    Fun Gil fact: He has another weapon named after a Sumerian deity. The bow of the end, Enki. I believe his prototype counterpart actually uses it but it's an extremely powerful NP that can be a bow, twin swords or tonfas depending on what configuration he deploys them with. But for maximum devastation, it summons floods, but it needs to be deployed for seven days, after those seven days the flood turns into the surge of Utnapishtim. Just an interesting thing I found while doing extra research on Gilgamesh.

    Holmes's NP isn't related to him being smart, it's related to his Origin of "Eludiation", that's the tendency to uncover and unravel all secret and *Mystery* of the world, converting hidden fact to absolute truth. He was so good at this, that were he is at his best class of Caster, he would automatically unravel and dispell all the Mystery of the world, and heavily jeopardize the structure of the world itself. It make sense that he wouldn't be weak to Enuma Elish, because his very own nature itself can see through to the origin of the world, and is the testament of the human spirit of curiosity and discovery, and lighting out the darkness of the vast world around.

    As a side note, Weak to Enuma Elish isn’t actually a gameplay trait. Gil’s NP is programmed to do the bonus damage to every Servant and instead the game has a trait coded for Servants who aren’t weak to Enuma Elish. You can see this in pretty much every enemy not actually having the trait

    Another important thing to note: ignoring the aliens, none of the Servants with the Star attribute are gods or demigods. The Star attribute is for those who have changed the course of human history, but only through human means (whether or not they actually existed or later became defied as a god/immortal). Because when you think about it, Gil himself in Fate lore changed the course of human history more than practically anyone else, due to him cementing the downfall of the age of gods. But he has the Sky attribute, because he is divine. (Though interestingly Casgil has the Man attribute, possibly as a reference to him sealing away Ea and rejecting his more heroic form in order to be a leader of men and a good king).

      Not to mention that their Noble Phantasms are not those that came from Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon. Uomo Universale is originally an all-purpose, reflective type NP born from Da Vinci being the Universal Man who can do anything. Holmes' NP is liteally his ability to uncover all truths. System Keraunos is the sublimation of Tesla's works and deeds during his life.
      In short, their NPs are from their legends which are not objects nor abilities from their stories. It's their self amalgamation kind of thingy.

      @@Zyleace Of course he doesn't have those, those are to abilities of the Heroic Spirit that turned into an NP, but really Gil have many weapon he doesn't have in his GoB, especially in the Arthurian legend. He doesn't even have Vashavi Shakti cause it was not use in the epic.

    • @1che3mau
      @1che3mau ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Caster Gilgamesh has the Man attribute because it's the point in his life where he truly became a wise king of men, rather than a hero of legend. He is closer to humans than he was in his youth, and leads them with care, rather than being the larger than life hero to be idolized and held above men, like his Archer incarnation.
      It doesn't have anything to do with him having less treasure in his vault, as that was only a thing during the Seventh Singularity, where he's actually alive and not a Servant yet. As a Servant, he technically has full access of the Gate of Babylon again, same as his Archer self as there isn't more than one, they're pulling from the same vault. He is simply more conscientious about his usage, unlike his Archer self who goes about firing his treasures with abandon.

      Gil did change the course of human history but not because of the downfall of the Age of God. That blood on the White Titan's white hand.

    Isn't Enuma Elish said to "reveal the truth about genesis, and the world before creation"? So I think servants like Holmes(because of his intellect) and Oberon and Castoria with their Fae eyes that see the truth aren't weak to Enuma Elish because the already know "the Truth". Its revealed that Caster Artoria true nature is the new "Holy Sword born from the Planet", because of that I think that's explain it. For Oberon-Vortigern is really complicated, as he is Incarnation of Britain's Will but unlike PHH Vortigern, Instead its not even a real Britain at the first place (because LB6 Britain made from Cernunnos Corpse & Countless body of Dead Fairy).
      For Holmes I think that's related to his Alien God Apostle status and like the other Apostle, looks like he is also made from composite of Deities/beings. My bet one of his composite parts is responsible for making him not vulnerable to Enuma Elish. But even after 6.5 end, his other components aren't revealed yet.

      The thing is, Castoria and Oberon are basically terminals for Gaia. That sword is meant to *predate* Gaia. It's something utterly alien to this world and its laws and enforces its own upon it by force the same way something like Type-Venus does. Which is why it tears down reality marbles. It reveals the truth of the world beyond the textures of Gaia and Alaya in basically the same way Slash Emperor reveals the real color of the sky in notes - by cutting through it.

