Can we take a moment just to appreciate the song "What We Have Is You"? "We may not have sunshine, or starlight, or weather // But we've got each other, and that's even better." I think it's really poignant the way it paints a picture that's really bleak on the surface, but still manages to find not only hope, but a deeply human joy in it. It captures the tone of the whole show really well that way. "You don't need the sun to keep you warm when you've got arms // Wishes come from you and not a random shooting star." There's something about the lack of all these basic parts of the natural world, combined with the presence of humanity, that gets me every time. Whoever wrote those lyrics deserves an award. "We may not have storm clouds, but the sky's always blue // We've got something special here, and what we have is you."
It's kinda cool how everyone in the show has their own thing with music: Kipo's parents (who pass it on to Kipo) have their special song on guitar Wolf (who isn't a big fan of music) sings a song about friendship Benson and Dave like hip hop and Benson is shown to be able to DJ later The Timber Cats have their banjo-country music The Snakes are more into rock with electric guitars The dubstep bees have their rave thing (Spolier warning below) The Newton Wolves like to rap Scarlemange has a big thing for classical music as he owns and plays a piano Most of the mega mutes have the same 'boss music' track The goat sisters have their song about cheese (which is arguably the best song)
I love how kipo makes connections through music. It shows how music is a universal language no matter your race or culture music connects you via your heart even if it's in a different language. I’m thinking because grown Dave is basically represents a young adult to middle age. The other stages cover years. Adult Dave covers decades. Super Dave is a wildcard so I don’t really count him.
The age thing in cartoons can be very confusing especially when cartoons have this weird rule that children regardless of age have to be shorter than their parents unless both start off as adults in the show, but a teenage or even twenty year old character is usually shorter than the parent in cartoons, including cartoons made for adults, see Hayley from American Dad for example. And additionally it was common for characters 13 and younger to be drawn tiny, see Gravity falls, Hilda, or the Ghost and Molly McGee for example, those are like ten year olds but they are like two feet tall. So it stands out that a character a bit taller in a cartoon being called younger.
