My best mate's boyfriend works for Eddie Stobart (Crick) & he gets paid bloody well! I love the fact the lorries are named mainly now to do with something personal to the drivers.
They even have the TV show called "Truckers" all about Stobarts on every week in Australia where I live. It's interesting, sure is a lot different to our kind of work.
just to clear a few things up here.... there is a police escort because when you have 19 lorries coming into a roundabout or turnoff, therwould be absolute traffic mayhem if one of them had to stop, its called the shockwave effect, look it up on here. .
When I drove for Mike Ashley & his company "Sports Soccer/World" we drove a 16 truck convoy to Newcastle with the complete stock for the New Super Store, the excitment soon became boardom driving in convoys isn't as fun it looks
I drove in a three truck convoy London to Venice the trucks were mis matched in pulling power. Mine was a 5 ton Fiat fitted out as a kitchen. A TK Bedford also a kitchen with a trailing axle and a TK fridge truck empty. The TK kitchen and me in the Fiat had to continual leap frog one another to main a decent average speed up hill and on the flat. All done safely and the overtaken flashing the other guy in. we had a ferry to meet in Venice but only the date and not the time. This was for the Bond Film The Spy Who Loved Me and we were enroute to Egypt. What an adventure.
yes yes I remember the story now, the fifth truck from the convoy had Rambo in it and rest was carrying his weapons, thats why all the cop cars...Dang it man
and another thing, its not taxpayers money, its whoever owns the lorries is paying for it... yes, believe it or not, you can hire the police. my friend works for a company that contrsucts windmills and when the different sections are being transported to the site they have to "hire" the police... hope that helped a few people settle themselves from getting all worked up..
It's nice to see a British company still have trucks on the road with the government making it so hard for them, thats why we see so many foreign companies on our motorways, cheaper to hire from abroad than home, sickening

STOP PRESS.. Spotters sent into a wanking frenzy on a M6 bridge. Mr Stobart absolutley denys any wrong doing, Claiming " We were only heading South for a job" . Spotters leader says " OMG,, How irressponsible was that ? , sending that many wagons out in convoy, He shoulda known we were on bridges surrounding Carlisle, totally irresponsible!" Cumbria County Council say the clean up operation will take 4 weeks at a cost of 2million. A spokesman said " Cum welds to the road in mid autum" ..
That"s what i thought, wasn"t quite sure. Does that mean there ain"t no Eddie Stobart anymore. I was in the Industry for 20 years, Glad to be out of it now though.

no, the 1st lorry is a container with a GIFT on it, going to Whitehaven Harbour. The GIFT is for Whitehaven & will not be open until next year