      It’s the same in other Fate world lines; the Velber have invaded the Earth twice and wiped out all civilization, the second time being when the Greek gods got killed.
      The Extraverse only differs in that Mystery had weakened so much that magecraft was no longer possible. I dunno when this was, but it should be relatively “recent” in the timeline of human history. When magecraft became obsolete, the Moon Cell came and replaced Mystery with its cyberhacking stuff.

    With Sherlock it might have something to do with his origin, the thing in the nasuverse where basically it influences you in your everyday life. Sherlock’s is Elucidation, which means to see through things clearly. Finding the truth. And since Enuma Elish is a weapon that basically strips the world of it’s “Facade” and makes it see the “Truth”. And since Sherlock’s entire thing is about finding the truth, and his origin is about seeing things clearly, he doesn’t have that weak to Enuma Elish trait. That is my theory.

    Note: Gil can only copy and use physical noble phantasms, he can't copy conceptual or skill based ones. Also worth noting, he isn't necessarily skilled in their use, for example, well he might have the exact same Gae Bolg as Cu, he doesn't have the same training with it. That's that's why you always see him just throwing them out of the gate of Babylon instead of fighting with them properly.
    Edit: also I'm pretty sure that Enuma Elish is tied to Ea not gate of Babylon considering that Gil's child form uses the gate as his Noble Phantasm and it doesn't apply weak to Enuma Elish.

      It's not a matter of whether the NP is physical, but more whether it was actually possessed by the Heroic Spirit in life, or something they got as they became Heroic Spirits, their legend taking form afterwards. Which explains why the likes of God Hand and Legend of Dracula aren't stored in GoB, because the Heroic Spirit didn't have it in life, rather it is the cristallisation of that very life.

      Gil isnt a master of any perticular weapon no, but he is far from being bad at using them in hand, this is proven by the fact that he not only was able to duel saber in the original VN, but that he also literally knocked her down on her knees with just the use of 2 of his weapons in hand.

    Thank you again for another video on explaining unique concepts within the Fate, Mr. Klidge.
    By the way, I believe the reason that Romulus=Quirinus and Saber Altera are more easily affected by Enuma Elish than their counter versions is because they're more in tune with their Godly divinity.
    Gilgamesh, as you have stated in this video, is able to take down the most gods because of his ability to not only use their weapons and Noble phantasms but also cataract them. As such, it's reasonable to believe that he is able to counteract most Gods' abilities and the concepts that they invoke.
    Romulus=Quirinus is the form that great founder of Rome would have if he had fully embraced his Divine bloodline that he inherited from his war god father. Whereas Lancer Romulus is human side of him that founded the great Empire Rome without using any ounce of divine blood.
    As such, the side of him that fully embraces his divine lineage from his war god daddy is what makes him more vulnerable to Enuma Elish as it puts them in the realm of godhood.
    As for Saber Altera, she's literally the embodiment of destruction, the Ender of civilization. Due to this fact, one could say she embodies the concept of war and destruction, which would earn her the title of a god. As for why her Santa form makes her an exception, it is because in her Santa form she is not the bringer of Destruction but the messenger of joy and gift. Santa Claus is not a warrior but a bringer of joy and happiness. As such, it's unlikely that Gilgamesh would have any type of weapon that would be associated with Saint Nicholas inside his vault.
    Also out of all the other Santa servant, Santa Altera uses a weapon that is not from this Earth or the realm of the Gods. Her weapon comes from the Stars. Therefore, it would be out of Gilgamesh's range and he would not have a copy of said weapon inside his treasure vault.
    Anyway, these are just my hypothesis. I could be wrong.
    Anyway thank you for another great video. If by any chance you're looking for another topic to make a Content video of, can you do one on Mystic Eyes and how one obtains some outside of inheriting them? Pretty please.
    Also take care and good luck with your job.

    so as i understand it the three oddballs would probably be as following:
    -melusine: her noble phantasm hollow heart albion: known by no one; innocent heartbeat at least to some extent is her using a hole to a different dimension as well as the fact her body would technically be the land of britain not an item or ability to be used in the main timeline
    -castoria: her noble phantasm is he mental space made manifest by way similar to a reality marble but its fully formed into reality instead of in a pocket space or its also the fact that in some form she becomes part or a proxy form of the counter force
    -oberon: his is really weird for both as its either his first np which takes the individual outside the realm of the waking and into the dream worlds where they cant interact with the waking world or its his 3rd np where he is just straight up a black hole

