I have always naturally disliked raw vegetables, but loved cooked veggies. Everyone said I was being unhealthy and I would just force myself to eat raw veggies and I haven't been enjoying eating for over 10 years. I have digestion issues and I am so happy to know I should stop forcing myself to eat stuff I don't want to. Thank you!
I know what you mean! When I was a child there were foods that I liked the taste of, but never liked eating cold. Ice cream was one that I only light warm. I would set a bowl of ice cream ina recently turned off oven and leave it there until it warmed up. My mom would say, that’s just the way she likes it, strange or not! We had no knowledge of Ayurveda at that time. And now I see that my nine-year- old grandson just naturally tends towards vata pacifying foods. The other day for lunch I gave him a salmon, pasta salad and a bowl of hot soup. We sat down to eat, and he said, grandma, I don’t like the cold salad, so I poured the soup over it and it is really good now! LOL
After I went crazy for the past few years with IF and attempting Keto diet (always cheated and always failed overall) I suddenly decided to just go back to just eating moderately and a few times a day. The anxiety went away, the gorging on big meals while trying to fit them with fasting and obsession with eating went again. I suddenly reverted to being calm and cool about food again. And this really helps to continue this way of eating. Thank you.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching and commenting with your own personal story! We're so happy to hear that following a vata balancing diet has been helping you. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions! 🌱
Wonderful video. I have been actively INCREASING my Vata for most of my life, riding a wave of adrenaline through most of my days. Unsurprisingly, this has left me as an unbalanced energetic mess! It is remarkable that the foods listed are already most of my very favorite foods. I know plan to be more intentional with my diet, and more importantly, my breathwork and activity regimen to help balance my Vata. Thank you for the valuable information.
This is an awesome video! Thank you! I really appreciate how you started out with the first two tips of being proud of any small changes and not stressing so much on perfection
Just listening to this makes me feel rejuvenated and grouded. I was trying to practice plant based food. I used to feel anxious and I kindof feel that I now know the reason
Glad to see the world is keeping itself healthy by following the Indian Ayurveda routine. Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are Indian Ayurveda terminology. Thanks, Banyan Botanicals for sharing this wonderful information. Proud Indian. As a Indian Hindu girl, I feel very bad, Hindus gave Meditation, Ayurveda, Vedic Astrology and Yoga to entire world...Everyone is highly benefitting from our rich information but western people behave so badly with Indian, do racism...Does India deserves this behave???
Hello human. It doesn’t matter your race but your way of looking at the world is through the lens of hatred and victimhood. It’s ironic that you have this mind when you are complaining and stereotyping western people who want to enjoy Indian practices like these which are designed to foster better mental health, loving kindness and inner peace. It sounds like you’re missing the point of these practices yourself.
Sadly, us Western folk have a horrible education system and very closed off views. It's not all of us though, there are plenty of good eggs as well. I wish you all the best.
We're all the same people, everything people do is made by people for people, not by Indians or Chinese or Europeans or Africans, and we should similarly treat all people equally. I'm not sure it's good to imply that our worth has anything with to do with some group separation, and "proud nationalism" is precisely what makes people look down on people from "the other" made up group. A similarly proud white European Christian is the one who's more likely to place Indians below themselves, and expect praise from Indians for every single piece of Western knowledge and Western science and Western technology that India uses. And they will be proud of Western achievements, not Indian ones. Nationalism similar to your own is what creates the interactions you don't like, and promoting it and being proud of it makes the interactions you don't like more likely Only if we start being proud of our humanity instead of some tribe can we truly praise and appreciate each other
As someone else in the comments said, it's astonishing how many of these foods are my favorite foods and textures (especially smooth, soft and saucy)! Thank you for this video and for the detailed posts on your website, they're very helpful!
Same for me.... all the foods I'm drawn to and instinctively know are best for my stomach... yet for years I've been making myself eat other foods! And paying for it. I've never enjoyed cold leftovers or loads of raw food. Soft cooked veges feel wonderful for me.
