  • In my first video, I walk through how to mount a staghorn fern (platycerium) but not on a board like usual! In a basket! Things get a little weird but the result was stunning! I hope this tutorial helps you mount your staghorn. Leave a comment with any questions!
    Materials:
    Wire basket with coir liner
    Second coir liner
    Soil
    Sphagnum moss
    Cording
    Scissors

this is so cool! Thank you! I love the whole basket vibe - everyone else seems to be mounting it on wood and I've been looking for an alternative, so I appreciate you sharing your creativity with us!

I would've use orchid bark under the layer of moss you put on the bottom, however I've done everything else you've done but I planted it straight in the basket. I admire your sewing job!

Thank you for your FABULOUS video! I made a basket, like yours, although not as pretty, in preparation for my new Staghorn cutting!

When you water it, how do you prevent making a mess indoors with water on the ground?

Good question! There are a few options. For smaller plants that are easy to move, you can put it in the sink or the shower first. For larger plants you can keep a plate or plant saucer underneath to catch the extra, although you’ll want to make sure the bottom of the plant isn’t sitting in water for long periods of time. Some people use a baster to remove the extra water.

Take it down to your sink and water it good. I never stitched mine in place it will stay and if it's to big trim it.
