  • Owners do not remember what year they bought the van but believe it has been sitting for at least 25 years and have never seen the van run. Van was purchased specifically to store parts.

    You're a smart man. You work on engines until you get them to run. You have a good voice for videos too.

    Heyo! I’m trying to find videos re setting valve lash in my 65 G10… none told them stick but the hot cylinders are tight and the cooler ones are loose.

    People only have love for 350s?!
    No love for the lovely 230?…

      I haven’t worked on any of the cars you’ve seen on video all summer. Working full time now so hopefully this winter I’ll have days I can take off and get more video made.

    I've owned both a '64 & '65 with a straight 6. Putting in a V8 will cause problems from the get go like over heating, noise and losing control when you punch it. Smart to stick with a 6. Good luck.

      I had a 66 also. Straight 6

    • @ffcorona

      @Uncle Jim I was thinking about a larger v8 would cause problems. I can see a 283 would be just fine. I should have been more clearer.

      @Uncle Jim I was straight out of high school in '72. My dad got me a job and I told him I wanted a '69 Camaro to go to work and back. He then bought a white '65 Chevy van for $500. To me looked like a loaf of bread on wheels. I immediately took it to Earl Sheibs and had them paint it cinnamon brown, put some polished aluminum Anson Sprint rims with fat tires in the rear. The paint job cost $19.99 back in '72.

    I just found a 65 G10 on the marketplace for 1,000.it looks exactly like this one.down to almost the same patina white and surface rust spots. I got to find a place to put it or I can buy it

    I've stuffed V8's into many 1st gen Chevy G10s. Better mileage than straight six too. Unless you do what I did and put a 520 HP 383 GM performance engine in it!

    I maintain a 1965 G-10 registry - by chance would you know the VIN - I would like to track the van. The VIN tag is on the driver's side rear door pillar ~ behind a driver's head.

    I just pulled out my fathers 1965 G10. Been in the woods for 30 years. Any recommendations as I begin to work on this?

    • @meccarepair2597
      @meccarepair2597  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No matter if the motor is free, I would take the valve cover off make sure the valves are free and won’t stick. You can just turn the motor over by hand 5 or 6 times and if nothing binds up or comes to a dead stop it should be good.

    • @meccarepair2597
      @meccarepair2597  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also pour motor oil down the spark plug holes and leave them out until you get the oil blown out. It will foul the plugs so don’t put new ones in until you get it running half ass with the old ones may have to clean them a few times. This all exactly what I did to this van.

    been a few years, what happened to the van ?

    • @meccarepair2597
      @meccarepair2597  ปีที่แล้ว

      The van is still in the same spot it was. A few months ago I took my skid steer and moved it out of the hole it was sitting in to keep the underside out of the dirt.

      Haven’t done anything more with the van. Bought a house a year ago and that’s become my focus. If I ever do anything with it I’m sure I’ll video it.

  • @willthetrill4849

    Why not drop a 327 in that van?

    • @meccarepair2597
      @meccarepair2597  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don’t own the van... yet. If I bought it I would probably do something very “out of the box” with it in the long run like a 3.8 liter V6. Something with decent gas mileage. Short term I would find a simple straight six to replace it and drive it.

      @@meccarepair2597 well good luck in getting this van. I know those engines are built like tanks but it would be fun to over rev the shit out of it to finish it off

    • @meccarepair2597

      The van is my grandparents and I think they would give it to me if I asked but they’ve already given another car to me that I hope to make my next first start video on. It’s a 1968 Plymouth Belvedere. 4 door but I still love the look. 225 slant six 3 speed so not very exciting but it’s been sitting for at least 30 years and would be really awesome if I could drive it from where it’s been sitting.
