I saw Rachel Tucker on Broadway a few years ago and she was amazing but when I saw Alice last year it was the first time I've felt truly blown away when watching a show (like to the point of being speechless)
I personally think the growling adds character and it's a good way to not strain on high notes. A potential wicked witch of the west, can't have perfect, princessey vocals like some Elphabas. Her and Idina Menzel are great Elphabas vocally, I can't comment on the acting.
Team Queen’ s Fearn Tucker and Bentley Forever agree. I fell into an “Alice Fearn-Defying Gravity” hole and every video of her singing this song is incredibly consistent. She is a very skilled singer.
It’s more than two years since Alice’s last performance as Elphaba and -well- the fact that we are still listening to her defying gravity speaks volumes. Best Elphaba by far! She brought soooo much more to her than her predecessors
When I first heard Alice's Elphaba I couldn't get used to her vocal too,but that's what makes her different from the other elphabas. Maybe some people think she struggles on those high notes, but for me it perfectly portray how fierce this role "could" be.What I say is Elphaba doesnt have to be fierce, but it would be interesting and impressing to see one like Alice.
I wish I could've been there today, but I got to see her live in the 2pm matinee show after West End Live, and she just blew me away. I wasn't sure if she'd be there because on the screen that shows the casting, it said that her standby, Laura Pick, would be playing the role. I'm glad that Alive made it back to the theatre in time to do the show. I had to squint a few times bc I wasn't sure if it was her or not, but once she started speaking, and then singing, I 100% knew that it was her. I absolutely loved her For Good with Sophie. Definitely one of the best Elphabas I have ever seen, and I have seen my fair share of Elphabas from the number of times I've seen Wicked.
Same here, went to see the matinee after seeing her at West End Live 2018. Was super confused with the cast board at the beginning - but especially her Defying Gravity just blows the roof of the Apollo Victoria in this unmistakable way. She's absolutely amazing and such a special Elphaba!!
Antje Hermann I 100% agree with you. My first Elphaba was Alexia Khadime back in 2009, so she will always hold that little spot as one of my favourite Elphabas, but all the other Elphabas I have seen in the numerous times I have seen Wicked, they were all amazing. But Alice Fearn is definitely one of the best by far.
Yesterday I came back from the west end performance of Wicked and Alice was So INCREDIBLE! If you think she is good here, you need to watch her live in the theatre. Me and my School had chills!
wow..best Elphaba,.so full of character and a beautiful voice..she saves her voice to bless us with those last few notes, which is so smart on her part.
I saw alice last night in the show at the apollo. And this song got me in tears, shes one special lady. And at stage door she is one of the nicest celebs ive met. And shes gorgeous, green and not xx
I saw Wicked back in late May and it was AMAZING!!!!!!! I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!! I went with my Orchestra group, we r from California and we took a plain out to NYC, we went 4 an entire week!!!!! And it was so FUN AND AMAZING!!!!!! My BEST and FAVORITE part of NYC was seeing Wicked!!!!!! Elphaba had an AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, STRONG VOICE AND the good witch was sooooo FUNNY AND ALSO HAD A BEAUTIFUL VOICE, I LOVE her cover on "Popular" She had a great voice for it!!!!!! And it was hilarious!!😅😅😂😂 And they were both BEAUTIFUL!!!! I LOVE HOW Elphaba fell in love with the "scarecrow" that was beautiful!!! AND MOST OF ALL I LOVE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO WITCHES!!!!! But anyways my Orchestra and I performed at the Macy's Store!!!! It was just amazing and one chance in a life time!!!!!!!
Sarah Louise who cares what they are ?! I just said that because those 5 women are really talented and it will be amazing to have the 5 of them performing together !! You have your preference, good ! But don't discredit the others because you don't like them !
Sarah Louise no I never said that Willemijn has a high range ( I don't know anything about singing and techniques ) ! You said that Rachel and Alice were too powerful for Willemijn which, I said, wasn't true after MY opinion only !
Probably should have waited till the 23rd of November when I see Wicked (so it was a surprise)... but OH MY GOSH! I can tell this is DEFINITELY worth flying over from Australia for 😍
Alice reminds me of Kristy Cates (original understudy "Elphaba" on Broadway and then later fulltime "Elphaba) in the Chicago cast)... Both her look and voice.
