      A damage dealing class that is also a caster that can cast immediately (unlike chanter) and doesn't have to rest afterwards (wizard/druid/priest) yeah they're pretty sweet :)

    i owe you. i did the main character as you did (bargain fighter), i did my ranger by my own min/max, and the third one of my characters is this build. it's working great but instead
    perception i maximized the constitution, and i have to say so. your guides are working really well.
    Im playing on normal difficulity

    Strange to see you saying Puppet Master was bad when I have relied on it all game, then I realised that the unpatched version was Slow speed. In the latest version, it's basically an instant conversion on a strong enemy, so I open all combats with it.

    Tenuous Grasp is actually really useful for initiation. Because you can't charm without combat already being started I initiate with TG and that usually means most surrounding enemies attack the TG'd target and give you time to engage the enemies that haven't. This also allows for time to get your Cipher in position to charm one of the other enemies (which is sometimes difficult because of the short range on charm).
    Cipher is essential in my party. So versatile with encounter spells, and can lock down most if not all enemies, resulting in far reduced damage on my tanks. I would not have gotten so far so quickly without my Cipher.

    • @MacsenGaming
      @MacsenGaming  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is a confused target always counted as a hostile by the AI? Because if it is, as you say for initiation Tenuous Grasp would be pretty excellent. Choosing those level 1 powers is really tough there isn't really a bad choice.

    • @MacsenGaming
      @MacsenGaming  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks D4rkR4ge been testing this out, didn't realize confused was so powerful it's so good I think it might be OP since unlike charmed/dominated you can attack the confused target and it doesn't lose the affliction status, and the AI still attacks the confused target, which perhaps it shouldn't unless it attacks them. The out of combat initiation and high range of Tenuous Grasp means it's a definite pick imo. I added an annotation in the video, thanks again.

    My main character is a Human Cipher with maxed out Might and Dex, I focused on his two handed skill getting everything that buffs the dmg, Soul Whip stacks nicely with it and he is the strongest person in my party by far.

    I should play this but with more perception, is not that good for the accuracy spell too? 11 seems low to me

    • @Ytinasniiable
      @Ytinasniiable 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In a d100 system small increases in accuracy are less important, +1% to hit per point of perception above 10 is less valuable than the interrupt and ability to notice traps that can be covered by party members that it gives

    • @Cat_With_A_Lamp
      @Cat_With_A_Lamp 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Ytinasniiableit's not +1% to hit, it's flat +1 bonus to your accuracy, which will affect your ability to hit and to crit. There is a d100 check, but it's only the 1st step in a formula, it looks something like this Attack Roll + (Accuracy - Defense (1 of 5,depending on the type of your attack/spell )) If you're playing on POTD (where you basically need 10 more perception to hit with the same accuracy as on normal) with that kind of perception you will have a lot of fun trying to cast anything, as for cipher to cast something you need to hit something first. I'm not even mentioning the fact that your spells as well as their AOE (it has a separate check after a hit) all depend on perception a lot. Post DLC it's basically as important as INT for cipher.
      Also perception does affect your interrupt, +3 per lvl, so you need perception to interrupt (as well as hitting the target for them to work).

    • @Ytinasniiable
      @Ytinasniiable 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Cat_With_A_Lamp in a d100 system, +1 to the roll is effectively+1%, in a d20 system, +1 to the roll is effectively+5%, when you reduce the amount you need to roll on a d100 by 1 (what having +1 accuracy does) you're changing the odds additively by 1%
      I'm not talking about how the "tuned above core" difficulty requires more min maxing than core, I'm talking about +1 to accuracy on a d100 roll being less effective than +1 to accuracy on a d20 roll
      And I mentioned that interrupt was more valuable than the accuracy bonus, and that primarily your reason for perception on core difficulty is interrupts and noticing traps, that +1 per rank in accuracy is only important on the difficulty tuned above the core rules just adds to the fact that the bonus to hit on lower difficulties is essentially irrelevant

    • @Cat_With_A_Lamp
      @Cat_With_A_Lamp 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@YtinasniiableIt's not exactly irrelevant, as your damage will depend on it, the higher your accuracy, the higher the chances for crits. Basically having 10 more accuracy than your enemy's defenses will give you around 20% of additional damage, having 20 will give you more than double that (at least according to some calculations I saw). Since on POTD everyone has higher stats you need to have more perception. I'd say for normal 16 perception would be more than enough to wreck everything, for POTD you probably should have at least 18, to be able to reliably hit enemies in the beginning of the game.
      Upd: to be completely honest, if you're playing the game for the first time and playing it on normal (maybe even hard) there is really no point in guides, the best thing you can learn outside of the game at this point is how the game system works, at least some basics. Watching builds without understanding them doesn't really help you understand the game, and when you beat the game for the first time you should have a pretty good understanding of how things work, of course if you pay attention to the information the game provides.

