It's one of their less creative albums, it relies pretty heavily on past ideas, albeit with a pretty fresh production sound in my opinion, although I know a lot of people don't like the electronic drum sounds which have dated. I love the album, but it is not one of my favourites.

It is not a question of who is the best. That is subjective. The real question is who is the most important guitarist in rock. The answer is not Robert Fripp. Fripp is a genious and a master of the instrument but not culturally known or relevant to the average music listener. Using the metrics of technical skills both artistically and technologically along with cultural impact and you land on Eddie Van Halen. Fripp is music for deep listeners and music nerds in the extreme. I am one of those nerds so no disrespect at all. But, Eddie Van Halen radiated joy and danger in his playing. His swagger and wink while melting your face makes him unique in the pantheon of guitar gods. Women loved Van Halen as much as guys and VH was a cross generational sensation. King Crimson shows are a study in sausage party dynamics. Not a chick in site! Long live King Crimson.

Just listening to this for the first time ever and it kinda reminds me of a Brit band called The Enid, some of their albums have stuff like this on, except more 'orchestralized', if there's such a word. Wonder if Fripp ever knew Robert John Godfrey.
Just thinking (geesh, that hurt. Shouldn't do things like that!) RJG and Fripp DO have one thing in common, from what I've read about Fripp - never seen him or anything - complete over-seriousness about their own stuff. For those who don't know, Robert-John Godfrey of the Enid was an excellent keyboardist - he played and wrote all the band's music on keyboards, still does - but he's not as well-known as Rick Wakeman. Because he's not QUITE as good! And he HATES that! Saw them both in a London Stately Home - Kenwood House in Hampstead - and there were 2 pianos there so they started improvising a concert for anyone passing. And RJG was doing the BEEG COMPOSER thang, flopping about like a muppet with broken strings, and Rick started copying him! The crowd burst out laughing and Robert-John just stalked off! Rick shot him an amazed look and carried on playing.
What's that got to do with Fripp, King Crimson or this track? Absolutely Fripp-all! Just felt like leaving it here.
    Chris.
