would integrate even better there, but something tells me the relative lack of taxpayer funded rewards there is a driving factor of why they choose to brave thousands of miles to break in here.
Yeah the lack of handouts, or maybe the lack of work and safety and the many people (cartels and the government) that want to kidnap and/or shoot them.
The Japenese Internment camps will forevermore be an embarrassing part of U.S. history. Out of fear and suspicion people were forcefully pulled from their homes and placed in camps that were crappy and overcrowded. They could not leave and were basically treated like criminals with guards stationed to keep them from leaving and when it was all over and they could go home people lost their properties as the properties had been taken while they were gone.
Basically nothing, they were prisoners. They were frequently held at gunpoint.
Don't forget this didn't happen to Italian americans or German americans.
Which part isn't embarrassing?
@@jorisspeelberg1234 Yeah... Charles Lindbergh may have had an iron cross, but nobody put him in a camp.
Oh but wait it happened to blacks since the beginning
RIP Grant. Rewatching this after it was the last video I saw of him before he passed.
My great grandma was in an internment camp. To this day she wishes that she hadn’t worked so hard to stay in shape while she was in one because she’s currently 95, exhausted, and hospitalized with COVID-19.

pixel girl ha! I guess I trolled myself
I love that the white guy who is listening always is plastered too! His reactions and how “no, dude, you’re cool” when someone is too gone. This guy rocks.
He stated in an interview that he drinks what his guest drink so that they don't feel awkward or like they are doing it alone.
You explain history better than my teachers 😂
KillerFlame1945 Your teachers need to show up drunk then
Stephen Raj Lamo 😂
zztop3000 It's not enacted. There's stuff people do and say on this show that they couldn't make up if they wanted to. I'm pretty sure they're really drunk
Off topic, but nice pfp
KillerFlame1945 or more incorrect than your teachers?
I just realized the guy who does doing the narrating is the FBI agent from Ant-Man and the Wasp
Randal Park does his fair share of cinematic work too, he's done fresh off the boat since 2015, and the Netflix romantic comedy you'll always be my maybe
Frank Inouye is Grant Imahara from mythbuster.. in case you didn't see that.
No, can't you see it's Jim from the office.
Ye, many of the drunk narrators and people cast for the acting parts are famous actors and other known personalities. ^^
And now WandaVision, too.
Thank you for all the laughs and the science, Grant! ❤️
3:31 _”are you questioning my loyalty?”_ dead. 🤣😂🤣😂
That they wanted to draft from among the very people they decided were too dangerous to have freedom of movement makes no damn sense.
Not really. The justification wasn't that all Japanese were spies or saboteurs, but that some might be.
I'm actually part Japanese and I had family who served in the American army.
There were people opposite of Frank Emi who wanted to prove their patriotism and fought to be part of the military. Look up the 442nd battalion
Nanette Nette yeah my grandpa joined for that reason. I disagree with him, I would’ve been like “fuck that” but it was a different time and a crazy scenario.
Cameron Mitchell I would want to join
the detail on the radio makeup to make it look like a speaker is awesome
I was very fortunate to interview Mr. Emi for a college paper pack in the early 90's
RIP Grant Imahara. You will be missed.

GRANT IMAHARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mythbusters for life
Canada interned japanese-canadians until 1949. let that Math sync in. yea, canaduh.
Not surprising. Untill till the early 80s, the amount of European blood/heritage was a criteria taken for processing immigration applications for Canada.
Canada was still sterilizing Native Women without their consent or knowledge when they went in for medical procedures in Saskatchewan. That just came to light a few years ago.

a korean man telling the story of a japanese man? would you look at that
And look up Randall Park, who had a master's degree in Asian American studies. That and the fact that Koreans were colonised by Japan and therefore considered Japanese during WW2 gives Park credentials to talk about this!
He’s an American telling the story of other Americans.
When we lived in Monterey, CA, it so depressed me to see those camp setups. I can't believe that would happen, but I shouldn't be surprised, should I?