    • @Cat_With_A_Lamp
      @Cat_With_A_Lamp 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@YtinasniiableDid my message got deleted ? Anyway, I'll try to be short. It still affects your damage, as with higher accuracy you will have more hits and crits than misses and grazes. And 2nd thing, if you're playing the game for the first time, there is really no point in guides, maybe if they provide information on how the game system works so it's easier to understand in game. But when it comes to builds I'd say it's pretty useless without having some understanding of the game. You can find a bad or outdated build and only realize this once you've suffered for 40hours :)

    hello, great guides, I have a question, I haven't found an answer yet, how do you swap weapons in combat without cooldown? always when I try to swap weapons, the cooldows kicks in and then there is no benefit from swaping to the same weapon (like shoting two blunderbusses in a row...)

    • @MacsenGaming
      @MacsenGaming  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is possible there may be a bug sometimes it can be seem quite quick other times it's slow, not sure why tbh (Obsidian forums might know). Even with the cooldown it's faster than reloading still. There is a quick switch talent of course, good for 3/4 firearm builds.

  • @jeanpaim22
    @jeanpaim22 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I have a question: Why not bow, cause it have faster attack speed? Guns need to reload and is very lazy.

    • @MacsenGaming
      @MacsenGaming  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bows or Blunderbusses it's down to preference really. Bows are more frequent steady reliable sources of focus. Blunderbusses are less reliable but are very damage dealing and can generate huge focus very quickly. Post 2.0 I probably prefer PER over DEX except maybe in Bows case, easy to make changes with the respec ability...

      +Macsen Lets Plays Ok. What kind of armor should cipher to use?

    • @MacsenGaming
      @MacsenGaming  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      In general with damage dealers as little as possible/none since it lowers your attack speed. Just keep an eye on them being targeted, if you know what your doing you can avoid this most the time. Whoever opens combat within your party will be targeted... ranged opponents you have to watch out for.

    • @MacsenGaming
      @MacsenGaming  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Anthony. Traditional weapons (melee or ranged) increase your focus, their powers don't. You'll generate focus quickly and reliably if you attack fast, do lots of damage and have the accuracy to hit in the first place, misses don't count. The number on your portrait is focus. Check the combat log to see how much you generate when you hit an opponent. (I deleted your double post)

    is there an acceptable melee build for them?

    • @MacsenGaming
      @MacsenGaming  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi eihnxanderstorm , it depends what you mean by acceptable, when The White March expansions are out I'd like to do some more character build videos (if I can afford the expansions) a melee cipher would be high on that list.
      I'd say an out and out frontline Cipher probably wouldn't be that viable because they lack endurance and health but a more "ambush" melee type definitely would be. If you've watched my Rogue video they'd probably play a bit similar to that, you melee attack what won't/can't attack you back and pick abilities talents powers etc. that facilitate that. They'd be a glass cannon do tons of damage very quickly but get killed very easily if you pick the wrong engagements.

  • @Dollardeath
    @Dollardeath 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you advocate dex over perception when wielding a blunderbuss? You are taking +Action speed and +reflex, over +interrupt, +reflex and importantly +accuracy post 2.0? Especially since late game you get an action speed +100% leach ability.

    • @MacsenGaming
      @MacsenGaming  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't "now", this was made pre 2.0 and I haven't updated it. (The only way I can update a video is via annotations other than that I'd have to record an entire new video) A bow build might still be better with DEX arguably but gunpowder builds especially multi blunderbuss I'd probably say PER is now more important with the accuracy change.

      I disagree, you'll only need it if you mess up. Better to invest in stats that you frequently use that will help you to avoid situations where you would need resolve. This is a min max video...

      Macsen Lets Plays From what I can tell, resolve is by far the most commonly used stat in dialogue
