I love how you introduce both yarns like they're on WWE Monday night raw!
Now you just need to "LET'S GET READY TO REVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!!!!"

I make a lot of hats with the Caron. I do find that it splits easily but it makes up such nice hats for cancer patients that I love using it. Now that I know Loops and Threads is softer, I’ll be trying that. Thanks for the review.🧶👍🏼🤗

Hello, My name is Yvette. I’ve been following your Chanel for a while now and I really enjoy your delivery as well as your honesty. I’m kind of a newbee. I’ve always knew how to crochet but nothing more than a blanket or scarf. Following you, I’ve made the hooded sweaters you made for you two children and I’m very proud of myself. I will continue following you and your ideas. Thanks so much!!!

I absolutely LOVE L&T Soft and Shiny! It’s so soft and does not fuzz up.
Not hard to undo. I e made scarves from this and given them away and the recipients always commented on the softness. Thanks as always for your great yarn reviews, Crystal! 💕🤗

Thank you Crystal. I have passed up the Loops and Threads many times simply because I am used to Caron Simply Soft and it's not broken so I don't try to fix it. I am grateful for your video comparison because now I would be totally comfortable using the Loops and Threads yarn.

I bought the soft and shiny by accident. I was not paying attention and I was looking at caron and when I found the color I liked I just grabbed it and went on. When I got home and started crocheting I realized it was not caron. Lol Yes I noticed it had more shine and it did feel softer. I totally agree with your review

Hello Friend! Since you've used both yarns I wonder if you think they are interchangeable. I'm using a patterns for a child's hat. I got into trouble on another pattern b/c I used RHSS and it turned out larger than I expected so now I'm questioning my own judgement. Thanks for your opinion! 🙂

Thank you Crystal. I'm making a combination of 2 of your toddlers dress tutorials. Both called for simply soft. I didn't have caron simply soft in cream I wanted but I did in l&t soft and shiny. The dress is coming out great. But I checked out this comparison 1st. Thanks for the great review and tutorials

I like this comparison. There were two comparisons you didn't make. Firstly, all things being equal, if they both had the same amount of colors, which one would you buy. Most new yarns that come out have limited number of colors. Company's test the market area with a limited quantity to see how it goes. If the sales are favorable they will add to the color line up. And secondly, you usually show whether it is easy or difficult to pull the worked project apart. Looking to see if it's a smooth transition or whether it snags or catches. I, personally, like the looseness of the Soft and Shiny thread because it makes the work look a little thicker, a little fuller and with that beautiful shine it also makes it look softer and warmer. As always, thanks so much for the comparisons. They help me a lot when I'm looking consider buying new yarns and/or when I 'm looking for a substitute yarn when I can't get the my usual purchase. You do such a good and thorough job. Keep on doing what you do Crystal, it is very much appreciated.

I was so glad to hear that you use the Caron simply soft to make lots of Evie's dresses... I was at Michael's and bought three skeins of the Loops & Threads aqua blue that you had in this video as well as three skeins of a lime green color also Loops & Threads, however my daughter's favorite colors of the week changed, LOL, and she no longer wants me to use this yarn she chose to make her a blanket…. Well last night I made your adorable lil' Sprite dress, which is the very first dress I've ever attempted to make, and I think it came out great.. Your instructions were so clear, you couldn't have done a better job of teaching how to make this dress, and now I've got my eyes set on making the one with the cute little white Bolero cardigan to go over it and I am going to use the green Loops & Threads yarn for it... It's going to be for my neighbor's granddaughter. The Sprite dress is for her new grandbaby and I made it in Bernat Pop (uggh!)in the blue chambray color.. It kind of came out looking more like a very muted blue almost gray color. I do not care for Bernat pop. I just didn't have any other yarn on hand fit for this hot Texas weather as I have a lot of bulky weight yarn and tons of wool. But I do have these Loops & Threads soft and shiny & to know that you use it for your dresses gives me peace of mind that it won't be too hot for the lil ones. Finally, huge thanks for taking out your valuable time to make these yarn reviews because they are truly helpful in giving people guidance regarding various yarns without pushing your viewers necessarily one way or the other, but rather giving them the facts and I like that. You do express your opinion, but not to the extent where you sound particularly partial or as if you're being paid, which I know that you're not, however there are other TH-camrs out there who are clearly promoting products for the sole purpose of making money regardless of whether they'd actually spend a single penny on that product, so I respect you a bunch for that. Much love to you and yours!

Thanks for the review crystal. I just recently bought a lot of Caron simply soft to start making a granny square blanket. I did use coupons from michaels and Joann’s so that helped. I haven’t worked with that much different brands of yarn yet. I have mostly work with red heart yarn. So this review and reading the comments helps me out. I’m finally starting to try other brands of yarn. I wondered about the store brands but I usually like to buy name brand for some reason especially if I’m crocheting for a gift.

I'm working on a lapghan with the soft & shiny. It splits a lot for me. I'm afraid it won't hold up well for washing since it's getting fuzzy as I'm working on it. But it feels really soft and it's still pretty.

