I went looking for Macallan Sherry Cask but it is out of stock in all the liquor store I've checked in my area (Houston , TX). As a matter of fact almost all of the Macallan single malts are in very short supply. So I picked up a bottle of Grendronach 12 and and was pleasantly surprised. It is just delicious. Smooth flavor and nice finish.
As you probably saw in the video I couldn't agree more ... lol ... Glad you were able to try Glendronach and enjoyed it Douglas. Cheers! ... and thanks for your comment.
I’m pretty similar …. There so many whiskies to try that I have tend to try something new before rebuying…. Not sure if the Macallan will be a rebuy for me soon, but it is pretty damn good …. The Glendronach 12 will always be on my shelf. Thanks for sharing Ernest!! … cheers!
I enjoyed your review very much, felt more like a conversation. Well done! I have yet to open my Macallan, but will soon. Goodness prices have gone up since this review! But I always say, there is a whisky out there for every person, every mood, every occasion. They all have something to offer. However, I do adore GlenDronach 12, very very much. It's glorious and fits my personality. I keep 3 to 6 bottles on hand at all times. GlenDronach 12 is $66 around Maryland. I'd buy it by the case if I could find that many! Cheers and thanks for the great information.
Thanks Charles! …. I know, every time I look at the prices they seem to go up another $10 …. $66 I think is fair for the gd 12 … I think it’s roughly the same here … although I haven’t checked in an hour so it might be $100 .. lol … cheers!
Great review and love you compared the two. I've had the McCallan I'm inclined to buy a bottle of GlenDronach it sounds more up my alley. Great video, 😎😜😏
I enjoy the Glendronach 12 more than the Macallan 12 as well. The Macallan 12 sherry cask has a very short finish. Overpriced for what it is as we all know.
You are right .... it does seem a little weak on the finish. I just got a couple samples of Glendronach 18 & 21 ... can't wait to try those... Thanks for the comment and checking out the video!
The Macallan 12 Sherry Oak we get here in Brazil (and in the UK too if I'm not mistaken) is only 40%. This makes the difference between the 2 stand out even more. I love my Macallan, but the GlenDronach 12 is the superior dram.
I agree Bruno …. I don’t know that I would buy it personally at 40% abv…. I feel like there are so many other good bottles for much less money. Cheers!
Hey Royal MC! …. Probably has something to do with it. It’s Definitely a nice dram …. They have done a good job making it very appealing to the masses while also holding enough intrigue for the slightly more experienced. Cheers!
I don't claim to be very knowledgeable, but I am wondering how the glenmorangie lasanta, or (better, if port cask is even allowed to be compared to sherry) the quinta ruban would do in comparison. There's a lot of bang for the buck in those two imho. Greetings from Germany.
Good suggestion Anton …. I did a comparison video of all the standard glenmorangie awhile back and remember liking the Quinta Ruben a lot … I probably need to get a full bottle soon …. Add one more to the list :-)
@@TheJulebrusHorror I have had a few bottles of it … I do like it. In fact I just got another bottle recently. I am planning on doing a “port cask” finish comparison between three different bottles …. From cheap to expensive … keep an eye out for that in the next few weeks. Cheers Nephi!
Tried Macallan 12 at a bar, glad I didn't waste my money on a whole bottle. Pretty standard and plain scotch, not worth 62 eur. Glen Moray Sherry expression, although non-age statement, is far more enjoyable for 1/3 of a price in my opinion for sherry lovers. Usually sherry-bomb is referred to a cask strength, tho not always. I'd make one exception for sure, it's a Finnish whiskey Teerenpeli Kaski only 43% ABV. I never had any even cask strength with such a rich flavor. Perhaps only Kavalan Sherry Oak can match it. I see from the comments that my intuition was right, Macallan seems to be over-hyped for what it is for some reason. I'll still try a few higher end bottles to see if they have anything outstanding, but I don't have high expectations. Tho any Glendronach, any day, baby 😁
You are right, I think the general consensus is that it’s a little overpriced…. I have not tried the glen moray, I need to pick up a bottle as it’s very reasonably priced. That Finnish whisky sounds very interesting…. Cheers!
The Glenlivet 18 is more than twice the price of GD 12 around me. Against the GD 18 would more aligned age and price wise, but the GD 18 is far more sherry forward I think. I think owning all three bottles is the right answer :-) ... Cheers Alexander!
@@happyhourwhiskeyInteresting with price differences between countries! In Sweden, there is only like a 20 dollar difference between these two 😳 thanks for sharing your view 👍 ! Have a good one!

Good review, I dislike the premium that is put on this bottle, it is a good well made whiskey however its a slightly frustrating one for me as I love sherry cask aged whiskey but just can't get on with it. The glendronach on the other hand is my go to reasonably priced 12yr.
Thanks Sam! … I agree, Macallan is a bit of a frustrating brand. Glendronach 12 is still at the top of my list for 12 yr sherry cask, although I just bought a bottle of Edradour 10 and holy crap …. Talk about sherry bomb :-)
