The whole Ian Gibbons story really, extremely touched and broke my heart. The actor, Stephen Fry that brought Ian Gibbons to life in this role did such a great job. In Memory of Ian Gibbons. God Bless Ian Gibbons.
@@Msptomb Stephen Fry is not ''depressed'', he suffers from bipolar disorder. That's not the same. Those of us who have major or bipolar are not just ''depressed'', we have legitimate illness.
I read “Bad Blood” by John Carreyrou. There was a whole chapter dedicated to Mr. Gibbons. He was a man of integrity and service. He only wanted to do good things in this world. Elizabeth broke him and she will have to live with that the rest of her life.
She is not sorry for anything. She wouldn't understand the word remorse if it was tattooed on her forehead. Her and Sonny just better thank their stars that none of the people they treated like dirt didn't beat the tar out of them.
Honestly she needs to be jail. People doing petty crimes go to jail for a longer time. She screwed with peoples lives, their health, their minds, their careers and lied left and right. Honestly she has no remorse for what she did.
@@mathaimannanal1652 yeah I would say Elizabeth Holmes is very unrepresentative of women as a whole. Research tells us they have far more empathy, but every once in awhile you get an outlier like Elizabeth Holmes. The only thing I would say is that she got away with what she was doing for so long because she was a woman and people implicitly trusted her in a way that they never would have trusted a male.
I didn't know about Ian Gibbons prior to watching the show and wow. When I found out what happened, I literally stopped the episode to google it and sit in silence for a bit. I had no idea that this shit really happened. Elizabeth Holmes is a fucking monster.
This is such an amazing cast. The thing is only Amanda Seyfried is getting nominated for the awards. The entire cast is wonderful. It honestly baffles me why Naveen Andrews hasn’t been recognized, in particular.
Amanda's acting here is terrifyingly good! The way she can showcase being offended yet looking scary and threatening and angry at the same with that scary look when she said "I understand exactly what i'm doing!"
This hurts. If you’ve even been used by a narcissist. This is what they do. And they will do anything to kill you or get you out of the picture so their image remains clean while they brand you a nut. It’s crazy how Elizabeth Holmes doesn’t care about being the cause of the death of a man who had a family and was someone’s child who grew up with dreams like her.
His story was the one that most affected me in the whole saga. Her fraud affected things way more valuable than money, it affected people. RIP, Dr. Gibbons, you deserved better.
He did not ''have to'', wtf. Also, this was bad but not the ''worst scam in history''. Do you know how many ponzi schemes and scams have existed and will exist? Don't throw such words around.
I know she wanted to be the next Steve Jobs, but tech and medicine are two completely different fields. You don’t need a degree to learn how to code or program. However, you do need years of study and practice in the field of science and medicine to know how the human body works. This isn’t something you can fake. There are no shortcuts when it comes to dealing with someone’s health.
The issue is that she tried to jump the gun, significantly so, and the show makes no attempt to hide it. It was good to have ambition, but so long as it was an end goal, something you work towards, and this just wasn’t the case with her.
I just watched the entire series of the dropout. Ian's character is trying to make Elizabeth see that if she continues down this road it's going to hurt a lot of people. Elizabeth doesn't care about who she hurt as long as she has her vision her dream achieved and she was willing to sacrifice anyone to get to it.
Another thing that I noticed in the series is that Elizabeth's homes wanted it all. She wanted to be rich she wanted the prestige she wanted to have private planes to fly in fancy clothes to wear hobnobbing with the rich and late without actually having to do any of the work. She just saw her company is a stepping stone to better things she didn't really actually care about her clients or the shareholders.
Elizabeth: “You don’t understand the business.” Ian: “And you don’t understand the science. You don’t understand the implications of what you are doing.” Elizabeth: “I know exactly what I’m doing.” Me: Yup
Good to remember that this was right after the 2008 financial crisis and people were struggling, it was a very hard time to find a job and people with jobs were very nervous to lose them
Elizabeth: We don’t share the same vision anymore. That sounds exactly like what Ashton Kutcher said in his Steve Jobs movie. It’s like Elizabeth is just aping Steve’s mannerisms, style & words without any sincerity or character to back it up.
the line / delivery of "I understand exactly what I'm doing"... so good. & his subtle reaction, realizing she's telling the truth, that she knows this is all a con... this was a great show
Nah. That was a Federal case, and as such they are bound to following Federal guidelines. They actually have a point system in which her convictions place her firmly looking at the very least...a 15-20 year bid...and there is no concept of parole in Federal cases. She would have likely got hit with no more than 5 if she had plead out.
@@Skvll-gt5ec What is it about the simple concept of that Federal Convictions require sentencing guidelines to be followed with no exceptions are you having trouble processing ?
She is filled with so much hubris, that made her completely blind to see her own mistakes. She took that guy's valid criticism as a attack on her vision. But smart person always consider valid criticism if it makes sense irrespective of where it comes from or what the hell you are.
She’s the reason this man killed himself. There was some deep shit goin on in this company that we don’t know about. Had to been pretty bad for him to take his life.
In real life he was worried that if he testified against Theranos he would lose his job. He needed the job for the health insurance since he had cancer.

A man who was way stronger than her and more knowledgeable in real science but broke him down due to her child like ways thinking she knew anything and she didn’t. I feel terrible for Mr. Gibbons family.
Stephen Fry did a wonderful job at making me feel bad for Ian Gibbons. He really didn’t deserve what Theranos did to him. He was one of the first people to see just how terrible Theranos’ actions were and he got punished for trying to do the right thing.