Interesting. ..many of the foods suggested to steer clear of are the ones I try to eat more of. Thank goodness for the information contained in your videos. Looking forward to egg and toast, soups and stews again.
Your voice is so relaxing since I was sick of diets I was just passing by but your voice lulled me. I will be more compassionete with myself and listen to my body if it reacts or reflects with Vata dosha :)
This video was very informational and inspires me to learn more about Ayurvedic life style practice of wellness. Your voice is so pleasant and soothing. Thank you for all this information - look forward to applying these tips to my daily practice
Planet Ayurveda ke Pitta Balance ne mere pitta dosha ko balance kar diya hai! Ab mere skin aur hair bhi saaf aur healthy lagte hain. Ayurvedic nuskhe ko follow karne se asli mein faayda hota hai.
I tried in my life :vegetarian diet for 4 years ,vegan and alkaline for 3 years( few times) I got back to shitty diet (life and bad habits) but now is time for Ayurvedic diet witch I always wanted to experiment with.Thank you for video !
A few examples of what Vata pacifying spices would be, would be helpful. I'm hearing you mention them often in this video, but I'm clueless what these spices are. But still I liked the video very much! Finally someone explained what stringent means! Thank you
Thanks for tuning in! We are glad you enjoyed this video, here is a link to an article on a Vata-Balancing Diet www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-diet/
Thanks for the helpful information. I recently listened to Deepak Chopra who recommend sesame oil, not sure if he was referring to it as part of the vata diet.
Aha! Thank God, I was just suspecting that although radical food combining rules say to start with fruit, move on to starch, and end with animal protein or nut butters, I felt and noticed that I would do better following the opposite, as a vata, exactly as you have outlined here, beginning with eggs or chicken and ending with moderate carbs like sweet potatoes. I tried having the yogurt at night, and my nails literally fell apart. Switched the fatty protein like yogurt back to the morning, and my nails became hard as rocks again. I'm so vata (I guess an albino one since some say vatas are usually brown, but I think the skin color is not the most important aspect (as in life, lol)! So thank you!
I am Vata dosha: very dry and cold. Eating wheat bread can quickly cause me flu or sinusitis, and I avoid dry stuff and beans. Lentils actually make me bleed. The weird thing though is that it seems corn tortillas don't seem to do anything bad to me. Why is that? I'm Mexican, corn tortillas are a staple of my diet. Should I avoid them?
No meat is mentioned at all. Would a lamb stew with accepted veggies be okay. (Carrots, Green beans, parsnips, squash?) I am Gluten and Soy Free. I love making a soup with sweet potato, some organic pureed pumpkin (does come in a can), and butternut squash and then with coconut milk blend all together with spices suggested. Add some Ghee at end. This is a really excellent video.....Thank you so much....
That sounds delicious! While for the most part Ayurvedic diets are vegetarian, there are several meats that are grounding and pacifying for the Doshas. For Vata, the meats to favor are those that are nourishing, sweet, moist, and relatively easy to digest. Lamb is quite dry and lean, so may not be suited for Vata-type digestion. For a full list of those to favor and avoid, check out our Vata pacifying foods list www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-foods/
Great question! Coconut oil is often used in place of ghee, and certain plant-based sources of protein are encouraged for vegans looking to pacify vata dosha. For more tips, check out this article from our website about veganism in Ayurveda: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/blog-the-banyan-insight/details/ayurveda-for-vegans-the-perfect-vegan-kitchari-recipe/
You're so welcome! We're glad to hear that our video was helpful for you. As for raisins, they are fine for the vata dosha as long as they are soaked or cooked. For example, adding raisins with ghee to oatmeal can help counteract the dry quality that can aggravate vata. Dry raisins, however, are not recommended for vata. Here is a link with more information about vata balancing foods that you might find useful: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-foods/
That is very helpful, thank you. I'm struggling with vata-related MS, so I'm quite desperate to heal, and i just want to say you're so good and you really care, little recognition and lot's of love sending your way
Thank you! Amazing information... which saute vegetables do you recommend for Vata? I always have kale, broccoli and coliflower but after watching this I think I need other suggestions. I am allergy to zucchini and pumpkin