Thanks for this great video Crystal. I was hoping you would do one featuring Simply Soft, and you did! I use it a lot - even though it is 8.00 a skein here in Australia. It makes me wonder if the loops and threads is more pleasant to work with being that it is a tad thicker. I love the finished product of Caron , but I very much dislike working with it. It just never feels natural in my fingers, and I can only use a clover hook with it because the dull head doesnt catch on the split threads, all my other hooks are miserable with Caron. I will definitely try the Loops and Threads. Thanks for the review!

  • @dolorescowie2508

I chose loops and threads a few years back for my first chevron blanket . It feels great to the touch, smooth and cool (I am hot natured and live in Louisiana). It washes and drys well too, keeping the shape and shine. The drape is heavier compared to Caron, and yes there is a slight wave look to the spun but, I like the way it reflects the light. Caron’s weight seems lighter, it may have better insulating properties too, my boys love their hats made with Caron’s SS.

I have used it before several times and I like it very soft the only thing that I noticed that the variegated yarn after making a shawl was letting pile (like lint) however I made a blanket with blue variegated and so far so good, to me it’s softer and it croché quiet lose and I used a 5 hook size!!

As of 11-2023 Loops and Threads is $4.99 a skein at Michaels. I had no problems with this yarn. I was actually pleasantly surprised. I bought it to make slippers with and it turned out wonderful. I think it is softer than Caron. I guess when I rubbed it across my cheek at the store, Caron was not soft. I also like "I Love this yarn" at Hobby Lobby which is also the same price and very soft as well.

Yarn Inspirations is having an outlet tent sale in Little Washington, NC, in May. A friend who goes says they have fantastic buys on Caron, Bernat, and Paton. I am thinking seriously about going. Buyers bring large garbage bags to stock up. I had a problem where one Caron Jumbo skein that I purchased locally had a lighter color in the center of the skein. I called Yarn Inspirations, sent them pictures of the problem, and they are sending me 6 free skeins of Caron Simply Soft in a color of my choice.

I am a new subscriber to Bag-O-Day so I'm going back through your past videos. I wanted to say I use both of these yarns as I am in Canada and our selection of places to buy yarn is certainly less than in the US. I am in the process of making 2 baby blankets.. one with Simply Soft and one with the Soft and Shiny. They both look great and they are both amazingly soft. The Soft and Shiny is definitely silkier but maybe it's the stitch too. Thank you for this. These videos inspire me to branch out and look for different brands to try. Too bad shipping is crazy expensive for me so I usually stick to the local buys.

Dont know why but texture of yarn is soo important for me! I've hesitated buying these yarns because they look so thin and it just doesn't look like something I would enjoy crocheting! However I do want to know if the finished product comes out nice and soft I might try them out. Somehow it looks like the stich would come out really loose. Thanks for the review!!

I enjoy both. They're some of my favorite yarns . Caron you get a little more yardage. It's spun a little more than the other so it splits more. But I still love both and the variety of colors in both.

I haven't tried this before but I do agree with you the other brand is shiner.

I love Caron Simply Soft, I don't have access to a Michael's where I live. I wish there was one near me, Michael's seems to have a large selection of yarns. Thanks Crystal!!

I like the color of that soft and shiny. And I have a serious addiction for the soft so I will be checking it out. But no Michaels near me but next time I order on line I will buy at least one skein to check it out. I like the price. It’s on sale for $2.47 today

Hi Crystal! I'm fairly new to crocheting... Just teaching myself this past November. Love your channel! Could you review 100% cotton yarns, or if you already have a video, link it? I would like to make kitchen and bath towels, cloths, etc. Thanks! ~Alina

I found the loops and threads more soft and shiny than Caron. I do see what you're saying how its spun. I did pick up a few skeins yesterday,,,last night I started a project and liked working with it! I also picked up the "pet" yarn,,,going to make my cats sweaters,,,,I already know it won't end well and will probably donate them,,but I'm going to give it a try lol.

Have you done a review on the Caron one pounds ? Im having trouble falling in love with it. I got a bunch as a gift during xmas and I feel its to ruff and stiff to make anything with . Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you I love your channel and fb page

I agree it is rough and stiff. I use it for practicing new stitches.

It seems, like you stated, the Loops & Threads Soft & Shiny needs a bigger hook size (maybe even a 6mm). I'm not sure if you noticed, but they suggest a larger Knitting Needle size, so I wonder if it was just a mistake...🙃
I must give the Soft & Shiny a try as I like Caron Simply Soft, so I'll probably like it. Thank you for the review...😊❤

I like both Caron and Michael's brand. I am crocheting a sweater with Michael's brand in the colorway Brocade. I fell in love with this colorway. I looked at the Caron Simply Soft Grape Purple Ombre which is similar to the Michael's colorway. The difference is that the Brocade (which is a purple ombre) colorway is more blended and painterly than the Caron Ombre. The color change between the various shades is softer in Michael's brand. For what I'm crocheting, it works best!
