    St. Louis Blues fans are way underrated and I'm a Minnesota fan. The thing is, all the NHL fan bases have their moments of greatness. Buffalo Sabres fans are coming back following a certain trade to Vegas and some promising young stars.

      I'm a Bruins fan and agree that Blues fans are underrated. I remember the days of the Aud in Buffalo and that place being packed every game. Currently the Bruins have sold out over 530 consecutive games, but that wasn't always the way. I think it's good to see the Sabres fans coming back.

      I'm a Habs fan and I agree with you about Blues' fans. They went how long before their team finally raised Lord Stanley's trophy?
      In the team's first years in the League, the fans were wonderful. They showed class and embraced their team. If you look at old footage of the Habs' Stanley Cup final meetings with the Blues in the late 60s, you'll notice men and even boys in the crowd sporting suits and ties and the women looking just as clean and polished.
      The only unfortunate aspect of that Blues' team was not because they failed to win a single game in any of the Cup finals from '68 to '70; but because - in hindsight - they were the team who created the monster that became known as the Broad Street Bullies.

      @@kendufresne Imagine if Buffalo was not the smallest city ever haha. It's exciting to see a year of growth get us to 280K people. When Buffalo was still selling out almost every game and getting top 5 viewership of local markets it is almost insane to think about. The Rangers do not sell out every game. To think about the population I do not understand how you can have that many people and not sell out a smaller barn even if tickets are 1000 dollars a pice. If Buffalo was half the size of Edmonton we would have sold out every game in history and beat every home teams viewership in playoff games that the Sabres were not even playing in.

    I don't know how you came up with these rankings. But I have seen several Sabres games this year that are half empty. And I was surprised the Blues weren't a lot higher. They have some of the highest TV ratings in the US. And always draw well.

    • @sigep145
      @sigep145 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will just say right off the bat that I'm a Blues fan & admittedly obviously biased, however, I was surprised to see us so low. St Louis has had strong attendance & fan support throughout its history & those fans have endured plenty of frustration & disappointment that would kill some franchises. For every high of watching all-time greats like Brett Hull or Al MacInnis play, fans have paid with several periods of uncertainty in ownership where top players were shipped out to make it easier to sell the team & almost causing the team to relocate. On top of everything else there is the tragic history of postseason misfortune where great seasons lead to some catastrophe like a goalie injury in the early rounds (such as Grant Fuhr in 1996 & Binnington last year) where players hit the golf course way earlier than expected. (President's Trophy winning team in 1999-2000 bounced out of postseason in 1st round.) Despite watching someone like Mike Keenan run off Wayne Gretzky & Brett Hull (Damn you, Keenan!), Blues fans buy tickets every season & cheer their asses off. Looking at the talented players who have worn the Blue Note, it's hard to believe 2019 was the first time St Louis celebrated winning a Stanley Cup - the oldest team in the NHL at the time to never win one. As already noted, I'm a biased observer so even though I can make the case, I won't declare Blues fans in the top 5 of all fanbases but have no problem saying top 10. At the very, very least, they're in the top half. So many players over the years who either played in St Louis only to be traded & win a Stanley Cup elsewhere (a la Brett Hull or Chris Pronger) or players who finished their careers in St Louis ended up making St Louis their home after retirement. Blues fans love their team despite all the stress & frustration their loyalty has put them through over the years. They're as rabid as Detroit or Blackhawk fans without the Stanley Cups.

In the middle of a ridiculous Playoff drought yet games watched at home or live attendance has never been the worst in the league. EDIT: Oups, I'm not talking in bad faith at all, you yeah, you're right : unlike in my initial 3 months old reply (you know, as a direct reply to OP when he commented, not 12 weeks later) I did quote his "high 90s" directly and the fact it's at best average for a major franchise like the stars. The DFW area has basically the same pop as the Province of Quebec, and the Dallas urban agglomeration is at least twice the size of MTL bigger area. In 2022-23, the Stars were closer to the Flames than any team in the top 10 in attendance, and got soundly beaten by Vancouver, Toronto, and MTL (all in a country with the same population as California lol...). Finally, unlike the cup contenders STARS, Vancouver is a literal dumpster fire, Toronto is whatever TF it is (don't ask me), and MTL is 100% a rebuilding team with several years left to compete, and yet they all crushed Dallas' 2022-23 numbers (#5, #6, and #1 respectively : www.hockeydb.com/nhl-attendance/att_graph_season.php?lid=NHL1927&sid=2023 ; WAY more precise and relevant than "arena attendance % btw). That is what I meant 3 months ago, and saw no contradiction with your first resurrection reply, in all good faith.
      I made a mistake and wrote "low 90%", which was wrong, and contradictory to my very own first reply. I somehow thought it had been OP's words from months ago, my fault.
      At least I can admit a mistake and argue in good faith, stuff you should look into imho because the more you talk, the more it looks like some teenage fanboy BS, so I won't entertain the rest of your message.

I don't agree with it, but they are entitled to the option. Last November the team had a stretch of 0,8,0. That is not shockingly exciting. February was awesome, but two months of hockey is not earth shaking. This team won 10 games in a row in 2018-2019 and had an 86% chance in making the playoffs. Fans got made fun of by other markets for being excited and they crushed everyones hearts. Believe me. This town is not happy about anything sports related right now. Im 33 and the last time this team won a round I was not old enough to have a drivers license. The last time they made the playoffs I was 20. It takes a lot to be a fan of that, but they are my team and my only team. Every market would have some attendance concerns given the performance and some of the controversies around this team. I am just glad Jack is gone so people can stop saying "let him have his surgery...... It's his neck...... it's not like he's an employee of the company asking for elective risky surgery that's never been done on a pro athlete".

    I'm delighted my Habs are listed at number one on your list, but there is no way that the Minnesota fans should be ranked higher than Leafs' fans.
    I can't think of any other fan base in pro sport that would pack the house the way Leafs fans did during the 70s and 80s, while enduring Harold Ballard's destructive practices, and then the team becoming the worst in the League by the mid-80s.
    Let's also not forget that, during those years, Montreal still had a larger population than Toronto.

    • @PG13hockeyman
      @PG13hockeyman ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Minnesota fans aren’t annoying like Toronto fans. Leafs fans always think it’s their year, every year. They’re like the Dallas Cowboys. In Minnesota, we know that in the end we’re gonna be let down, but we still support our teams. We love the sport of hockey.

      @@PG13hockeyman I like the Vikings (I AM part-Norwegian) and I will never approve of the North Stars' relocation to Dallas.
      Much of the deal in Toronto begins with their bloated sports media. Let them keep making the annual promises the Leafs can't keep. At least MLSE is still laughing all the way to the bank.
