Thanks Rob I still aint buying one, ya know I only play in the garden and I have a de walt reciprocating saw with some diablo blades and cut up 100s of pallets for my chimnea bloody cheat and a fraud thats me keep em coming mate I love ya channel
Call it a girlie ax, but if you got to haul it any distance and you don't plan on making a log cabin anytime soon, it's perfect! I bought a cheapo Fiskar's hatchet and purposely tried to destroy it, no luck! Still a super tough hatchet and very light! Thx Rob 🙂
Nothing wrong with that wee diminutive hatchet, I bet it's a handy thing for bushcraft carpentry... I've got mini bearded hatchet (ebay jobbie from Bulgaria) about the same size that I use when making primitive / long bows and it's quite a useful tool. You were busy that day!
That does look like it saves calories! Great Vid. I carry a very lightweight aluminum splitting wedge, so I can pound the hell out of it through logs. Its the one Dave Canterbury sells on his store. works well and you wont have to worry about baning on your nice GB hatchet too hard.
I actually prefer a buckhorse with my Japanese saws, but nothing wrong with what you are doing there. Nothing wrong with that little belt axe at all, I love my little hatchets/tomahawks/belt axes and actually prefer them over a knife for most tasks. That's how I grew up though and people need to use the tool they are comfortable and trained/experienced with.
That was a nice "Quickie" for a Tuesday afternoon. Our beloved Wobbly, taking a break from the daily chores. One of my favorite girlie axes filling in. But, no bloopers??? :(
@@RobEvansWoodsman Yes, I sometimes neglect to remember that several videos, although separate, were all filmed on the same day. Or maybe I've just grown accustomed to the bloopers, to the point where I expect them. Good humour is addictive, especially when it comes naturally. And now I notice, since I've been gone, someone has left you with a thumb in the descending position.......... I'll have to think about this a while; there must be a laugh there somewhere. Oh well, "Cheers,” she said, raising her glass. ;)
Good video as usual, but I am a fan of silky saws. However I couldn’t get on with the GB Outdoor axe as it’s way to light . Owned one for 6 mths but had to move it on . I would rather use my Wetterlings wilderness hatchet for weekend camps . It’s so much better for me .
Hi Rob could you please give me you opinion I'm looking at getting a silky gomboy 270 . Now not shure what to get because there is a curved and straight blades ones with medium teeth or lage teeth one the bade could you give you give me your valued opinion many thanks. Daz
Course are always curved and are excellent for bucking up firewood. Medium are straight and a little bit slower but are better for crafting. If you carry a small saw like an opinel or swiss army type I'd probably go with the course blade. Hopefully that helps.
Hi Rob that has helped thanks so much for helping me out really appreciate it and grateful for your opinion take care rob keep those fantastic vids coming 👍
I have tried both and I like the straight silkys overall, It seems like the straight ones are sharper for some reason, perhaps easier at the manufacturing facility to deal with. The best curved blades I have found is the corona saws
i see you are using that 'girly' axe on several latest videos. May be videos from same day but wonder if you started to like the outdoor ax compared to the woodsman?
Oh! Not another video with too much talking and fire making? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👊🤘🥳💥🔥🔥🔥🔥 that was a quicky. Like going to a drive thru.INSTEAD OF A RESTURANT. GREAT TIPS ROB. I LOVE THAT WELSH ACCENT. YOUR VIDEOS JUST WOULDNT BE THE SAME IF YOU WERE DRESSED UP AS MARCEL MARCEAU.🥳🤘 AND NO FIRE.😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥even vegetarians need fire. It warms the bones and sooths the soul. GREAT VIDEO MATE.😁👍👏👏👏🤘👊🥳🔥
Every Video a new Intro. Slowly I miss the old one. Best wishes from Germany

GB Wildlife ax, my favorite girlie ax!
I'm using the GB outdoor axe in the video.
Why is the axe you're using a "girlie" axe? I didn't realise any tool was gendered, but I am naive sometimes 😎
@@Trevelyon006 it's small and light , I'm taking the piss.
The Wildlfe ax has a slightly shorter handle, slightly heavier head and no collar. Maybe a bit more athletic than the Outdoor ax, still girlie.
I don’t leave for camp without my belt axe. Very useful tool. Great vid Rob!

You were busy that day!
For processing firewood with a batton it's just about perfect, I don't rate it as a crafting axe.
@@RobEvansWoodsman Probably more suited to somebody making kindling at home do you think? - which is fine.
Great advice, keep up the good work.

any bloopers were on the previous video .

I prefer a larger axe, Scandinavian forest axe size.
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yea!, But where me tea?.
😉
I still need a girlie axe…. Thanks for the video!
you are a girlie, perfect for you.

Sorry the teeth say course or medium would there be masses of difference in cutting speed
Course are always curved and are excellent for bucking up firewood.

I use a similar technique with my trusty Laplander, I just don't push down so hard.
The curved Silkies work even better on the 45 degree angle but are worse when the saw blade is level. Curved ones are less good for crafting though.
The curved Silky Ultra Accel and tooth type choice, and with changeable handle position works well for sure.
I have tried both and I like the straight silkys overall, It seems like the straight ones are sharper for some reason, perhaps easier at the manufacturing facility to deal with. The best curved blades I have found is the corona saws

wildlife ax?
If I want a small all-rounder that I can carve with it'll be the wildlife, just wood processing it would be the outdoor.
I'm truly very confused, what's a Gomboy?
Bigboys little brother.
@@RobEvansWoodsman 👊🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤘😁
I love mine the best too! I keep wasting money on others only to try them and end up going back to my Wildlife Hatchet!
Definitely how I would do it

Short and sweet, Rob. But a little too short and little too sweet.
its difficult to please everyone.
*waits to the very end, just in case there's a blooper*
Sorry.

Make a spoon or coksa.. slöjd. carving. buy a mora spoon knife
I've made dozens of spoons , two kuksa , both split so I'm not wasting my time making another one.
@@RobEvansWoodsman did you use a Mora? ;) yeah they do crack
No bloopers..😔.. Nah seriously, Thats the best way ergonomically to use a Saw, besides using a Saw höst.