HI! Good video :) You recommend root vegetables. I read in one book that root veggies are not recommended for Vata. But in the same book they do recommend carrots, parsnips etc. What are your recommendations? I get no issues from eating root vegetables cooked, quite the opposite; it feels good :) I also don't understand that warm spices are both recommended and avoided, how come? Thanks
Thanks, Graleh! We’re not sure which book you’re referring to, but at Banyan we consider root vegetables to be especially beneficial to vata, in part because they grow underground. It is thought that their deep connection to the earth makes them more grounding and stabilizing for the vata dosha. Cooking them makes them even better for vata by introducing the warm element to counteract vata’s coldness. Plus, if they’re already helping you feel good, we encourage you to keep doing what you’re doing! As for warm spices, the key there is to focus on spices that are warm in energy rather than hot. Spices that are too hot, such as cayenne or chili powder, can be energetically drying and therefore can aggravate vata. We recommend referring to this page for more information: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-foods/
@@banyanbotanicals Most roots cause aggravation of Vata. It's better not to take them. There's no conc3pt in Ayurveda that roots are more 'rooted'. Haha.funny
Very informative & helpful....crisp Detailed video. Thankyou very much. & yes, your voice is very sweet...& your aura also seems very positive. Hare krishna!!
Thanks for asking! We recommend sticking to consistent mealtimes every day to help keep vata grounded. 🙂 As for the content of those meals, you do not have to eat the same thing every day. Here are some ideas for vata balancing food options you can experiment with: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-foods/
Thanks for making the this video May I also ask you about what can I do with eating banana so it digests easily ? It used to cause constipation to me and I stopped eating it
Hi Very happy with all the shared information. Thank you very much. Have a quick question though- Can the almond milk be consumed on regular basis by vata - pitta prakriti combination?
You’re welcome! Almond milk is considered balancing for vata and pitta doshas, so it is a good choice indeed for many people with that prakriti. We actually just released a video about making almond milk at home that you might enjoy. th-cam.com/video/1iorZyvx348/w-d-xo.html
I'm in a unique position where the antidepressants I started taking a few years ago totally changed my body and in determining my dosha I'm not sure whether I should go by how my body naturally is/was or how it is now. I was skinny, bony, dry, energetic, and absolutely craved the heat growing up-very Pitta. Then my medication made me gain 60lbs+ over the course of a year and that did a number of things, like lowering my testosterone, causing me to feel overheated very easily, and obviously I'm not bony anymore, but my bones are still prone to crack and things like that. Any insights would be helpful!
I was in a very similar position about 2 years ago. I had to do a colon cleanse while practicing the new way of eating, grounding, etc. Fast forward to now, I feel like my old self. Well better actually. I no longer have that bloated feeling, constipation, brain fog, etc. Start with the cleanse. That's what I was told to do and in less than 2 weeks I started to feel the difference. Apparently, the inflammation from medication and the incorrect foods I was eating had to be flushed out of my body first.
Hi Greg! Thank you for reaching out. If you haven't already, I would highly suggest taking our Dosha Quiz. www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/dosha-quiz/ The quiz starts out by determining your constitution, which you would answer based off the time in your life when you were your most healthiest. The second part is determining any current imbalances. While we can't speak to antidepressants due to FDA regulation, there very well could be imbalances at play in your body. The quiz will offer suggestions on how to bring yourself back to balance based off your results. Please let us know if you have any other questions! You can always email info@banyanbotanicals.com 💚
Here is a helpful resource you might find supportive. www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/health-guides/the-channel-of-the-mind/
Cheese and dairy is generally quite balancing for vata, but you want to avoid cold or highly processed cheeses. Vata benefits from the warm, moist, smooth and oily qualities of cheese. You can find more out about vata balancing foods here: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-foods/
Greetings, thank you for such an informative video. I was curious to know the relation of freshly harvested and juiced [unpasteurized] coconut water, coconut jelly and coconut milk (water/jelly only) is to a vata pacifying diet. Thank you.