Went to see this the other day and it was brilliant! I was quietly singing along with defying gravity (I’m also studying this song for music gcse so I kept thinking of musical terms!🤣)
Wow, another excellent portrayal of elphaba. And I love the evilness brought to it. Which really should be there in the change of the character. Not sure about so much growling, but it did bring character. I give the performance an A
Gutted that Sophie and Alice didn’t perform For Good like they did with Willemijn and Suzie last year 😭 anyways, Alice completely nailed it (like always!)
That was absolutely brilliant 😆 the only elphaba I have seen is the fantastic Kerry Ellis, it’s my wish to see Alice and Sophie but I can never get down to London 😪
One of the best castings in the history of Wicked.
100% agree.
Alice and Rachel’s Angel Forever What about Willemijn Verkaik?
@@blazpirnat7714 the comment said one of the best. Willemijn ist THE BEST xD
YES!!!!
Just ONE.
Alice is unreal as Elphaba. I saw her live back at the start of the year - she’s honestly captivating vocally and performance wise 👏🏼
Alice is my favourite Elphaba
@@RedGirlTravels Same here. She my Queen for life
I went to see wicked this month, it was absolutely unbelievable, this recording doesn't show how amazing she is live on stage.. it was breath taking
The line “nobody in all of Oz, no wizard that there is or was” gets me every single time... I can’t wait to go see this show again in a few months! :)
How was it?😊😊
I can definitely see why they booked her for another year as Elphaba. She’s phenomenal. And looks fabulous in green. 💚
Samuel Brown nah. She's too busy singing. She forgot she needs to act too
Eli G She actually reinvented elphaba for a lot of people. She's borderline Willemjin and Rachel in one.
Trell huh? She's what? I have no idea what you've just said.
Eli G She's like Rachel Tucker and Willemjin Verkaik in terms of acting and singing in one.
Trell I swear I would rather have a DVD of Rachel's performance than watching this one live. For free
When I watched her singing in Apollo Victoria theatre, I understood the meaning of the word, incredible.
Love it.
I Had the pleasure of watching her on the west end last year along with the lovely Sophie Evans! Amazing performances from both of them 😍
I saw Rachel Tucker on Broadway a few years ago and she was amazing but when I saw Alice last year it was the first time I've felt truly blown away when watching a show (like to the point of being speechless)
Well bloody hell, that gave me goosebumps! She's quite conversational in her singing if that makes sense and it works so well! Amazing!
I personally think the growling adds character and it's a good way to not strain on high notes. A potential wicked witch of the west, can't have perfect, princessey vocals like some Elphabas. Her and Idina Menzel are great Elphabas vocally, I can't comment on the acting.
Annika Hollister Idina cannot sing. She shouts in tune.
I love it when people do that as Elphaba, especially during the line "look to the western skies"
This! Alice is playing Elphaba, not Beyoncé. She is channeling Margaret Hamilton in this performance.
Annika Hollister shes undeniably good! Great control too but growls and vocal breaks is very unhealthy and puts a lot of strain in someones voice.
By far the greatest Elphaba. Was moved to tears by Alice’s performance on the West End in May x
Zoë Francis be careful with the use of "by far" because I believe Wilemijn is better than her.
It's a hard one she's amazing as well and give a little edge with the growling but willemijns high notes are just a tiny bit more my preference
Sorry but Willemijn > Alice
When I first heard Alice's Elphaba I couldn't get used to her vocal too,but that's what makes her different from the other elphabas.
Maybe some people think she struggles on those high notes, but for me it perfectly portray how fierce this role "could" be.What I say is Elphaba doesnt have to be fierce, but it would be interesting and impressing to see one like Alice.
I saw her in 2016 and she is AMAZING. Bear in mind I was 10 and I don't have the best memory but honestly I was in awe
she really is the best elphaba, I’m in awe of her voice!
I wish I could've been there today, but I got to see her live in the 2pm matinee show after West End Live, and she just blew me away. I wasn't sure if she'd be there because on the screen that shows the casting, it said that her standby, Laura Pick, would be playing the role. Alice blew me away once more. Soo good
i saw alice in march 2018, and honestly she was so amazing ♡♡
I hope I can go to West End LIVE someday. This was a great performance!
Idk wth are people complaining bout she sounded amazing
princepeterwolf Probably that she didn't do all her riffs and people are used to her doing so?
