My Grandfather was a Fitter and Turner at Midland Railway Workshops. He retired in the 1960’s and his name is on a brick in the memorial wall. Thanks for putting together this video on railway history.
The railway history is a great story and the workshops were massive and employed a lot of staff over the years. Thanks for watching. You may enjoy my ghost town videos
That's so interesting and I didn't know any of that. Well, except of where Fremantle and Midland are located. Haha. Thank you for this and all your previous video, Doug. Cheers Andy
Fremantle is such an interesting place to wander around. Lovely old buildings. thankfully not full of concrete and glass like Perth. Actually there was no harbour at Fremantle in 1829 and not for a long time after that. Ships had to anchor out in Gage Roads which was not a great place to anchor. It wasn't until C Y O'Connor got to work blasing a big rock bar across the mouth of the Swan that work on Freo Harbbour began. O'Connor was also responsible for the vast expansion of our rail network too. I've never been out to see the old workshops, have to get out there one day. Really interesting video. Never been to Coal Dam Park either. So many places still to see.
Another great video! Well done.

Thanks WA sounds like you need a trip to Midland
Midland has old hidden trade tunnels if ya didn’t know 😅
use to supply a few pubs from the river is all I’ll say
Hi Aussie, I have heard about a tunnel at a Guildford Hotel, another interesting story.