Great question, Ovi! And it depends. Coconut is considered light, sweet, and cooling. It is oily and smooth and can relieve vata for some, however it really depends on the person. We recommend examining what your primary goals are and begin with supporting those goals. As you start to find balance within your primary focus areas, you can add in/try other foods over time and assess how you feel. For detailed advice and direction, we recommend working with an Ayurvedic Practitioner.
Thank u I appreciate all the information! One suggestion, instead of rushing through the information as you're reading it, it would be nice if you could slow down. Thank you 💝
Thank you for your suggestion! We have a written guide that you may find helpful if you wanted to spend more time with the material. Check it out here: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-diet/
If I start working on system for some time, I get join pains in my finger joint especially index finger...pain and uncomfort on hands...please suggest solution......my body is already pitta type as I take seasme seeds, raggi my body gers heated up and top of it, I have vatta dosha seems to be...both are making my life abnormal...I started taking ashwagandha but it was increasing heat in the body making problems worst
Great question! It can help to know both your Ayurvedic constitution as well as your Agni, or digestive fire, type. You can take our Agni quiz to determine which food list may be more supportive for your digestive fire www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/blog-the-banyan-insight/details/agni-quiz/
Can you eat cooked steamed broccoli ? If you are Vata iregular I’m trying to lose weight so I tried limiting bread doing low carb but idk what to eat I mainly eat cooked carrots chicken and lately salad cause idk what to eat
Great question! You may want to check out our Vata pacifying foods guide www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-foods/
Yes! Most if not all of the recipes in this video are currently featured on our Vata Dosha Diet page: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-diet/
It would be very difficult for me to avoid most of the vegetables that are listed in the red boxes... Can one mitigate the vata aggravation caused by these by heating, pureeing, seasoning or anything else? Like, a cauliflower - if pureed into soup mixed with ghee, yoghurt and spices, would that be considered better (or even good) for vata, or is it still a nono?
Great question! Every body is going to respond differently, so trying approaches like the one mentioned above may work well for your digestion. You may find our Vata pacifying foods article helpful as well, www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-foods/
Hello i know this is not recent but I hope u can help I am interested in Ayurveda I mean to include it in my life but without having to change a family tradition I am a vata ( took the test) but I am raw vegan since burn so as my family how can I incorporate Ayurveda in this diet
Here is information about balancing vata through diet, herbals, and lifestyle recommendations: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/learning-ayurveda/balancing-vata/
It's quite difficult to get any fresh organic veggies for vata here, so when push comes to shove: would you recommend for example non organic fresh or organic, but frozen green beans or spinach to balance out excessive vata?
Try to stick to fresh, non-frozen foods, but in a pinch use what you can get! Eat quality foods whenever possible, but don't stress about it if you have to use a pack of frozen green beans. 💚
I am Vata and I have lost a lot of weight on my upper body (face, shoulders, bust...) probably because of stress and lack of sleep. I don't recognize myself in the mirror it's very depressing. I'm 31, is there still a way to go back to my old self if I make life changes ? (I'm changing jobs and have just moved to a better environment). Is it still possible to re-gain weight on my face ? My under-eyes and cheeks have sunken, I feel horrible. Thank you for your advice.
Hi there 💚 Thank you for your vulnerability. It is never too late to bring your body back into balance. This might be a really supportive resource for you: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/lifestyle/vata-daily-routine/
Bananas generally do not pair well with other foods, and Ayurveda recommends eating them alone. Ayurveda recommends that most fruits be eaten alone or with fruits that are very similar in consistency and energetics. That is very helpful, thank you. I'm struggling with vata-related MS, so I'm quite desperate to heal, and i just want to say you're so good and you really care, little recognition and lot's of love sending your way
@@zycieciekocha4945 It has been one year since your comment. Have you seen good results from following these principles?
Your voice is also vata pacifying and soothing 😊

Question… if I’m a kappa with too much vada, would I follow these recommendations?
That was really helpful. Thanks for the elaborate video.
Glad you found this video supportive!
Thank you! Amazing information... which saute vegetables do you recommend for Vata? I always have kale, broccoli and coliflower but after watching this I think I need other suggestions. I am allergy to zucchini and pumpkin
Excellent video!
