That's a great question and the answer can be very, very long, but to keep it in short - in the frame, Helena is seen leaving the scene (or sort of, being sent off by her mother) with two men, whom we've possibly/probably seen before. The idea here is that this is symbolic of the cycle of abuse - just like her mother, and her mother, and so many women really, Helena now belongs to the elite. This IS technically only a theory, a very complicated one, but also a highly supported one that links a lot of the themes and little easter eggs Kubrick places throughout the film. somewhat disagree that pearl is a great film because of the details. lots of movies flopped despite being very detailed. i find that what makes pearl stand out is that it actually goes beyond the details and is a heavily modern meta horror. the details are used not so much as a tool but more as the base palette of the movie itself, with the resulting picture as more or less an interesting deconstruction of modern horror and modern film language. it's hard to appreciate pearl in its entirety without seeing it as, again, a very modern meta horror. it goes way beyond just the usage to details as tools, the way movies like fight club could be considered exemplars of details as tools.
Bro, watch some international stuff other than from us and uk. I like your video but let’s widen our palette of possibilities a bit even if it might not be what the algorithm deems us to praise. I think it’s both an act of courage and defiance to shine your spotlight and create as well as ours as audience to seek out and consume. Love your channel keep it going brother.
Hey! Thank you for the kind words! It's a fair thought - I'd be lying if I said I don't lean towards essays on more consumable or well-known films/series, so I might think on expanding and making an essay on a more niche topic now and then :)
@@lookasidefilms6614 It’s a beautiful looking film but I almost felt like I was being taunted or trolled by David Lowery. No payoffs or suspense, really. Also the trailer completely misrepresented the film. I much prefer The Lighthouse, The VVitch, Uncut Gems, and The Green room!
@@JohnnyWordSmith That's fair! I actually prefer all those films as well probably, but love Lowery as well. Green Knight was definitely different than what I thought, but A Ghost Story is incredible in my opinion.
i strongly disagree with the fly episode. if you look at the episode alone, extract it from the series, it is a great metaphor for his situation. However, we cant do that. it is a part of the series and as such the episode gives us nothing new, nothing we did not know already. you can literally skip it withou losing anything.
Thank you for your comment. I get that - 'Fly' isn't for everyone, but I think a series can and should break up the narrative and explore different storytelling methods. It might not give us anything new, but the perspective is new, and that's sometimes enough for great TV. But again - 'Fly' IS the most loved/hated 'Breaking Bad' episode, so to each their own!
