HI Cody, I have been following your channel since the very start and I can honestly say that is one of the best videos you have done. I believe the UK military would call that pack "specific to task", an item designed specifically to do one thing well. What an excellent design! Can I ask how firefighters manage to keep their water supply cool enough to drink? When ever i see news reports of large forest fires I am always thinking about the men putting their lives on the line to try and contain the fires. Keep up the good work Cody, regards from a rather wet UK to your family

I can’t speak to what everyone does, but during my time fighting fires we typically had access to ice in the mornings (if we were in a fire camp) so I would load up my hydration pack with ice before filling it with water. That would prolong my cool water. I also had a 64oz hydro flask that would keep water cool all day. It was heavy but I accepted the extra weight for cold water on a hot fire line.
I’ve also been on fires where I didn’t have access to ice or anything and your water was nearly too hot to drink. In those times we just sucked it up and drank hot water. It’s hard work but I loved my time doing it.

As a child I escaped my abusive father at the age of 9… some years after, a young fatherless teen, I used to watch your videos. I knew most of the skills you taught me, I’d never have the opportunity to implement, however you provided me with a sense of… a very respectable father figure teaching me life lessons… now I’m 27, at work, and I looked out onto the beautiful pine tree and it sparked memories… things I’ve learned from you about the importance felled trees can have on an ecosystem and I’m rambling on the lessons to my supervisor. Surprisingly she seems interested in my ramblings this time… either way, I just wanted to make you aware of the impact you had on my youth. Growing up, I looked at you and said “that’s the man I wanna be”… so today I still strive to meet those standards and every lesson I learned, I’ll do my best to teach to my 2 young daughters… thank you for everything

I prefer bottles over a bladder bag too, but for a totally different reason, I always find if I ever am drinking anything other than pure water cleaning out a bladder and hose can be difficult, and even if I am drinking pure water, the little bit of water in the tube can get pretty disgusting over the course of a few hours. But lots of people love bladders too so I guess they work for some people. I have also snagged the bladder hose on a branch before and ripped it off leaking all my water down my back but I was using a cheap no name bladder and I hadn't strapped the hose tightly to the should strap so I guess that can be blamed on user error.

@@littlejackalo5326 We are provided with little packets of electrolyte powder similar to Gatorade but tastes nowhere near as good, I think its called "squincher" or something. I usually provide my own powder. According to our guidelines we are supposed to drink 3 units of water, 1 unit of that stuff but I think for most people it's more like a 1:1 ratio.

I suggest you change the LED to blue since it complements skin tone (since you are the subject of your videos this makes most sense) where pink only competes with skin tone.

No it makes a difference. You may think its in consequential but Im a professional photographer and make decent living from these things. We are biologically programmed to respond to color. Pink is feminine color and produces a chemical reaction as does blue. There's a reason fruit is colorful when fresh and brown when rotten. My suggestion is intended to help not criticize.

I agree that your GEAR is the most important thing. When you’re out in the woods and that terrain daily 10-16 hrs a day, #1 priority IS your BOOTS! You’ll NEVER regret that $350 pair of quality boots! If you take proper care/maintenance they’ll last a lifetime. You’ll get them resoled every 2-3 yrs, keep them oiled/conditioned properly best $$ you’ll ever spend HANDS DOWN!!!

Dana Gleason is the best pack builder Ever. I still wear a Dana Bridger I purchased many years ago and I will keep doing till it gets that cheesey smell that most packs get. I’ve always eyed the Mystery Ranch packs(owned and started by Gleason), but the Bridger is still holding its own.

Thumbnail had me thinking this was a video about why you need Ray Bans brand sunglasses to fight fires.
Half of the videos on this channel are about why you need the most expensive version of anything you buy. (No hate, just sayin)
Like those guys who pay thousands for brand name designer clothing or special edition sneakers. Except with gear and tools that are actually practical.
Buy once, cry once is a real thing tho. Especially when you depend on that gear for safety or getting jobs done.

I can attest to the absolute trash quality of those yellow fire rigs they hand out. You get maybe 2L of water and a lunch on top of you essential gear and that's about it. Im 6'4" and run 240-260lbs and that gear never fits right.
