Your analysis makes a lot of sense regarding facial features adding to the total look, I never thought about that in depth. Dark or light hair can definitely drag the attention to different areas of our face, same as a haircut. In my opinion looking good with blond hair is also still particularly linked to our skin undertones and colour palette. Not only about looking "good" or "bad" with blond hair but looking our best with the right colour for us. Kirsten is a soft summer and they can easily look good with blond hair as well as brown hair, as long as it shows a cool undertone and it is not too dark for their complex. That is also the reason why she looks so much better with cool blond hair instead of a warm tone. As someone belonging to the dark winter palette, as soon as I dye my hair a bit lighter than a medium brown I look extremely washed out and older than I am. I believe bright winters (like Megan Fox) can have blond hair and look good but they still look their best with darker hair. No idea who the other lady is though, she seems to have a cool undertone but as she never been properly analyzed it can be deceitful with a lot of makeup on.
Hey! Yup totally agreed - your colour palette and contrast level definitely have a factor in determining whether you should go blonde or not. I just wanted to emphasize that the video topic was about proportions and features, NOT about skin tone or seasonal colours :) Bebe Rexha is a singer - you'll know her songs when you hear them!
Okay, this video blew my mind. Now I know why I’ve kept my hair platinum (sometimes with pale pastel rainbow colors mixed in) for years and wear very bold eye makeup- my least favorite facial feature is my long, pointy chin!
Natural blonde with a heart shaped face and olive skin here, I find I can get away with not wearing a lot of makeup and darker hair really softens my contrast a little more than lighter blonde.
Kristen Stewart has said in interviews before that blonde is her natural hair color (not sure which shade though). So that’s also why it looks best on her.
You are seriously so informative and helpful, I’ve loved every video you have here and especially how your channel focuses on why individual features each celebrity has “works” for them. It’s been frustrating seeing someone you think matches you, seeing them look amazing in xyz while it doesn’t work on you and not knowing “why” just thinking maybe makeup/hair isn’t “for you”. This video especially has been helpful for me and has given me confidence to try something crazy with my hair that I’ve always wanted to try and lacked the courage to. I hope you make many more videos
i'm a natural brunette and i think i look good both with very dark hair, very light (i used to go for ashy platinum/silver hair) as well as cherry red/carrot ginger hair. Different features of my face get enhanced with all of these but they definitely maintain my 'edgy' look (i have sharp features with pronounced cheekbones). I'd look awful in light brown/darker blonde though. These shades make my face just disappear (so if i ever go for a heist, i know which wig to go for xD)
LOL the heist! I feel similar with very dark and very light - I can do both but I find it's the medium shades that I don't really feel like myself in. I'd love to try a carrot ginger hair one day! ❤
Very Helpful! I look best with either dark-ish brown (my natural color) or really striking blonde hair. Anything in between or any type of red just washes me out and makes me disappear.
To me Bebe looks pretty bad with blonde hair, as it just doesn't work with her complexion too well, makes her look unwell. Maybe a softer, honey blonde would be better, but not platinum.
How about women that can only pull of dark hair? I notices I can only go dark on my hair and if I ever do a crazy wig color for halloween, the lightest color I can do is is white, silver or cool tone artificial colors. That would be a wonderful video, too.
I've been thinking on going blonde for a while to soften the angularity of my face but i'm a little scared to damage my hair and also i think darker hair compliments my skin tone better, i guess you cant have it all.
I know - I've had blonde hair for a while before to draw less emphasis on my pointy chin, but to get my dark hair to such a light level and also maintaining the roots is A LOT of work, let alone the damage! What I found as a happy medium is only wearing streaks of blonde along the sideburn area (I don't think you can see in this video because my hair is up but in other videos where I have my hair down you can see it). I really like it because the hair surrounding my hair is blonde so it does still help with softening my facial outline, but I don't have to bleach my whole head so there's far less damage! The look is also kinda in right now :)
Idk. I’m black and when I bleach my hair both black and white people have l asked me if it was naturally blonde. I’m not trying to pretend that I’m a natural blonde, but I think it just works really well for some people
Also, would blush help to create a "line" in a large/longer center part of the the face (2nd third)? Can you explain how blush / countour change visual proportions? I'm in love with your channel, thank you!!!❤
I love your videos (just discovered you today), but if possible, could you do away with some of the sound effects? OR maybe try out some softer ones, other than the 'magic wand'/tinker bell sounds? I think they're unnecessary and distract from the info, which is interesting enough as is. Just my 2 cents.
I always thought blonde hair looks really unnatural on them. I would have thought it would be more important to match blonde hair with lighter colour seasons (and the tone that it is).
I have a slight double chin that makes my bottom half of my face look heavy. I also have my age showing in my neck. But I also have strong features with big eyes. I wear wigs because I have alopecia and have many different color wigs. I like me in blonde best but people say I look better as a brunette. I don't know why that is maybe I have Boulder features that aren't usually part of the culture of people who are natural blondes and that's why they think the dark hair matches better?