    My guess as to why Sherlock Holmes isn't weak to Enuma Elish is because Ea is supposedly incomprehensible by design (think back to Shirou unable to trace it at all), which means comprehending it is kind of like a really elaborate mind puzzle. But Holmes, being history's greatest detective, is able to figure out what makes Ea tick. He comprehends it, it's not an enigms to him like it is to most.
    Also as to why Romulus isn't weak but Romulus-Quirinus is because RQ is fused with a god and Romulus isn't, and Gilgamesh striking any gods with Ea is a loud delcaration of the gods no longer having use in humanity. Romulus fusing with Quirinus is like a step back to Enuma Elish's symbol of breaking away from the gods. It's like striking at the very conception of allying with the gods.

      He is a unique existence. One created by both gods and humans to guide humanity on the proper path as the Keystone of Heaven during the end of the Age of Gods when the gods were preparing to depart to the reverse side of the world. He is one who is two-thirds god and one-third human, which is something only he can claim because the gods can't do math apparently, so he sees himself as a more complete existence than those who came before and after due to his unique trait to see the world as both a mortal like those he was entrusted to preside over and a divinity like those who gave him this task.
      Or he just has a massive ego from being raised with the expectation that he would be king. "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" and all that.

    There’s a pretty good reason why Romulus=Quirinus (Quirinus) is weak to Enuma Elish and normal Romulus is not. Simply put, the two versions embody two different concepts. Normal Romulus embodies the nation-building aspect of Rome and the foundations of all Western civilizations, both culminating in his NP Magna Voluisse. Quirinus, on the other hand embodies humanity’s determination and potential to reach beyond the stars, symbolized by Rome. Quirinus says that he lacks the spear of nation-building his counterpart has because he himself does not embody Roman civilization but rather the potential of human civilization using Rome as a proxy for that ideal. Quirinus does not embody the king that paved a new path for humanity. Rather, he is the symbol of humanity tearing their own path through hardship and into the stars.

      I guess it is because for Kojiro, his technique uses a sword as part of the attack, one that could have had a prototype in Gilgamesh's vault.
      As for Li Shuwen, his martial art of Bajiquan is sometimes practiced by learning spear drills as apparently the movements of the style are inspired by spear combat. Considering his younger version uses a spear, one that could have had its prototype in the vault, Gilgamesh could see the fighting style and see its similarities to spear combat. This is merely hypothetical though as if you actually see Bajiquan in an MMA situation it more or less looks like Sanda or kickboxing rather than mimicking the movements of a spear.

    I think the 3 fae have it for a different reason. They are all “false” to some degree. Oberon most straight forward is a pretender who was thought to be a ruler, mulusine has the ability to switch between vastly different noble phantasms at will, and castoria isn’t actually Artoria but that’s spoilers. In that sense Sherlock also fits into this because spoilers. So maybe the ability to present a false version of yourself or noble phantasm prevents gil from properly countering it

    I still have so many questions…
    You pointed out that Da Vinci (Caster) should not be “weak to Ea” because she invented her NP, what about Odysseus who invented to Trojan horse?
    Gil doesn’t have (proto-)Divine Constructs in the gate, right, then Achilles & Artoria (All) should also be exempt, Right?
    What about medea, who’s rule breaker is a manifestation of her being the “Witch of Betrayal” and wasn’t something she had in life?
    Or Circe & Emyia (assassin) who’s NP are straight up personal Magecraft?
    What about body augmentation NP’s like Berserker Lansalot & Heracles
    Or weapon techniques, like Izo, Okita, Regend, and Herc (again)
    There are so many servants who just don’t have weapon based NP’s that Gil shouldn’t have and therefor shouldn’t be “Weak to Ea”.

