    At 0:50, an M32 ARV, based on a Sherman medium tank.
    At 2:49, it is indeed an M42 Duster.
    At 5:13, a US 105 mm howitzer. I think it is either an M101 or M101A1.
    At 5:18, those are Soviet ML-20 gun-howitzers. The ML-20 was also used as the main weapon of the SU-152 and ISU-152 assault guns(as ML-20S).
    At 7:07 is something we don't see very often,an UTZM turret for the T-34-76.
    At 8:00 , the 2S1 Gvozdika:it used the MT-LBu as a basis vehicle. And the MT-LB and MT-LBu utilized a lot of common and interchangeable parts with the PT-76. And the 2S1 is also amphibious.
    From 9:19 ,the vehicles which Jens Wehner refers as 'BTRs' are actually variants of the BRDM-2.
    At 10:35 , I think the bigger calibre gun barrel belonged to a 10 cm sK18 field gun, but(obviously) I maybe wrong on this one.
    At 11:02 , the 37 Lorraine Schlepper is the 6 roller-type version. The French also made(and the Germans also utilized) the smaller, 4-roller version.
    At 12:04 , that thing is a tank recovery vehicle, based on probably an ISU-122. (The ISU-152 were also given to some Warsaw Pact countries, but the ISU-122s were probably more commonly given,because the Soviets kept most of the 152s for themselves.) You could see the cut where the part which holds the gun mantlet supposed to be. They gave it a new TC's cupola.
    At 12:17 , that is either the SU-122T( basically, SU-122 assault howitzer repurposed as tank recovery vehicle) or the very similar thing based on the early SU-85. The rectangular cupola gives at away. Again, it is clear where the gun assembly was.
    I hope you find my notes useful a bit, fellow viewers.

    • @Infinite_Jester
      @Infinite_Jester 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Johan Jacobs it's not open to the public. It's really common for art museums as well to stash most of their collection outside of a public space (although typically pieces in storage will be rotated at some point, unlike here).
      You probably won't be allowed access without a good reason. MHV probably got in because he's making a video about the objects which furthers the museum's objective of spreading and preserving culture.
      I assume he's also starting to be something of a name (since these fields are typically small), and has useful contacts to both historians and museums.

    Its a nice museum, i was there in September 2019.
    There was a part in the museum, where they showed the broken and dead soldiers after getting wounded or after a suicide like put water in your mouth and then shot through your mouth. Damn, that was hard to stomach.
    But the impressive one was the model of a württembergian WW1 Infanterie-Division?, not sure at the moment, the figures of the soldiers were only 3 cm tall, but the whole display was maybe 40 meter long in a very tight column.
    They have a V2 too, a russian Sojus 29 (Siegmund Jähn), a Marder (manned torpedo) and much more stuff.

    • @lobsterbark
      @lobsterbark 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @trainbomb No, it was because people in the field underestimated the public's potential reaction to it. The American rocket programs were ahead, they just hadn't gotten anything into orbit yet because they were too busy making progress with the program as a whole to rush the milestone of first orbital rocket over all else. The first US satellite is still up there, and contained much more useful scientific instruments than Sputnik did. Sputnik fell down after a few weeks, and only contained a radio that broadcasted a beep.
      The first cosmonauts in space and the craft used to get them there were impressive compared to what the US had at the time, however. They were capable of staying in space longer and getting more useful things done while up there than American efforts.
      Later Soviet rockets engines were also quite good, far better than American ones. So good, the US imported them after the cold war ended and kept ordering more because they had difficulty copying them. Only very recently was this stopped, and only for political reasons.

    • @lobsterbark
      @lobsterbark 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @trainbomb The majority of the major Soviet firsts were first because they got a barely working stripped down rushed payload out there to be the first. The majority of American firsts were more useful missions with much more scientific data recorded and lessons learned from.
      The exception being early manned flights. The Soviets were ahead there.

    As far as I know, Soviet/Russian tradition names weapon systems by their purpose, that is, artillery systems as you mentioned are called by flover names "Akaciya" (acacia), "Tyulpan" (tulip) etc, while AA weapons bear names of rivers, like "Shilka" and "Dvina".

    • @GrimFaceHunter

      @TotalRookie_LV 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GrimFaceHunter
      Nah, those really are just names of flowers and rivers. Although purely by a coincidence, "Шилка"/"Shilka" does sound like it has a second meaning, as "шить" is "to sew", and "пришить" - to stitch (attach something by sewing, a button, for example), but also has a slang meaning of to kill, to assassinate, to shoot down, or to fabricate a case on someone.
      P.S. Just now I realized, they have broken that tradition at least for AA systems, as neither "Триумф", nor "Панцирь" are names of rivers, so now those titles seem to be given randomly.

    The Lorraine Schlepper is the most rare and valuable vehicle there as far as I know. And that Lens guy is showing the EU and Germany Socialism that has grown since the end of the Cold War. As a life time student of history I watch video's about logistics as well. After all, with out the beans, gas and bullets the tanks are just immobile, big, heavy road blocks.

    Luckily I had the chance to visit the Depot twice. It is incredible to see all that military material.
    They also have a very huge collection of different ammunitions including mines, bombs, rockets and much more.
    Sadly the approach of the historians in Dresden is kind of the hippie way.

      I only know from planes that basically a lot of the instruments had some kind of radioactive material, I think "illuminating" parts of it, since tanks are rather dark, I guess the same is true as well for their instruments.

      Very few tech was taken over in the bundeswehr , the Mig-29 for example. A lot was also sold, Soviet tech is used by many countrys, especially easter europe, africa and middle east, so there were enough possible buyers. Of that what wasn't, it went to scrapping. It sums up the bulk, some units survived as test vehicles or in collections (like seen here). In fact someone once said (I dunno, I think it was the curator of the panzer museum) that people think they had alot of GDR tech but sadly back in 1990 , nobody rly thought about preserving some of it and what they have isn't worth mentioning.

      Don't think so. This special basement is made for conservation purpose. Dresden is not next to Munster. The transport of the tanks would be very expensive just for one event.
      On the other hand the “Studiensammlung“ study collection of the Bundeswehr in Munster next to the Panzermuseum, has still some interessting tanks that can't be seen in the Panzermuseum for public yet.