Thanks for tuning in! 💚
Thank you so much lady.
Isn't yogurt considered a cold food? And when you said try to limit beans, did you mean dried beans or also green beans?
This was incredibly helpful and informative. I discovered I am Vata and will work on balancing it.
We appreciate you tuning in! We have lot of articles and resources available on our website if you need more support 💚
Very good video and information. Thank you!
You're welcome!! 🥰🥰
Haha.funny
Thank you..carry on 🙏👍
Thank you for sharing this 🙏 wonderful information on vata foods 😊 ❤️. I missed eating eggs 🥚

Healthy fats are great to incorporate for dry skin! Avocado, coconut/sesame oil, ghee, seeds/ nuts :)

Very good
were you saying its good to eat the same thing at the same time
everyday or its not for vata?
Thanks for asking! We recommend sticking to consistent mealtimes every day to help keep vata grounded. 🙂
As for the content of those meals, you do not have to eat the same thing every day. Here are some ideas for vata balancing food options you can experiment with: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-foods/

May I also ask you about what can I do with eating banana so it digests easily ?
It used to cause constipation to me and I stopped eating it
Hi Swaran! To help with constipation, try eating fruit an hour before or after other foods. Making sure the Banana is ripe too will help!
Hi
Very happy with all the shared information. Thank you very much. Have a quick question though-
Can the almond milk be consumed on regular basis by vata - pitta prakriti combination?

If you haven't already, I would highly suggest taking our Dosha Quiz. www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/dosha-quiz/
The quiz starts out by determining your constitution, which you would answer based off the time in your life when you were your most healthiest.

You are so welcome!
Thank you for the video :D the text of the dinner part is written "suggestions for kapha", though
Oops! 😊 Thank you for bringing that to our attention!
Fantastic video. However you say to avoid cheese but your lunch suggestion was pasta with pesto and cheese? Please clarify.
You gave dinner suggestions for Kapha. As seen in the graphic.
Thank you for pointing this out! The dinner recommendations still apply to Vata, it was just mislabeled as Kapha.
Very nice dear
Thank you so much 😊
god bless you for the video
You are so welcome! 💚💚💚
Thank you india

Where can I get the recipes for the meals you mentioned
Thank you for tuning in! We post many of our recipes on our website, www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/recipes/
I feel I have elevated vata and pitta doshas. How do I decide on what food to eat since the food lists are kind of contradictory?
Great question! It can help to know both your Ayurvedic constitution as well as your Agni, or digestive fire, type. You can take our Agni quiz to determine which food list may be more supportive for your digestive fire www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/blog-the-banyan-insight/details/agni-quiz/
Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the info. The dinner slide at 13:42 says Kapha rather than Vata. Could you see if you can make changes..
Good catch! We've passed that info along to our editing team and appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Thank you so much! 🙂
Can it be done I only do fruits and veggies raw no seeds no oils no legumes or cereals or roots like potatos or beets
Can you eat cooked steamed broccoli ? If you are Vata iregular
I’m trying to lose weight so I tried limiting bread doing low carb but idk what to eat I mainly eat cooked carrots chicken and lately salad cause idk what to eat
Great question! You may want to check out our Vata pacifying foods guide www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-foods/
Lol and I love bitter foods...guess I'm out of synch with myself.
I do too. I wonder if it could be to balance something else, like another dosha that is part of our package or cleansing the liver.
Can I find the recipes on your website?
Yes! Most if not all of the recipes in this video are currently featured on our Vata Dosha Diet page: www.banyanbotanicals.com/info/ayurvedic-living/living-ayurveda/diet/vata-pacifying-diet/
Give written explanation in descrption box for vatha, pitta videos pls

Can u eat banana with other food or always on it's own for vata ? Tx could I eat banana with nut butter for snack ?
Bananas generally do not pair well with other foods, and Ayurveda recommends eating them alone. Ayurveda recommends that most fruits be eaten alone or with fruits that are very similar in consistency and energetics.
