Neural DSP really should team up with Jari for an amp, or atleast a few presets. The guitar tone on Time II is absolutely nuts. Been trying to replicate it, it's near impossible. Lots is in his playstyle though, he strums/picks insanely hard and uses high output active pickups, meaning the signal must be blazing hot and super punchy.
Did you get the Time package? Would be cool to continue ‘Winter-Sunday’ with some of the bonus tracks that came with the Time package, like Powers Inside and Raise Your Swords

Ya know, I love Wintersun so much!!! They are my favorite band for sure. But....I was sad to share your opinion. I actually changed the sound settings in my car. I turned the bass way the hell down and trebble a little higher than normal. It helped a bit. I was a little sad that I couldn't hear the vocals well. Then again, the more I heard the song (I've heard it multiple times every day) the easier everything is to hear and I've heard or picked up on new things I didnt hear the fist few listens. There's so much going on in this song, it takes a few listens to fully absorb it. This album reminds me so much of their debut album, which is my all TIME favorite albums 😅
Jari has this really cool way of finding a way to capture like.. a non musical thing that might not even relate to sound perfectly into the ambiance of his music. I first realized it in The Weeping Forest, how there were sounds that perfectly grasped the feel of a finnish pine forest with rays of the sun coming through the branches. Storm does similar thing with the lead guitar at around 4:55. Perfectly captures the essence of a storm, kind of howling wind. So glad they also brought back variation of that riff in 5:25.

Storm is my favorite song in the album, when the guitars begin it reminds me of A Fine Day to Die by Bathory. Ominous Clouds so much sounds like the ending of Beautiful Death, which is absolutely beautiful. Once again, I LOVE their debut album and this sounds so much like it and I'm so happy for it. Storm is in my running playlist and I beat my speed record because of this song, the tempo just kept me going and filled me with so much energy. I don't know if anyone has seen Avatar the Last Airbender the cartoon, but when the fast part begins in the song, it reminds me of the music from the fight scene between Aang and the Firelord which is as epic as this song! Jari's operatic voice and his demonic, black/metal vocals are just filled with such emotion. There's so much to say about this song, it fucking awesome, the more I listen, the more things I notice!!! The solo also sounds like a whirlwind, Storm is such an appropriate title, it's exactly what it sounds like. I can't wait to hear Silver Leaves.
I've never been able to understand why people hold the song Time over Sons of Winter and Stars. Sons has everything and is the best song ever written, with peak epic.
I can answer as back when I started being a Wintersun fan I ranked Sons above Time. But as Time went on I began to appreciate the way that Time resonates with me on an emotional level. Sons is abolutely fantastic don't get me wrong an probably objectively has more epic riffs but the way Time speaks to me is unrivaled. Time is also I think more coherent where Sons is a bit of a medley with lots of different elements. To be honest I could easily still say I love Sons more than Time depending on the day of the week but I mostly tend to rank Time higher nowadays.
With better drum sounds Time (I & II combined) would be a top 5 album of all time for me. I just can't get over that snare sound and the symbals are almost inaudible.

@@sat8959 Yes, you're supposed to listen this with enough volume for the singing to sound loud enough and the storm around you will be deafening as a result, as a hurricane should be. Latest Nightwish album is similar in this sense. And you should try to acquire an uncompressed version to not hear the compression errors in the audio.

The most relaxing thing is to sleep in a tent and to hear the rain pound on the roof. Nothing more soothing.
Storm was a definite standout for me on this album especially on the first listening. These two songs alone were well worth the wait.

To me Ominous Clouds connects to One With the Shadows due to it ending side A on vinyl. Side B starts with Storm.
Sound wise it doesn’t, and even when I interviewed Jari he called it an intro/interlude to Storm
…one reason I don’t own gramophone - I can’t imagine listening to album, not only this one, and to have to cut it in half…
The sound of the vinyl is so great, you have to hear it one day. Nevertheless the cut after omnious clouds is a pity
