I see Jason lost the bet eh.
It was his turn. Mine next lol 🤷🏼
Nobody else commented about most of Caleb’s lenses “coming in a crusty old sock.” I must have been a lens when I was a teenager. 😂
Hahah 😳😜🥰
Came for the background noise, stayed for the good vibes review. Also, the Portugal-made Leica 28mm f5.6 is worth the price, and it actually has a great quality without being washed out by bright light. It's quite incredible, especially for black and white, the micro-contrast is beautiful.
Damn that’s a good one!!! Thanks for the tip. Glad you stayed for the good vibes 😝
i always appreciate your good vibes. would love to see ya'll do more street stuff!
You got it! I would be into that for sure !!!!
😌
So cool how fast your channel is growing in the last couple of month! And it's really amazing that you are still answering like every comment! Much love and respect!!!
Aw. Thanks so much! I’m very lucky to have really cool subscribers.
I’m definitely glad that people are into the content
These style lenses are so cool looking and I bet they feel great to use! Great video man!
Thanks a ton! It ain’t all that bad :)
Enjoyed the review and you got some nice street shots. Well done, dude! I didn't have a 28mm. Ended up going for the new Voigtlander 28 f 2.8. Images look pretty good on digital and should see film results soon. Keep up the good work.
I might be looking into that new 28 for sure
Awesome, not tried lomo 800 before, will do though after seeing these awesome results.
The lens looks great interesting how it performs and the quirks you found.
Lomo 800 will be your new bffff
Great video as always dude!
Appreciate it! 😘😘😘
Those infinity locks are easy to “deactivate”: Just unscrew the screw at the bottom of the focus button. Nothing to hate here, my friend. :)
No way!? Really???? That’s genius
I like the 26mm on my Canon AF-10, not tight but just a hairs breadth over fisheye territory. Fantastic stuff again Caleb.
Fair enough! That’s cool!!! I like some wide angle shit
You should try the newly released Voigtlander 28mm f 2.8. Sounds like that would be a better lens for the way you shoot. They have that one for M mount and LTM too. I just picked up the LTM for my Leica iiig. I'd be interested to see a comparison between the voigt and the TT.
I thought it was only a pre-release at the moment… Are they on the market?
@@BadFlashes I've been shooting with mine since it arrived from Jo Geier last Monday.
The new lens ?????
@@BadFlashes Yuppers!
I truly enjoy your video presentations 😊

I got one of these lenses March 2022. Shot about 10,000 frames with it between March-December 2022. At the beginning the 5.6 max aperture and the cumbersome+small focus knob made it feel somewhat limiting, then I quickly realized that those were it’s strength and literally point&shooting with it at f8 and focus a hair past 3m mark became quite liberating. I wish they had a focus lock at 3meters. The fact that it is a very small lens made the camera feel better balanced that when using a Ultron, Elmarit or Rokkor 28, even though the lens is very heavy.
I shot it on both film and digital M bodies. I can say that on the digital, for my straight photography, it produced surprisingly great quality, with crisp colors and nice contrast. As per film, not too sure what to say, no complains. I shoot B&W on film and color on digital so with B&W you can use anything as a lens. You could literally burn a whole on your lens cap with your lighter and use at as a lens and still get decent grainy B&W crap.
Didn’t use the lens hood as it felt if t defeated the purpose of it making the camera fit in your hand just as effortlessly as one of those big iPhones would. That meant no need for a strap, and this was even more liberating.
So far it was all nice. Then during a trip in Colombia I noticed that the focus had gotten very stiff. Focus was still fine, it just made it hard to move the knob. You may say, hey there’s your focus lock at any distance. Lol the issue is that I just couldn’t trust it and rely on it, even though it still performed very well during the trip, once back from that trip I went back to my usually favorite Ricoh GR 28mm f2.8 lens.
Wait you have a GR 28mm for your Leica … how do you like it??????????????
@@BadFlashes well, I got it as a set (box, hood, viewfinder, filters, cap) a few years ago as it was a little over $500 from Japan and was hard to pass given that the next cheapest Ricoh was over $700. I ended up liking it a lot. It’s now my go-to 28mm.
I don’t feel like a lot of people know about that lens and I’ve been so on the fence between that and the Leica 28mm f2.8 ahhhhhhh …. Is it a native M mount or is it a screw mount?
