    I use a cheap grade of super glue for doping. Works okay for me, and fits my budget.

    Good demo. Tip: I cleaned all the wax out of my dop pot and placed a small clean cat food can in the wax holder. The rim of the can keeps my stones from falling onto the wax while heating the stones. The wax still heats up and it is a lot less messy.

    Looks like sealing wax. Amazing that this can grab on so tight! Great demo, and exciting to know this can be done at home. What a lot of fun is lapidary work!

    Great vid, I ordered a wax pot like yours! Have a slant machine coming from Ebay, didn't want to get a Kab King yet! Just doing it for fun! Mostly into casting Silver but I collect stones for rings and pendants! Time I make my own cabs! Going to try Opal! Any tips!

      The opals don’t like the heat from the dop pot. I use super glue to attached to a dop stick.

      @GotchaRocksJewelryDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use baking soda to instantly solidify the super glue. Just sprinkle a little in the glue and it will stick the opal and the stick together. Put it under a warm lamp or just let it cure for ten minutes or so. Then you can start cutting.

    Awesome video. How do you remove the Dop wax when finished cabbing the stone?

    • @GotchaRocksJewelryDIY
      @GotchaRocksJewelryDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! You can put them in the freezer and the stone will pop off. If that doesnt work I warm up the stone and remove it with a knife. Heres a video. th-cam.com/video/QxyKUsZ3Uu8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=P3XbcmXYhnDjyl1T

    Thanks for the videos! They're very helpful for me as a beginner. I got one of the dop stations like that and tried it for the first time last night. After 2 hours it still hadn't melted the green wax enough to stick to the dowel rod. It heated it just enough that I could squish it down in the container, but never melted past the grainy stage. I used brand new green wax, and put in about half a stick. Any recommendation how I can correct that?

    • @GotchaRocksJewelryDIY
      @GotchaRocksJewelryDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds like a problem with the heating element. It should be to hot to touch. See if you can return it. They are supposed to heat up to around 200+ degrees

    What size is most comfortable with the drop sticks?

    • @GotchaRocksJewelryDIY
      @GotchaRocksJewelryDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like 6 to 8 inches. There isn’t a hard fast rule on that. Just make it long enough that your fingers don’t hit the wheel

    • @GotchaRocksJewelryDIY

      I have a video on that. I have some people put it in the freezer and it pops right off. Don’t do this with opals.

    I have a question. Do you just put the stick of wax in the pot till you have enough melted, or break wax off the stick and put it into the pot? I'm confused by the directions that came with my dop station. It says to place up to a full 1/4 lb stick in the pot, break the stick into pieces so they don't melt outside the pan. I don't think I can break the stick.

    • @GotchaRocksJewelryDIY
      @GotchaRocksJewelryDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I just break the wax sticks so they fit in the pot and keep adding wax till it’s about half full of melted wax.