Never try light blonde hair, only tried medium blonde once and it was bad in many different ways hahaha. As a round chin person, gonna stick with my natural black hair now 😅

You're beautiful either way, Jessica. Chin thing is just this creator's way of creating insecurities for women so they subscribe and look to her videos for "help" they don't need.
Do you think that having a square jaw would count as having a prominent chin? (trying to decide whether to go lighter or not for that reason, to soften the jaw a bit)

I’ve been getting a lot of greys to and I’m debating if I should dye to a dark color that matches my natural hair, or if I should just let it be!! I’ve gone blonde several times but I just can’t handle the whole bleaching / ruining my hair / chopping it all off cycle anymore 🥲🥹
@@stylerefinement mine hit all at once kind of during the pandemic and I had never colored my hair so I just let it go...not sure it's the best look but the other options are intimidating.
Nope, never again. I should've just bought a wig. I've destroyed my hair with the bleaching and worse that it drained all the colour and life of my face. I couldn't understand why though Because the colour was cool and and ashy, but there was simply not enough contrast in my face, so everything looked blurred.
Agreed - it's the facial features but also your personal colours/contrast levels that also need to be taken into consideration! Personally I've gone blonde multiple times and I love the look on me, but like you said bleaching and the maintenance killed my hair too and now I just like having streaks of blonde rather than bleaching the whole head!
This might be a dumb question but I have medium toned skin. Could I acheive a less contrasted look by lightening my hair to a color similar in shade to my skin tone? Should i also go blond like these ladies or do both of those options work?
The important factor is how similar the hair is to the skin tone and how it affects contrast level. In the examples I used, all of them have fairly light skin so when the hair is dark, the contrast level increases. But if you had much darker skin for example, a very light blonde would actually increase the contrast level! Hope that helps
will there be a similar effect (softening appearance of chin) by dying only the face framing hair strands (the front part) blonde, or will it only work if you dye all the hair blonde?
I tried this myself (as you can probably see in some of my other videos with small blonde streaks near my face) - and it doesn't work as well as having the same color all over! But something like Ombre or Balayage would have a similar effect for sure :)
I'm a soft summer- like Kristen- and I'm really struggling between making a choice. My face looks longer because of a longer nose/mid section (Celine Dion vibes) and I have a deep hairline, so I decided on face framing layers and a mid part. Between (ashy) blonde and brunette I'm struggling a bit. While I have a long face and bones, my eyes, lips and cheeks are very fleshy and rounded, so I give off strong "girl next door" and youthful vibes. People have been loving blonde on me because it makes me less "mousy" and plays into the soft featues of my face and softens the harsh ones. but I feel like brunette would be more natural for my soft summer colors and I might look more sophisticated. This clash of dramatic and natural features in my face really makes me want to look more effortlessly elegant while maintaining my natural self. Any advice?
Hi! I'd need to see your facial features to make accurate recommendations, but based on your description here's my opinion... It's interesting to hear that you have youthful vibes because usually a longer nose/middle third makes you look a little more mature/elegant, so your other facial features must offset that quite a bit! If you want to enhance more of that mature/elegant vibe I don't think that going brunette is a bad idea at all - but keep in mind if you're a soft summer then you probably look best in medium-value colours (not too light, not too dark) so maybe a lighter brunette as opposed to really dark could suit you well! Lighter hair like I mentioned in the video can help with drawing the emphasis away from your facial outline, and also from your facial features to a certain extent (like your nose for example), so to enhance your "girl next door" vibe keeping the blonde would be a good choice - so it depends on the image/vibe you want to go for! Hope that helps :)
@@stylerefinement Thank you for the detailed answer! Your content and insight is really special. I think I will try out an ashy medium brown with face framing layers and see how it looks and plays into my vibe.
@@stylerefinement I did it! 😄 I'm super happy with the color. It might not be as conventionally pretty but it feels a lot more like me. The ashy undertones really work with my color softness. I'm not too sure about the bangs though. Since my forehead is wide and my middle third is longer I thought curtain bangs would be nice. However, they finish below my cheekbones and it feels like my top and middle third just melted into one and look even bigger compared to my chin area😂 I put some other bangs a little below chin length to shorten the face which is nice but the curtain is not ideal yet🤭
@@itsnemosoul8398 I'm glad to hear you're happy with the colour! Who cares about what's conventional - it's all about how it makes YOU feel in the end! 🥰 Yeah I generally advise against bangs if you have a long middle third but curtain bangs should work better than heavy blunt bangs! If you have a less prominent chin then a darker color would help, but I think that in Lady Gaga's case she has a pretty prominent nose as well, which a lighter hair color brings less emphasis to the facial features because of the reduced contrast level!