@@BadFlashes well, it all depends if you care about size. The GR 28 is literally a pancake lens and is half the size of the Elmarit 28. JPC compares the two in his review of the GR. The one I have is L39, so I use it with an adapter. Imo it is way more special due to the legacy and origin, than any Leica 28mm lens.
Damn. You are making it a bit more tempting to me now.
it does have an odd flaring that happens, but for the price, hard to beat. I replaced the lens hood with a better, round one from Amazon and it helps cut down on the flaring and makes changin aperture easier. But I literally put it on f/8 at 3 feet and have a blast.
Love itttt you might be right, but it’s still so weird where the flaring was at.
Great video Caleb....I'm like that little kid in the black t-shirt...I cannot decide between a Bessa R and an M6.
Thanks! And right… So hard lol
When it comes to Street photography, and apparently this lens & hood combo, zone focusing will be your best friend. The advice I've always heard is to pick where you're going to be shooting and stick to those conditions: go 8-16, set your focus, set your shutter speed, go ham. If the lighting is consistent you shouldn't have any issues, just frame and shoot. If the lighting changes, like if you go from the sunny side to the shady side of the street, quickly adjust and move on. With Street, you're trying to get the shot as quickly as possible, those moments are like lightning but you have to be quicker; best way to have your camera already set for it and you just have to hit the shutter.
Oh totally … that makes sense to me!
I just need to practice
I have been eyeing a 28mm for my Nikon F4. I have a 20mm f2.8 but I feel like a 28 or 35mm would be muchhhh better. Love Lomo800 and need to shoot a roll myself for sure. Great video as always dude and lets get a B&C in Kansas City. :)
KC B&C love this idea!
as a Missouri native I second this!!
Awesome! I was considering this for my M, was curious how this performed, though I hear Voigtlander has a 28mm 2.8 on the way (even though I rarely shoot that open on a 28mm). Anyway, was really digging the music choice around the 7:45 mark, any chance I can get a song/artist ID?
I know … those voigtlander prices are hard to beat…. Might have to get one.
The music is on this site called Trackclub so I’m not sure if it’s a listen type thing … not actually sure 😳
That hair though should have its own channel.😍
My side side hustle 😝
wonderful shot of the suitcase vendor ♥
Ahhhh thanks yo!!!! ✈️❤️🚀
Also nice profile pic dude 😜
Love this lens. I don't shoot 28mm often so did not want to invest a fortune. Got mine new for $225 from a USA dealer. Much of the time I find myself using it at f8 and as you said, everything is in focus. Great point and shoot lens and can be shot from the hip blind or can critically focused as well. for more structured images.
Totally! I really need to give it another go just like that
It’s a banger of a lens for the money. Pairs really well on the M9. Set it to two meters at f8.0 and away you go. There’s a little notch that the two meters marker sits into. Simples.
Oh yeah totally on a digital body. Bangers for sure
@@BadFlashes Brightin Star have just released a similar lens with an f2.8 aperture btw. That could be better for you.
It's funny, only minutes before watching this video (highlight of my every other Thuzzday btw) I finished scripting a video about how I struggle to enjoy shooting 28mm. I've tried. Soo many times, but I guess I'm just a suckah fo teiiight glass y'alls. Or something. But that sure didn't make this episode a less enjoyable watch. Love your stuff man! See ya in two weeks. Well... I'll see You in two weeks. Not the other way around I guess. Lates mates
Hahahah I totally get that. 28mm can be hard sometimes. I’ve just now found it’s love language 😍😍😍
@BadFlashes Yeah I could tell from the video 😁 Happy for ya dude, hopefully I'll get there too some day. Might try tricking myself by getting an ultra-wide so that the 28 will be tight in comparison 😜
I listened to your explanation of the black tshrt and Raiders jacket 4 times. I understood what your saying but could there be a simpler reason that the tshirt is cotton and flat black and the jacket is of a satin like material that's going to be reflective anyway. Or am I just plain nuts
I get that for sure but I’d doesn’t look like a reflect to me. It creeps around other areas of the frame as well and in different shots.
The lines look straight in the shots. Is that straight out of the camera, or is there distortion correction? I’ve seen mirrorless lenses that you can practically make a roundabout from the curved lines.
