Bullying because of being obese is very shallow, and the person can actually be trying to lose weight. That said, most people who are overweight and especially obese are in that state because of overeating. It's extremely unhealthy to be obese, and one should be losing weight in that situation. Obese individuals should be encouraged to lose weight, and not bullied for it. Some people find either treatment motivating to lose weight. Also, if one doesn't find someone physically attractive because one is obese, then that's valid. Looking to that person's mom to see how she will be in the future is valid, too, as that's referring to the genetic likelihood of gaining weight in the future.

My sister is more on the overweight spectrum. Thankfully she was never bullied. She knows how to make friends and socialize, and she does not easily show her insecurities. But back then, two of her friends would make unpleasant remark about her body once in a while, and when that happened she couldn't get it off her mind for days. She would constantly talk about it at home, which frustrated me. So if such words alone can hurt so much, imagine the long term effect bullies have on their victim.

@rambunctiousvegetable i agree, as in you work hard to keep fit and healthy in this case you deserve to 'reap the benefits'. But what about people who have been naturally born pretty and now receive special treatment because of society. in my opinion everyone should be treated equally no matter who they are, what they look like what their race is, however, people who put in the effort to be fit deserve to see the benefits of it, that is only fair.

    • @HereIAm247
      @HereIAm247 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

@@RealSweetlakecity Popularity is not looks alone. They are a major component of course. But the popular people don't usually have that much 'better' genetics than the other people. What they do have, is knowledge of how to enhance what they have, and look their best. How to present themselves, and carry themselves. They have a certain personality with good social skills, and an ability to form good connections with other high status people. Their looks are a visual representation, but it is their personality and social abilities that really gets them there.
What their beauty insinuates, is that this is a person with both mental and physical resources to contribute with. Being able to take care of your self, and thereby also others, and be someone who can enrich a relationship (friendly or romantic), instead of being a 'burden'. It is actually a very interesting area to explore and understand. But many people are not interested in understanding it fully, as it is easier to just believe that 'there is nothing I can do about it, all popular people are evil, so I choose to do nothing'.

As someone who was slim before and gained a lot of weight due to medication for my disability, I clearly feel the difference between the me before and the me now. I have a dietitian so it's not a diet issue but people still think you're lazy and eat junk food all the time. Dating was easy before because I was considered "attractive" due to my body type, now I'm afraid to even try. It's hard to find clothes who fit, if you wear comfortable clothes, people think you don't take care of yourself while it was "cute"/"trendy" when I was slim because of the boyfriend clothes look. And of course the health issues are real and scary.. I could go on and on about this issue. But I can't stop taking my medication even with the terrible side effects. There are a lot of reasons for people to be overweight but people will judge you automatically and slap a label on you just because of your size. Personality matters of course, but the label will always be there.

I was a quiet, but friendly, loner who'd spend as much time reading as I could whenever I had any free time. I was really socially inept and was better at listening than explaining myself. I had a few friends of course, but none that seemed to last after highschool.
Recently I found out that I may have come off as "weird," due to possibly being high functioning autistic and/or maybe having brain damage due to nuchal cord.
Probably still considered a weirdo, but I have learned how to be more socially involved and I have stable friendships that I developed in college.

I used to weigh 355 pounds and I know exactly how it feels to wear that fat suit only I couldn’t take it off , my home was filled with abuse verbal and physical and at school I was bullied. When I went to my 20 year high school reunion with my husband who also went to school with me I had went from a size 26/28 to a size 5 and the guys who were hot in high school were now overweight and bald and the girls who were skinny and popular were overweight and had faces full of wrinkles. I looked nothing like them . My husband and I looked around at the popular group and laughed because they still hadn’t changed on the inside and finally their outside matched their inside. I learned that people who peak in high school don’t peak in real life and all of that made me so much stronger. Keep your head up, your going to make it high school is only a second of your life.

This movie is a little bit older than me, so maybe that's the reason. Bur for real: being fat was never a big deal in my surroundings. And I don't mean that I belonged to "nice" groups, I mean that I saw a lot of fat people hanging around popular kids (of which I was never a part of) with no problem. Yes, *sometimes* you could hear a specific comments from specific people, and it's not like over-weight teens were oftenly asked-out, but through 12 years of school I don't remember people being bullied and ostracized for that reason. At least not in general.

I agree with you. My sister is somewhat overweight, and she does get specific comment from one or two from time to time, but I'm just glad she never experienced any actual bullying and is friends with many.
It all depends on the environment and the people in it, but based from what Ive seen and what Ive heard from people around me, I dont think this bullying case happens often. Like you said, i also see some fat kids sometimes hang out with the popular kids.
The closest thing to bullying that ive seen is that quiet kid who no one wants in their group but its either because the kid withdraws themselves from the class because they feel incompatible with the majority, or because they are socially inept.

This reminds me of how often I get called fat in high school (classmates or even family members) even though my weight is suitable for my height (considered tallest girl in class) and I mostly ignore it in school and smile it away with family but its actually a really terrible feeling especially in school. Imagine people talking behind your backs for being "fat" also judging my character at the same time like I barely even talked to most of them & I honestly must say that they suck at trying to hide what they think about me cuz I heard it all (my father's a police officer btw so most don't openly bully but occasional slips of their thoughts to your face) I remember how hard it is to work on group projects with people I'm not friends with, I always get treated like the dumb person who couldn't understand so they decide its useless to give me work then they do it on their own without informing me and eventually finding out that I wasn't able to do any help because they didn't tell me their plans (I openly expressed my will to help even), the worst part was my name not written in the final project because as they say "I didn't help" but in truth they just left me in the dark while I try to contact them and was ignored (like I legit approach our leader to give me a task to do and she'd dismiss me by saying "we'll talk about it later" which never happened when I was there) they found ways to discuss and work on their own without me. That was legit the most terrible experience I had in high school that involves my grades & I had a lot of terrible experiences but I remember how heartbroken I was for recieving zero on that project...
Yeah so just sharing my terrible high school experience as someone considered fat according to other's standards.

How about you tape a bouncy ball around your belly, pretend to be pregnant, and maybe dance around a little, that might be fun.

This movie is a good reason why it’s stupid to hate a person because they’re a person

I'd like to see a movie like this where it's a man pretending to be fat. And also where the attractive people aren't implied to be bad at school or dumb.

Bullies will always be bullies regardless how good you are to them. I met a 30+ bully at job it was awfull job experience that made me quit the job.
