As a Bruins fan, I think that, at least Edwards' hyperbole is directed towards a great team, perennial contenders.

As a Bruins fan, Jack Edwards has been a great part of my hockey fandom for pretty much my entire life. He is an absolute homer, but people have to understand that he’s not on a national network, he’s on our local New England station that airs not NHL hockey games, but Bruins games specifically. His passion for the team and the blindness that sometimes causes is just so entertaining for us fans to watch. We know he’s being biased, we just don’t care, because we’re having fun.

Jack Edwards absolutely gets unhinged at times but the reason I think he’s better than most other local commentators (a lot of teams have them) is because he will also call the other teams goals/plays with just as much passion, especially if it’s a close game. Not all the time, but much more often than other local commentators. People forget he’s paid to have a bias. Sometimes it seems like the national broadcasters are against the Bs and they’re paid to be unbiased but no one is ready for that conversation 😂🤷‍♂️

I'm a bruins fan in Rhode Island and Jack Edwards even used to be the sports analyst for one of my local TV stations when I was little, and he still grates me sometimes, he gets real cringe sometimes. I like him at times tho because occasionally you see how passionate he really is about this team and sport and its nice to see the TV personalities show some genuine passion for your team or sport

    Love the site Eck
A Bruin's fan here since Bobby Orr days. Congrats Bergy
Edwards is a 100% Homer. He does get quite excited. Brick (a former player and local kid) is honest to a fault in breaking things down (So & So missed his man, got beat like a rented mule, missed on a shot), after Edwards gets all excited, Brick gives the honest evaluation.
No problem with the guy giving Pasta the bird. Do you think Pasta is going to lose sleep over this guy? He paid a gob of money to sit in the 2nd row, so have at it buddy. There are great fans everywhere just as there are knuckleheads everywhere. I don't judge the TB fans on this guy just as I hope others judge the majority of fans on some drunk yahoo wearing a spoked B sweater.

During the game (first 5 minutes of the second period) i texted this to my buddy:
Jack: "Ullmark makes a great safe!"
Brick: "Ullmark HAS to make a huge stop."
The 'enthusiastic kid' versus the 'voice of reason'.
      Their commentaries combined are priceless!

I always find this aspect of American fandom in sports to be so funny. You'd think the sport with the fanbase that most dishes it out to soccer about it being a pansy sport, wouldn't be full of pansy fans. But I guess that's what happens when one sport is a religion for most of the world while the other is merely seen as entertainment.

  • @angushiltz4880
    @angushiltz4880 ปีที่แล้ว +2

First thing you have to get straight is on the Coyle goal the Ref said no goal because the puck never crossed the line. That's why Edwards said what he did. Secondly, Edwards is from New England and grew up a huge Bruins fan. So he rubs people the wrong way with some of his antics. I actually like the fact that he comes across as a fan who is not ashamed of how he comes across. If you have watched and listened to Edwards you would also realize he is a fan of hockey all together and does praise and point out how good other players are.
Thirdly, when Marchand scored it showed how close of a group this is. Everyone knew how close Bergeron was and the entire team celebrated like it was their milestone. And that shows how much respect and love the team has for Bergeron.
Also like to say that the Lightning and the fans were really great in showing their respect to Bergeron.

    1. Jack Edwards is one of the very few commentators that actually use an excited voice when either teams scores (most of the time), unlike the clowns around the league that you would barely know when the other team scores listening to them. He is one of the best color commentators in the league, bringing the game to life and many times making you laugh... unless you like the other team.
    2. You’re a long time Bruins hater / Rangers fan. Just like every Rangers fan I know (born a raised on Long Island), no matter who the Bruins play, you cheer for the other team (just as my brother does as a Rangers fan). So I expect nothing less/better coming from your mouth.

Jack Edwards is the GOAT. I love how he consistently pointed out the NHL's bullshit the entire game. Including a very subtle comparison of a linesman to Tim Peel in that he "wanted to get back at Coyle" for that goal with a slashing penalty that clearly wasn't (However they gave Boston a PP for the same thing earlier in the game so it could have been a makeup call). And that the Tampa high stick no goal issue could be easily remedied by having cameras super impose a line like a car's backup camera does. "We suggested this exact thing to the NHL 5 years ago and got crickets..."

That being said he's gotten way worse over time and I'm personally very ready for a change. Everything you said about him is correct and his bias is painful to listen to. If not for blackouts I'd watch the away broadcast.
