  • Zack goes head to head with one of the worst ever CrossFit workouts, can he survive it physically? Emotionally? Spiritually?

    As awful as workouts like this are, there is something about being alone in a gym or a garage, no music, just you and your own weak quitter mind and you shove that down and overcome. Great work man

    • @zacktelander
      @zacktelander  ปีที่แล้ว +57

      It was interesting projecting my quitter mind out loud to a camera. i’ve never done that before. it almost helped in a way.

      @ivan_9386 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Training with music is 'cheating'.
      Try to run without music, completely different experience.

      @@zacktelander there was a study done where they had a group of people walk around a room saying “I cannot walk around a room.” And then they had them take a pain tolerance test. They compared this to people who just took the pain tolerance test, and the people who walked around the room lasted 40% longer. They’ve hypothesized that this has to do with the fact that it teaches you that your thoughts don’t control your body, so you’re less likely to listen to them, and I imagine you kinda did the same thing.

      @@zacktelander david Goggins talks about how when he is having a hard time getting motivated he will say out loud into a voice recorder the silly excuses and thoughts of self-pity he had. Then he said, “you know what I heard when I played back those voice recordings?!?!?! I heard a little bitch making excuses!!!!!” Then he goes and gets after it. It help you to be more objective with yourself

    I watch you snatch and clean more than I ever imagine I could. And today I watched you struggle through “Linda” with just a little more weight than I would use. Watching you struggle like that gives me hope that I too can someday snatch and clean big numbers. Somehow it encouraged me in my journey seeing you truly struggle too. I hope this doesn’t come off as trolling as I am a big fan. I’m 47 with a training age of 2.

    Well done ZT, Linda is brutal.. always surprises me how anaerobic it is and nukes my CNS every time. I appreciate the full spectrum of self talk during the workout, I can relate to that big time after all my years of crossfit. Reminds me of the good times throwing around some weights at Foundry barbell club Saturdays.

  • @Emilyspace_
    @Emilyspace_ ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hell yeah, man. Love to see you grinding through a brutal workout like this 👊
    And you're absolutely right that something clicks after the round of 8 - that's right about the halfway point. 10 to 1 is 55 reps of each movement, so after 8 you've done 27 of each. Then the rounds get shorter, muscle groups get a little more rest, you keep grinding.
    Also appreciate the crossfit love - most people just think of the stupid pull ups and ugly form of beginners. But this is what it's about. The feeling you've got at the end. The "it took everything out of me but I fuckin did it" feeling. Hell yeah.

    Good for you for posting this. You should retest this in a few weeks/months and time yourself and to check your progress. Your strategy could be improved by breaking up some of those bigger, early sets so that you are able to chip away at it at more of a steady pace. CrossFit had something similar to this as a regional workout a few years ago so you can easily see some strategies keep the bars moving. Nice job finishing.
