Fantastic episode! I hugely prefer the proper Davis Cup format, but my big gripe with it (& 1 of my big gripes of the shortened format) is the huge importance of the best 1 or 2 singles players in Davis Cup runs. A team could have no depth, but 2 particularly strong players, & go a long way, like when Switzerland won the 2014 edition, with Federer & Wawrinka having full involvement in 13/15 live rubbers, including all singles matches. I think a quota of 4 or 5 singles matches per player in the World Group would make for a much more 'honest' team tournament, but I'd love to get your opinion. It would be unfair, in that a relatively easy opponent could allow a team to not dip into their best players quotas or play less singles matches.
