    Instead of masking tape or clamps you could also use a food vacuum sealer, the plastic bags/ rolls used by the Food Saver are typically not big enough for many other woodworking projects but they would prob work good for this.

    Thank you for sharing this, I just recently started making, designing phone cases, I love this idea. The first three I did was out of very thin wood, did some wood burning designs on them, they came out alright but was very difficult to do. Going to try this idea of yours, yours came out so beautiful again thank you.

    For the curved case, use a vacuum sealing device such as normally used for food preservation and 30 minute epoxy. The vacuum will pull the cover around the corners.

      Wasn't aware of it until you mentioned it, I just had a look though. Haha!
      I came across this idea well before Matt posted his own video, when someone sent me some images of their work and I thought it looked really cool.

    brilliant vid, i might give that a go although the case for my nokia lumia is very curved so i have some reservations about the results :/

  • @willford8475
    @willford8475 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice result, is there any chance of the finishing oil coming off on clothing?

    • @thiswoodwork
      @thiswoodwork  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The finishing oil will cure like most other wood finishes, so it shouldn't do. If you were concerned however, you could try something else, like varnish or lacquer.
      Thanks for watching, Alex.

      If it doesn't cure you did something wrong. With the oil finish (it's actually an oil/wax mixture) I used on recent projects (a dining table for example) I had no problems at all. It can in any case take stuff hotter than you would be willing to touch (didn't try pans from the stove directly, obviously). If your mobile gets that hot, that's definitely not right.
      The best thing is fixing scratches though. Just take a small rag, dab it in the oil, wipe the scratch and it's gone.

      I've been making these and selling these for a while now (with no customer complaints) and have used one of these cases on my phone for a few months now and have had no problem withe linseed oil coming off.

    Some very nice photography in this video... Do you have a new camera? When taping surfaces around epoxy, try using brown packing tape instead of masking. You will find the epoxy less likely to adhere to it...