Naw no fixing. All in camera
Damn man, I´ve spent the last weeks watching all of your and Jasons videos. Now I don´t even know what to do with my time :D
You´re so cool I really wish I could have a beer/coffe/whiskey/cigar with you one day😂
Never say never!!! Someday can happen:)
Glad you enjoyed the videos
@@BadFlashesI hope so! (; You should accompany Jason to Hamburg this September 😂 it’s a beautiful city
Try using this lens on your MDa and scale focus it. Use higher ISO film and let depth of field do the rest. The street photographer's way! Have fun! I scale focus often with my Kodak Retina 1b.
Fuck yeah!!!! That’s the next next for sure
What's even more impressive than that lens, is your use of metric conversion. Grams. As a European, I thank you! ❤
All For you baby 😘
😎@@BadFlashes
Hi Caleb...great video but who is that singing 8 minutes into your video, shazam cant find it, is it Jason?
The music from this episode comes from Track Club
….link in the description 🙌🏼🫶🏼🥳
28mm equivalent lenses are my favourite.
I use a 28 mm f2.8 Cosinon lens on a Pentax K mount camera.
They are so awesome
My literally new 28mm lens as of today is a Vivitar 28mm f1.9 (fmount). Picked up for $33 USD. A royal deal!
That’s hawt !!!!
Man you need to try modern Voigtländers lenses. The 28mm Ultron is reall good and has great colors, like really great!
I’d love to try at some point 🚀
I concur, they have a good build quality and f2 gives a decent bokah.
I like the focus lock on my Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM. But I could live without it. You could probably just take out the screw and it shouldn’t lock anymore. Then you could just use it like a focus tab.
While calibrating sucks, I find it's easier to do through a reverse collimation method using a known infinity focusing camera with a long lens.
That’s smart for sure
I’m using the latest 28 Elmarit-M for travel because it’s so damn small. I am lusting after the Summaron, however.
I heard that Elmarit was dope af tho. I want that one
@@BadFlashes It’s a baller, sans hood, of course.
Got this lens, very good for Flash at night and I def use it without the hood! Rarely leave F8 anyway and I adjust shutter speed for brightness during the day
Also I still have a 28mm elmarit ASPH for sharper 28mm work, I use the TT more for when I’m lazy or using flash
I’m looking into the elemarit …. Which version do you have?????
@@BadFlashes ASPH v2 but completely unnecessary tbh lolol I shoot on M10 mono and MA for film the older models that are $900-$1100 are so sharp even at f4 but on film I’ve used the cheaper one and it’s zero difference. Get the cheapest one you can find in decent condition
Sharpness but what about contrast? Overall, it’s really good to know.🙌🏼
@@BadFlashes yeah the earlier versions are probably a bit if that glowy look wide open, but that V 3 that is preASPH is solid, I didn’t do much shooting below F5.6 tho to be fair
I’m left having to assume the chip on the hood was Jason’s fault - he egged you on to try swallowing the lens with hood…
Love the new sponsor; actually watched all the way thru and froze framed to look at prices 😂
Freestyle is dope!!! Thanks for tuning in and watching. Makes such a difference. And your right. I ate it 😍😂
I have this lens. I think it's an okay lens. F5.6 is indeed too slow. So it would be good for street and landscape phorography only. It 's not as sharp as my other Zeiss Biogon. But definitely I wouldn't spend a fortune on the Leica Summaron either. This TTArtisan might actually be more suitable for digital than film due to its slow aperture.
Totally... 100% on that train
Just push Portra 800 to 3200. There are curves for that in the specs. Didn’t test it that for but it looks great at 1600. Just make sure to meter for the shadows when pushing. You don’t wanna underexpose daylight scenes when pushing. Night is another topic. As per usual. Just shoot wide open at the slowest speed practical.
P800 at all the speeds !!!! Love it sooooooo much
@@BadFlashes Yeah gonna try 3200 at the next fun fair when that’s in town again. But 1600 worked amazingly well. You’re gonna need to take your time to correct out some color cast but it’s all in the neg.
Canon RF lenses have heft to them. Even my lowly 50 mm/f2.8 (which lives on my Canon L1). Pauper's Leica. Keep the Bad Flashes content coming. And the cameras fed with film, light, and street scenery. I am shooting FujiColor 400 like it's going out of style! Killer Soul music in the background! The Spastic Street Phorographer goes Barnack on Steroids.
