Game changing innovations I can think of right of the bat.
      Internet
      GPS
      Photoshop
      MP3
      3D printing
      Smartphone
      WiFi
      Flatscreen
      Netflix
      eBook Reader
      Ancestry DNA
      (Military) Drones
      Google Search
There may even be more. And of course the importance of some could be argued. But still. Looking back at the last 20 years there were many mindblowing innovations. Just because people got used to them so fast and easy doesn't mean they weren't game changing.
Maybe what you mean't was that a niche thing got an innovation from a simple man in his homeshed that would have revolutionized everything 800 years ago. Ya I go for it.
Instant Legolas is brilliant. I don't wanna downplay Jörgs innovation. But to say that we rarely see game changing innovations is absolutely wrong in my book. You just got used to them very fast.

I'd wrap that section of the string with a wire and attach a weak magnet to it somewhere safe, it's work like picking up a chain of paperclips.

@ren bao When the projectile bounces off the target and flies in other directions. Lead projectiles deform and lose most of their energy so they just fall down after hitting the target. @@bookofrevelation4924 I'm sure there are some steel balls out there with a rubber coating but to be honest the ricocheting doesn't really matter most of the time. If you're shooting that close to a neighbour's property in the UK, you're likely to get a swift visit from a police firearms unit. They do not take kindly to bows being fired in gardens near to other people, and treat use of such weapons the same as firearms. You are very likely to end up in court on a firearms charge for endangering the life of others. Just don't even think about it, unless you have a garden the size of Jourg's.

I just love that you made it the instant legolas public domain!
It just gives other creative people the opportunity to build up on your concept.
The last revolutionary thing in archery (at least from what heard of) was the reverse draw crossbow. But that pattent is so heavily protected by it's owners that it's pretty much a dead project because they themselves made maybe 3 models and nobody else is allowed to even remotely use the design.

    • @imvisier9925
      @imvisier9925 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Making the design public domain serves no purpose other than to give a chance to every grifter to copy and try to undersell the original designer. Really a very myopic business decision on Joerg's part. Patenting a concept only protects it for commercial purposes, and only within the bounds to which it is presented, so therefore nothing would stop anyone making their own, or making a free to download copy, nor would it stop anyone building on it with novel features, and selling improvements either, were a patent for the device to be in place. In fact, were it to be in place, Joerg could even allow others to use the design commercially after vetting, while still retaining the right to protect against grifters.

Compoundbow strings use already dyneema or a mixture of dyneema and some other matrial to make them stronger and stretch less. Stringmakers normaly rate them for 10.000 shots. You might have to redo the centerserving more often if you use it with a Fenris.
The turning of the cams has to be times right, so the cables and string need to be the right size or it will not shoot straight.
With his splicing you have to be careful not to make that part of the sting to thick so it jumps from the cams.
A compoudstring normally is pretwisted and pretentioned before it is mounted (stretched with around 300 pounds).
Professional shooters change their strings maybe once a year, a hobbyshooter maybe every few years.
Just check your servings from time to time, and maybe redo a wornout centerserving.
Checked the string on my bow (70 pounds max). Under tension it is around 2mm and maybe 2.5 where it is served. So the strings he used would be to thick. There is not much room in the cams to fit a thicker string.

I'd not even think about ordering this in the UK. It has no legitimate, recognised sporting competitive outlet and is very likely to be classified as a weapon and confiscated on its way into the country if it's detected by customs. Which is probably why they're going missing in transit.
Unless you've access to a large, private piece of land, such as Joerg's garden, you can't use it safely and with legitimate intent anywhere in the UK without breaking firearms laws, which are some of the strictest in the world. The police prosecute every time when they're violated, they take it VERY seriously. You can't even openly carry a bow here on the streets unless it's in a case, even as a member of legitimate archery club. Even in a case, you should never carry one with arrows as it could be construed as being ready to use.
Just don't even think about it, it's a deadly weapon, not a fun toy, and will be treated as such by the UK courts. Joerg's a professional, who knows what he's doing, has a legitimate reason for owning one of these, has a very large garden, and is based in Germany, where firearms and weapons laws are different to those in the UK. You've not got any of those reasons to fall back on, and being convicted on any weapons or firearms charge will change your life for the worst.

That's really cool it being universal. A bit pricey though, you can buy a Chinese compound bow at that price. Though this is Taiwanese quality so maybe that's a safer bet.

Something else simple(?) you could do would be to add a funnel or guide around the loading gate for the magazine to speed up reloading.
You could also probably make some kind of a speed loader too for that matter. Have a tube long enough to hold ten balls with one end sealed and one end that opens.
Come to think of it, maybe they make something similar for paintball guns. Those ball bearings look about the same size as typical paintballs.

it would be interesting to modify the loading mechanism such that you could fill a reusable fabric or plastic net tube with the steel balls, insert that all at once in the tube from the top or side, then pull the tube out of the magazine via a tab at he rear, leaving the balls in the magazine. acting as a speed loader. also be nice if capacity were more than ten.

You shouldn’t be shooting a bow at half draw or risk breaking it.

@@dylanzrim3635 not every bow will break so easy.
If you are in a scenario where you need to take shots at a distant target,
AND you may be ambushed at close range at any moment,
than having a melee weapon at the ready is obviously a good idea.
Mounting a blade on your bow(not to the limbs) serves to subtract the time it takes for your hand to travel to your weapon.
If you are being attacked by surprise, every split second counts.
One of my ideas is to basically have a one handed batleth built into the handle.

What about making the strings bigger where it pushes the ball? Maybe a little tape to make it larger and not as "smooth" against the ball. I am sure you could do it yourself Master Joerg. No need for the Chinese....
