- Best song I ever played Snare on! FESTIVO. Chelsea can play every instrument on this song. Perfectally cause thats her thing thats what she does and because she is My bestest Friend and if she couldnt play something i would just teach her but she can play all the instruments on festivo which was already mentioned in this video description box that has turned out to be nothing really about festivo accept thats the title of the song that is in this video but mostly it has just been about My Best Friend Chelsea who is awesome and the greatest serioiusly like dont doubt it because its true and thats not gonna change my mind just saying so if you want to argue about it we can but your gonna lose because I am the Greatest Cassius Clay. See? I just threw in a Boxing refernce about a concert band song! Crazy! but seriously this is a great song and the snare part is amazing its just great but not as great as my Best Friend Chelsea.
Counting to 4 has never been harder after playing this song
Lmao true asf. The first time trying to play this was crazy
The Skilled short pause ;-;
the sight reading was fun af 😂😂
Real Talk!!! Thats true
Bro I love playing this song. This song got me to count while I play other songs. But counting to four seriously has never been harder than playing this song.
I played the tuba solo on this 35 years ago. Still makes me smile
I played timpani on this piece 42 years ago ! 👍😊 My favorite
👍🏻😁 I played tympani on this 42 years ago
Tenor sax in March of 1978. Standing ovation by high schoolers? What a day!!!
My band class jokes about this song all the time. If you didn't know what subdivision was, after this song you did.
Right lol
I loved playing this piece in band. Played in middle school at state competition . Not as good as this , but for a middle school band we werr awesome that day !!!!😁 Superior score !
We played this when I was in 10th grade, I was a percussionist. As a senior, I had to conduct a piece at our spring concert. I chose this one. Director thought I was crazy, tried to talk me out of it. You think its fun playing this song. Conducting this was the time of my life! That was in 1984. All I remember is nervous as hell on the downbeat, and standing ovation from crowd AND the band at the end. We may have sounded great, or horrible. Who knows. It was fun. Thanks for posting this!
I banged this out of the tympanis in 1980 as a freshman in HS... I never knew what the piece sounded like from the front of the orchestra until now
I played the tympani part on this song at concert in 1973. Still make s me smile and I can still play it at 62!
I was a snare player in my high school class for this song in 04. It still makes me smile too
Yes
This piece gives me chills. My favorite, also love Masque !
this takes me back to my freshman year. We used to be good man...
+Bilbo-$wagins I know exactly how you feel.
I play the trumpet, and this song is the most fun for band class, of all the songs I've ever played. I love it.
You better know how to count music if you play this. Because if not.... Your gonna have a bad time.
Trumpets had rests for days like damn
Napstablook especially if you have the timpani part... Well I guess not as much.
If you got lost in the music, you were in bad shape until you caught up with everyone else.
for the saxs we had a 25 measure rest then everyone lost count and the conductor got mad XD
Peacherboy1 the hardest part was the section near the end of the first allegro up until the meno mosso
Tempo is very good!
This music is very difficult about tempo.
I have heard many performances but too slowly or too quickly....
I like this performance!
Just finished this son as a 2nd clarinet. You think you know how to count but this proves you wrong.
Epic song. Our conductor did some research and it turns out that Nelhybel wrote this song intending to pit the woodwinds against the brass, with percussion driving the battle. AWESOMENESS!!!
First song I played with the high school band as an 8th grader. I had the tenor drum part. It's kind of a conversation between the tenor drum and the snare drum at 3:41. It's pretty kick ass.
I am playing this now baritone and love this song
This is a great percussion song. I played the tympani part n our high school concert band. It was a challenge but we won a ONE rating in contest. That was 45 years ago but I still remember the part
austin teutsch I did too! I was the only grade 10 in a grade 12 class in my music class. Timpani all the way 😄
austin teutsch I did the in 1980. Wow
If you do, make sure your part is the same volume as the snare and that your cymbal player accents with gusto on his part, in short, don't be shy. This is powerful song!
the timpani part makes me want to throw my music in the trash :(
I have the subdivision for tympani ingrained in my brain
I remember it like just yesterday. I played the tympani. FINALLY we did not have to count and count and count and count for just a few measures of playing!
