@@Fazzlack Most likely a defensive fortification, they had plenty the way they're towns we're built like mountain citadels. The angles could be favorable for projectiles, the shape sort of reminds me of 18th century forts that European powers would build.
I was unexpectedly saddened when I visited the Great Wall. Mountains are natural walls, yet idiocy and megalomania sent countless people to their deaths to make something stupid.
"The Great Wall of China is renowned for its astounding 13,171-mile length." The previous statement is from the website The Awsomer. That was the link that brought me here. 13,171 mile long?? No way. NY to Beijing is less than 8,000 miles.
Thats strictly an ego thing. And guaranteed whoever decided to do it never came close to climbing up and down that shit,chipping stone and moving block.
I am dizzy to watch this guy climbing to the top. If one guy climbed up on the 80 degree stairs to the top, how could he come down - from the other side ? In my opinion, the Ming dynasty wasted lots of resources and human lives to build the Great wall in remotes areas where mountains are already the fortress to stop attacks from outside tribes into Mainland

1.000.000 slaves can build insane things, the hard part is keeping them in check and providing food/water.

oh yeah. I have been there too. The tourists parts are in great condition. You would have to walk a long, long way to see the un-restored parts.