She sounds better without unnecessary riffs tho
This is amazing the best I have heard her sing it but she is always amazing
Best Elphaba ever she's amazing live :)
Wow. That growl and her powerful version is just wow. 💚
We saw Alice play Elphaba a couple of months ago. She gave me goosebumps, what an amazing voice!
I saw Alice about 3 weeks ago and instantly fell in love 💗
Yesterday I came back from the west end performance of Wicked and Alice was So INCREDIBLE! If you think she is good here, you need to watch her live in the theatre. Me and my School had chills!
Her growling adds more of that original Wicked Witch of the West authenticity from the original movie
tragic anthony 100% agree!
Saw the show November 2017 in London.....Everything was unbelievable, I almost flew back last month to see it again...A must see..
OMG ALICE SLAY RIFFS I LOVE IN 2017-18 YAAAS QUEEN
Superb, saw wicked on Halloween and wow it was frickin awesome, Alice has such a stunning voice, blown away x
I LOVE HER. Her way of portraying Elphaba is unique. I think shes doing great vocally.
wow..best Elphaba,.so full of character and a beautiful voice..she saves her voice to bless us with those last few notes, which is so smart on her part.
Saw her live last year at West End, she was Absolutely stunning!
She is just incredible!!! Those vocals are so gorgeously perfect!
Love how British she sounds. Like I’m used to listening to the sound track and it’s got the American accent. She’s pretty awesome!
I saw alice last night in the show at the apollo. And this song got me in tears, shes one special lady. And at stage door she is one of the nicest celebs ive met. And shes gorgeous, green and not xx
One of the best casting in the history of wicked
Watched her in 2017 and was absolutely blown away by her voice!
Ok looking at this again in 2021, still unreal
YES ALICE SLAY RIFFS I LOVE 😍😍💚💚👏👏👏
First time I’ve heard her sing as Elphba. SHE IS AMAZING 💚💚 Such a strong voice 💚💚
Thanks so much for uploading this! Gutted I couldn't make it there today. Alice is absolutely astounding!!
Is it just me or does she have some Celine Dion vibes as Elphaba? =)
She totally does! Glad it's not just me! I
Absolutely agree. Not sure if it's a good thing for musical theatre
Thought the same when watched her live 2 days ago
I love that you said that she definitely does
I totally thought the same when I watched her live as Elphaba in London West End in July 2019. Absolutely stunning voice!
This is my first time listing to her !she is so talented
One of the best Elphabas ive ever seen, seen her in theatre and she is unreal
Absolutely loved her 😍
Absolutely spectacular. The best Elphie of all time.
I love her so much! This is amazing! 😭💚😭💚😭
I really like the fact that she is singing this song so effortlessly. like she's singing ABCs.
I’m so looking forward to seeing WICKED on West END in october!!!!😀
One of the best casting in the history wicked

Can we have her, Willemijn Verkaik, Rachel Tucker, Jemma Rix and Jackie Burns for a concert ?? Please 💚💚💚💚
I think you never heard them if you say that :)
Sarah Louise thats not true. Willemijn is the queen of belting. Higher range and good technique withput singing nasal.
DreamOn true 😍
Sarah Louise who cares what they are ?! I just said that because those 5 women are really talented and it will be amazing to have the 5 of them performing together !! You have your preference, good ! But don't discredit the others because you don't like them !

Wow amazing
Probably should have waited till the 23rd of November when I see Wicked (so it was a surprise)... but OH MY GOSH! I can tell this is DEFINITELY worth flying over from Australia for 😍
My favorite performance of defying gravity by far🙏🏻
Alice reminds me of Kristy Cates (original understudy "Elphaba" on Broadway and then later fulltime "Elphaba) in the Chicago cast)... Both her look and voice.
I am a goosebump now

She sung it better than Indina bloomin heck
Idina’s more of an actress than singer imo, Alice is a perfect storm of both
I can’t agree with this one-
Gutted that Sophie and Alice didn’t perform For Good like they did with Willemijn and Suzie last year 😭 anyways, Alice completely nailed it (like always!)
Jakeybakey5 I’m sure they will next year
Same ! WIllemijn and Suzie's For Good is awesome 💚
Alice is SUCH a babe. What an Elphaba 💚