Aw thanks yo. So glad you are digging the mood of this vid 🥳
The thing is, w/ a max of f/5.6, what if you want to shoot anything abandoned or at night?
I went with a Canon 28/2.8 LTM instead. Almost as small. :-)
Gotta love, a small 28. And yes, 5.6 gonna cut it
I shoot mine at night with digital and it's just fine.
Same color nails as Jason's. Cute :3
Lol BFFS 👯♂️ you know 🤪
nice touch at 13:23!
Hahahahaha glad someone saw it
Freestyle?!? I"m impressed!
Lol. Thanks yo!!!!
Nice! What did you shoot the video with?
Like video camera wise? My Sony with Rokinon lenses
@@BadFlashes I like the mood and feel of your videos. What exact Sony model do you use?
Aw thanks. I’m so glad! I use the Sony a7iv :)
@@BadFlashes I think I saw you once recording on a ZV series camera. How did you like it?
I do have one of those as well. It’s good for the size but doesn’t give the same quality. I use it for times when I want to be lighter where I can just put a camera in my pocket
What’s the thing on the flash shoe, viewfinder?
Yep
love
🥰
Cool!
Sick
I didn’t catch why use a external finder with the m6?
Sometimes it’s nice bc it’s a bit brighter and if you zone focus. I can see it being so fast
My fav street photographer 11:27 blue
🥰🥰🥰
7:54 looks like the place they filmed the beginning of Predator 2
Honestly, I think that was in the 80s so yeah probably was lol
Heavy is the TTArtisans 50mm F1.1 or Canon 50mm F 1.2 LTM. Damn neck rocks.
I know! Got to go to the gym, just holding around our necks
@@BadFlashes 🤣🤣
No it is not my new lens. It belongs to you. Looks nice though I'm happy for you two ❤
Awwww thanks :)
I would have expected you getting the Leica original one; with all that Hollywood VFX money...
Lol I mean …. I’m still frugal in some ways 🤣
If you want a 28mm just get the Ultron II and you’re done.
Yeah I get that 4 sho
I like fast glass. I have the Sigma 28mm f1.4. True, its heavy as a Sherman tank and costs a king's ransom. But so sharp you can shave with it and bokeh till the cows come home. Not my fault that I can't use slow glass. It's a disease with no cure. Yes, I could carry a big strobe. But now the flyweight lens loses its shine for me. But it would be nice on a sunny day.
I get that for sure! 1.4 fo lyfe
Literally waiting at the door for my 28mm😂
Oh nice. Same one or different????
@BadFlashes different, but that one looks interesting
Honestly, daddy Zeiss is the way to go, but not bad for a cheaper lens…I prefer the 35mm f2.8 on the Contax t3. Wish you can see it someday…..that day will probably be when Aerochome comes back….#Contaxt3videowhen? #BringbackKodakAeroChrome…
😋😜😝
I use my Elmarit and Summicron when I shoot film. I use cheap 3rd party Leica lenses on my digital Leica cuz theses cheap lenses has character.
I was thinking of getting a elmarit!!!!!!
@@BadFlashes I have the v3 Elmarit and it’s worth getting. Btw, you guys ain’t street photographers. 🫡
Flaring with the lens hood still on? I can't decide if that's charming or terrible. Many of my favorite lenses are both, though, so...
I’m right there with you!
Nice review and good vibes but your style of shooting is not so much in 28mm for now (IMO). We can see that basically you are generally too far from the subject creating some flat images. Need to enjoy the wide angle effect and be closer to your subject to enhance the scene, otherwise everything looks flat, no real subject (like you said pointless ^^).
Except some pictures like the mannequin for exemple where you enjoy the sens of this kind of lens.
Edit : Typo and modulation
I get that 4 sure.

Large in what way?
Ya.... nice lens but slow. Canon makes a nice EF 28mm lens... at f/1.8. Nice.
yeah exactly .... slow .... ill have to check out that canon 1.8
@@BadFlashes - Thanks. People are saying that the f/1.8 is older and a bit softer than the f/2.8.... Looks Ok to me, but probably the f/2.8 would be sharper(?)
