  • In July my friend Chad and I began a 300 mile (500 km) hike of the Pyrenees Mountains along the Pyrenean Haute Route (HRP), starting in Lescun, France, and ending in Puigcerdà, Spain.
On the fourth night Chad suffered uncontrollable vomiting (and other issues) while camping on the plains below the Oulettes de Gaube glacier. The following day Chad struggled to ascend 2000 feet to Refuge de Bayssellance and then continue down 4000 feet to Gavarnie.

Yea, it was a bummer that he got hit so hard and had to drop out. I was really hoping we’d make it to Puigcerdá together.

Boy, Miguel, your friend deserves a lot of credit for the effort he made to get as far as he did. I hope he got some electrolytes in him when you were at that hotel.I am so glad he recovered.

Yea, I felt really bad for him. But there is so much livestock there it’s difficult to completely avoid at least some stomach trouble, even when you’re diligent about filtering your water. I got sick twice, and other people I talked to had problems, too.