    • @Cliffy1616
      @Cliffy1616 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Judge Alan
      According to the FGO Babylonia Anime. Gil does appear to have his own version or Medea’s Rule Breaker. As he hands a wonky looking Dagger to Ritsuka which from memory he uses to stab Tiamat.
      Now it’s not directly stated to be a proto Rule breaker and it is anime only. But it does have rule breakers general shape.
      Rule breaker started out as a ceremonial dagger that as you said got it’s abilities due to Medea’s history and life.
      So in theory Gil COULD have a similar ceremonial dagger with any properties that it naturally possessed. And Medea’s would be a slightly different version, making Gil’s the “prototype”.
      But as you said Medea’s rule breaker got it’s abilities because it apparently “conceptualises her life as the witch Medea”. So it wouldn’t make sense for Gil’s version to have the same abilities.
      Yet it appeared to have just that based on what’s shown in the anime, which doesn’t really make sense.
      Or again Gil having that dagger is anime only and so could be just “non-canon” nonsense implemented by those who adapted the anime and didn’t realise that he shouldn’t have it and if he does it shouldn’t have the same effects.

    Ea, or Enki, was Gilgamesh's personal patron god as depicted in the Epic of Gilgamesh. It's a part of a running theme of Gilgamesh naming his most powerful armaments after those he respects. The other two being Merodach (Named after Marduk) - the sword that serves as the basis of all Holy Swords of Selection - and the chains of heaven Enkidu. Ea I'm 90% sure is the reason why Gilgamesh is Archer. Gil-Prototype wields the early concept of the weapon in the form of Enki, a world destroying bow that brings about the flood that wiped away humanity. But even further back in its inspiration, in the Enuma Elish the weapon used to split Tiamat's body whose halves would be used to fashion Heaven and Earth was the bow of Marduk. Gilgamesh gives a little reenactment of this feat in Babylonia. Using Ea to give the killing blow to Tiamat.

    Iirc typemoon/nasu has mentioned the main difference between tsukihime and fate and the reason servants arent normally summonable in the tsukihime timeline is because the human order is weaker there. Servants dont have enough belief to have the kinda power they do in fate. Assuming KnK is similar to Tsukihime, Gil not being effective against them makes sense because the fabric of their reality doesnt support him as much as it does in his home turf.

    The form and function of Divine spirits is based off of human desire combined with the aspects of the natural world which those spirits represent. Thus their nature is still based off of the textures of this reality, making them susceptible to Enuma Elish. I imagine that the Greek Gods, in their original mecha bodies were not affected by Enuma Elish, but after they lost their bodies and became divine spirits, then their nature became based on the textures of this reality.
    Abigail Williams is likely a reverse case, where her initial nature was as a human girl, until she eventually transcended this nature and became an eldritch entity. If we were to meet her when she was fully transformed into Yog Sothoth, she would likely not be weak to Enuma Elish, but since the version we know is based on the form of a human girl from history, then her nature isn't sufficiently different enough to transcend reality's textures.
    The Garden of Sinners and LB6 ones are weird, but it's possible that they are from an alternate universe and have no analogue in the universe that our version of Gil is from. So, someone like Prisma Illya, even though she's from an alternate universe, still shares a form with someone from the FGO universe (Illya once lived in the FGO world as confirmed by Sitonai). But the KnK and LB6 characters may not have equivalent versions in this world outside of their Chaldea Servant forms.

    I had always understood, from one of the VN's I think, that Enuma Elish's power was that it "reveals a truth of the world." EA is engraved with the stories of Bablyon, IIRC, and Enuma Elish is witnessing the split of heaven and earth. It's an attack that, therefore, deal more damage to those who either don't understand that or are affected by it. The reason the inventors are passed is that they know, and Holmes fits in this category too. You reach a state of enlightenment about the world where Enuma Elish is no longer REVEALING to you a truth, or you possess a truth of your own that's equal to it. The aliens are immune because what does the "truth" of this world mean to them? It's inconsequential to someone like Altera, who is the avatar of the white titan? So, ultimately, it just becomes a case of "Fate writers can randomly make someone not weak to Enuma Elish by saying they know things or have their own truth that counter acts it."

  • @dxnd_

    i think for altera since (at least in extella) altera the saber form aka hero is a somewhat separate entity from the titan altera as she manifest and experience life on earth as one of its inhabitant as for the sword, as betweener for men and god, gilgamesh knows of the white titan and aware of the sword of mars which is probably the reason why she is weak to enuma elish.
    and for the santa version that make me think that the christmas power is an otherworldy power (idk maybe santa is an alien in fate?) also i see some things her profile that makes me think she is closer to the white titan, like her personality is more softer which makes her doesnt have the trait, but idk about that since her lacks of expressiveness makes me believe she is hero altera

    Ea's special ability is to strip away the textures of reality to 'reveal the truth of things.' So the Servants that are not bound by the textures of reality, either because they were never a part of it the first place like MHX or because they helped transcend those textures like Tesla, are not going to be effected by Ea's special effect. Although they will still be hurt by the actual energy wave that Ea shoots out.

