Dude, seeing TGM come to the Switch and PS4 is a HUGE deal. I've always been interested in TGM since ye old days of watching KevinDDR, Qlex, Kitaru and others doing exhibitions at GDQ, and of course that video of Kevin getting Grand Master rank in Terror Instinct. But the problem with the series was, lack of availability. You couldn't get it on console, the arcade boards are pretty expensive, and if you want to play the games in person, well save up a bunch of money to fly to Japan, or get lucky and find a lone TGM cabinet in the wild. (Side note, I actually did get the chance to play TGM 3 at Ground Kontrol in Portland Oregon...not sure if they have that cab anymore though.) So to see TGM FINALLY getting some love and getting official console rereleases is a big deal, not to mention TGM 2 is coming out on June 1! So Pumped! Heres hoping Hamster releases TGM 3 as well! Great gameplay as well dude!
So awesome... I've been waiting for this moment for literally like 16 years!! Any lag or latency issues with the port? I can't decide if I should buy it on switch or ps4...
ARIKA made a power move by releasing the TGM series for the Switch. I don't play this game, but I have played Tetris games before, so seeing this in action is crazy. Also, nice going on the rank at the end!
It might if it sells well enough. the future of the series depends on this selling well, so please buy a copy even if you don't own one. it's cheap enough. :)
Well that's awesome, now we need is for Nintendo to port Tengen Tetris and OG Tetris on the Switch Via NES online Lineup if anything Arcade Archives can just release the Tengen Version but please Nintendo Release the NES Version already
This is the first time I ever touched TGM and I must say this game makes me violent. I can't even get past grade 5 no matter how hard I try and I been playing it nonstop for a week. I can now totally see why this never came to America back then. I'll just stick with the Nintendo classics.
@@zaphod77 yeah i did play Game Boy Tetris decades ago but the speed of this game is ridiculous. You have to be downright autistic to last long in TGM.
@@dangunheadachron1603 You seem to be unaware of a number of the mechanics. It takes an entire half a second for the piece to stick, no matter how quickly it falls. if you move it over, and the piece goes down a line, this half second timer is reset. It will stick almost instantly on gameboy when the falls peed is as high as it gets there. You also get a half second before every piece even comes in to charge up your autorepeat (and that takes a quarter of a second to do or so). this helps you make sure you can move the piece over fast enough for it to not stick on you. I can see the game getting frustrating if you aren't aware you can actually do this. In this game when it reaches NES kill screen speed, you can keep playing. it ends up falling 20 times faster than that kill screen speed, and you can still keep playing.
I have no idea what version of Tetris this is and so I've been wondering why this is an arcade archives I have an arcade machine labeled Tetris and the gameplay of it reminds me of the version of Tetris that was on the NES for like a month or something before a Nintendo got it pulled from shelves and put out a different version. Look up tegen tetris to see what im talking about. Edit: He keeps aaying NES tetris but he doesn't say if ots the Nintendo or Tegen version.
@@gyroninjamodder so you're telling me that in Japan they had arcade machines that play different versions of Tetris than the standard version? That sounds really cool Wonder why they didn't do that in America?
The TGM series has its roots in Sega Tetris from 1998 (so neither Nintendo or Tengen) That game introduced many new mechanics that differentiated it from the other versions and now define this series. I’d say the comparison between TGM1 and NES Tetris is that it remains a simpler version that’s more focussed on clean stacking and didn’t have the Sonic Drop mechanic added in TGM2 (which completely changes how you play low gravity levels) or additional hold + 3 piece preview system from TGM3 (which completely changes stacking strategy)
Love the series. But the first one pales comparec to the sequels because it hás not got hard drop. Have to play them in emulators (2+ and 3). 2 player modes are amazing. The only online i play hás ir hás lote of strategy
Arika had been busy since TGM Ace with DS/3DS games then Fighting EX Layer and Tetris 99.
I've loved this game for years
I just hope TGM2+ gets a port so I can finally play doubles mode with my friends and have a good laugh about it
It’s finally happening! Now all we need is 3!
@@ky-gp4sz really?
It’s out now!
Great video! I like how informative it is while still being accessible to newer players. I might get the game and go for a GM if I have the time

Do we know if this is coming to other platforms or is this going to stay on just playstation and switch?
I don't have a PlayStation or a Switch. If they released it on Steam, I'd definitely buy it.

Hamster basically ignores that Steam exists, so you probably shouldn't get your hopes up lol.
TGM1: _is released on arcade archives_
players: shut up and take my money