Played lead trumpet on this in 9th grade in 1973 at Travis Junior High, Paris, TX, under the direction of Kenneth L. Griffin. One of my favorite all-time pieces.
Played this 71-72, Horace Mann Jr. High, Amarillo. Conductor David McCutcheon. My husband did it the year before at Antlers High School, Mr. Raines conductor.
playing this for our decembr concert along with Canto, American River Songs, and Armed forces of Parade
Playing this in February! !Clarinet all day!
8th grade concert band , clarinet, McKeesport PA Many many many years ago. It's great to read that ithe counting was a pain in the ass to others! Great memories! Thx for posting.
We played this at festival one year I played trumpet my section killed it the judges said it sounded like listening to the recording
We played this a few years ago and I was the only low brass kid in the highschool band (we’re a small band) and I was basically the only on playing at 1:03 and around 2:48 where you hear a low brass section, I felt so much pressure! Needless to say it was so much fun and I’d happily play it again
I lovevthis piece, I played tympani on this 42 years ago. Some of my best memories were in band.
I like the bit you put at the beginning XD
I love this song
I play timpani on this next week. Literally the best part imo
+wundrweapon so true!!
This brings me back to high school band...great song!
listening to this helped me learn the snare part
We played this in my Band, along with Fire Dance and Blues Brothers. We did amazing! I loved all of them too!!!
Fire Dance sounds pretty good
It is c:
How wonderful to hear this!! I was a high school senior in 1969 when this was new music and our band played it. We were amazed; had never heard and played such a dramatic and fun piece of music! I was the tympani player: what a thrill to be part of a percussion section for something like this!! Thanks for posting and sharing it here!!
We're playing this in band currently and I was like "hmmm I thought I was good at counting but nope "
Aw, this was my favorite song from high school band. I miss it!
Omg 3:41 🔥
Playing the snare drum part right now! wish me luck! :P
Matt Good luck!
I've played both snare and tom for this and I personally like tom more
You can do it! I played the snare part for this song while in my HS concert band (which was a really great band). That was in 1976. Had a blast playing this song. Fast, complex and fun!
Me too! Good luck!
This takes me back to 10th grade in high school. Man I miss my old band teacher and how it sounded
Currently playing this for my highschool band competition. Such a cool piece!
I had to double check my ears/memory when the opening of this showed up at the end of one of the songs on the new Guided by Voices album. Crazy!
When I was a senior in high school (1988) our band from Terryville went to Florida and played this song and we took home the bronze against 110 person choirs and the like. We had 44 musicians. By the way Terryville is from CT
Why is one of the cops from Blues Brothers at the beginning?
Love this song
We are playing this at our spring concert;)
Were playing this for our next concert and I play timpani and I love this part so much! Even though its a TON of counting and concentrating
I also played snare (most times) on this song. What I've never had is a band with enough drummers so we can have all the middle section mallets covered without having one leave that part to get back to snare, toms, etc. that way the effect of building and generating some dynamic excitement. It also helps us find our place when we switch music stands and parts, This is an exciting part to the whole band. It is described by one conductor as a war between woodwinds and brass where the percussion wins.
Brass *always* slows us down. Fellow drummer here :P
Currently playing this in concert band. It's pretty fun. Love playing it. Not the hardest song, or longest, I've played in concert though.
French horns towards the end of the song have to play in our high octave and it's getting better but still difficult
Hunter Corbin I feel u lol
Same I play French horn and it does get difficult at times
yooooo I'm playing snare on this in my concert tomorrow. Hardest song of my life
i have to learn this by tomorrow. i have to learn it on bells and on tenor drum. i have a test on it.i;m in the Bellflower High School Marching Band
Played this as a. 8th grade Conner middle school! Loved
Mr.Blackmon, its me, Rex, if you are reading this, hi. :)
I absolutely love this piece. Varying styles all in one song, which really appeals to me. Lovely harmonics and beautiful mixes of parts. Well done~
playing the bass clarinet part in band right now and I love it
I played bass clarinet too 20 years ago, and it was hard keeping up, but it was a fun challenge.