    The whole Kara no Kyoukai thing makes sense on its own merits without needing to resort to the 'alternate universe' thing (especially because it's not clear that they actually *are* a separate branch of the multiverse from Fate, since Touko is involved in the ending of Heaven's Feel and there really isn't any reason to artificially separate them the way Nasu has decided to do in recent years with Tsukihime. That separation with tsukihime is actually an argument for Shirou Emiya and Shiki Ryougi existing in the same world, too, since according to nasu, the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception are something only one person can have at a time, so Kara no Kyoukai can't be in the tsukihime side of the multiverse.
    Realistically, though, the reason why Gil would be unable to counter her is that her abilities are something that have only ever existed once and border on True Magic. He's never seen them before and it's possible even his third noble phantasm can't quite work out what he's seeing. It's entirely possible that she could *kill* Enuma Elish - like, the attack itself, as it's about to hit her.

    I want to point out with Melusine as well as the other Tam Lin. They do not possess lostbelt versions of the the Round Table's weapons. They are mere imitations created from their own power. Barghest with her horn and Melu with her own mana.

    I like to think Gilgamesh just throws the battle when against Castoria, in the hope that she falls for him.

    Odd, I was just involved in a conversation on FB about this yesterday🤔
    But, Enki/Ea are also the god of Wisdom which is why he named it Ea. He say it contains true knowledge.
    Side note, I'm pretty sure KnK takes place in FGOs timeline. As Shiki helps us to protect her Daughter from Goetia's incineration.

    I feel like counter guardians would also be exempt from weak to enuma elish since they are a product of the counter force, unless gilgamesh somehow possessed the counter force at some point in his life but idk.

    As I heard, in our universe Altria can manifest in all classes except Caster class, so Castoria not being weak to Enuma Elish can be explained by that

    A bit of spoilers regarding Oberon
    I think in the case of Oberon, his noble phantasm is more of a conceptual manifestation of his legend with Vortigern rather than something you can possess. In LB6, it was mentioned that the reason for Oberon-Vortigern’s being in LB6 is to essentially be a doomsday device. We could confirm this by Oberon’s actions and his dialogue with the player after he swallows up everything in the lostbelt, himself included. Lie Like Vortigern isn’t something Gil can copy as such since the embodiment of that phantasm is 1, a concept more than tangible weapon like Caliburn or Durandel, and 2, the phantasm embodies a self-destructive trait in which the user consumes everything including themselves. In terms of gameplay-wise, Oberon (stage3 ver.) turns himself into the Abyssal Worm for his NP animation, but lore-wise he and it were shown to be both present at once as if they are different entities, rather than the same being, which I do find odd. But other than that, I don’t really see any explanation for how he’s unaffected by Weak to Enuma Elish.

    Spoiler;
    Castoria created her NP through Muramasa in LB6 as she is a template for a Divine Construct and created Excalibur because Excalibur didn't exist yet in that timeline, but Castoria gave Chaldea The Excalibur recipe and she made Excalibur her magecraft. Any questions?

    I thought that Enuma Elish is not only a rampage of extremely violent wind that destroy everything in its wake, but also a surge of knowledge and wisdom, so when it crashes on someone, they not only are damage physically, but also spiritually? That's also some star servants have no Weak to Enuma Elish trait; they seen it all, so their soul can handle the overload of information from Enuma Elish in some degree.

    I would think that the counter guardians would also be included in “not weak to Enuma Elish” as the EMIYA’s dont really have noble phantasms lore wise, I don’t k one about okita though

      I think because they're ultimately lesser Servants compared to Heroic Spirits they are automatically weaker.

  • @baclaba12
    @baclaba12 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is purely conjecture but i suspect that the reason Saber Altera is weak to enuma elish is based on her being the version of Altera that's only function is to be a heroic spirit, its basically not her real body just a heroic spirit meant solely to exist on earth that's stronger than most others. Whereas archer Alterea seems to be a version of titan Altera from extella based purely on her personality and way of speaking being very similar to the titan altera as opposed to her heroic spirit saber form. so archer Altera might be closer to the manifestation of her real body or something.