Yay! I am playing this in my school band :P
this is such a good song. im playing this in band right now
This song is amazing! I played this 2 years ago as a sophomore on Bass Clarinet!
Playing this for concert season this year. Can't wait :)
Lol at that guy who said this wasn't challenging. Sup to my fellow Van Biuren Freshman Academy kids reading this. On this video you guys played that mena moso way fast o_o. I play tenor drum on this song, it's great.
So many inconsistent rests! I'm playing 1st Clarinet. It's a counting nightmare, but still a great song.
we are playing it this year.. i love it.
Last year we tried this song and the teacher decided to not play it. This year we have a new teacher an she wants to play this. This song is the reason why I love to play percussion.
Ahh remember playing this my junior year and at the U of M Clarinet Mafia! XD
I played the bells and snare for the when the snare took a break and then had to suddenly kick tempo back up, Definitely one of my favorites
she showed this to us and then we never played it again
amazing song
BEST SONG EVER!!! MARESMAFWO!! GOLD MEDAL!!
we're playing this now in my high school band (I'm on snare & bass drum), so many counting errors, but it's coming along.
I'm conducting this for a concert one day :D yay to drum majors :3
I remember playing dis in 7th and 8th grade
We played this piece my 8th grade year. Superior rating too. This version is different.
The version we are playing in 7-8 band is a little different as well.
Eric Escalante Lol I am playing it right now in eight grade :P
I agree Austin Rider!
We played this for honor band and we only had a day to practice it! There's a part near the end that I thought we played with the trumpets but others thought differently!
Playing this on the Carnegie Hall stage on March 28, 2016
Any other eighth graders play the timpani part on this song???? I LOVED IT
Same but I am playing trombone

Ikr I love the ending I read this comment as it’s there the drums is the best part and cymbals
We'r playing this for our spring concert this year, although it's gonna be at a slower pace. Hope we can do it awesome like this!
The ending is the best part of this song!!!
im in 7th grade and we are playing this and so far it sounds great
o hell yes. Played snare for this in the 8th grade
I can't play!!!!!!!!! I'm dead. My conductor is gonna scold me
I’m in 8th grade band and I’m a trombone and we have to play this for festival band
Mr. Nelhybel was CZECH by birth & American-US citizen by adoption. He lived to see both the brutal Soviet suppression of Czech Prague Spring & his homeland's casting off Soviet shackles. I had the good fortune when young (1960s) of being in an all mid-Tennessee high school band w/ Mr. Nelhybel as guest conductor. He loved American HS & College concert bands and conducted many work shops. I agree that some parts are too fast tempo, but the piece is nice nevertheless. Influence: Smetana not USSR
the trombone doesn't sound hard but it is pretty hard. We have to count ALOT!
MisfitMowers Sct yes we do!
That description probably got him a 'favor' from this Chelsea friend.
Playing it now in middle school band!! Absolutely love it but not as much as Hawaii 5-0!!
Happy 50th Anniversary to this piece!

@Hellfire918 what other videos have my guy talking? like what other videos?
Where is the intro from?
Does anybody have a recording of VN's Yamaha Concerto? He wrote it in 1970 for the Yamaha Corp's Wind Band. I am dying to hear it again.
I played this in 8th grade. fun to play on bassoon!
I have to play this for a mpa consert, and I'm in flute and we have trouble in our part that we have to do
The baritone part is my favorite
First trumpet part is fun too
@Jwend392
That's so hilarious. I always kinda thought so too, when I was playing it in HS band...30 years ago or more.
I'm playing this song on trumpet it's so much fun to play.
