i played this game on my Switch in a 12-hr flight and by the time I got off the flight, my brain had melted and my spoken word abilities were reduced to "Plane IS Landed", "Airport IS Visible", "Weather IS Cloudy AND Raining", my family thought I had gone insane.

i further this tbh. I saw this game when it was shown during a direct and it really didnt sell me on it, just looked like another of those shovelware indie ones that was trying to be clever. This vid really highlights just how great the game actually is and I really want it now.

Emilie Poirier I did the LAVA IS MELT, LAVA IS HOT answer when I did it, deleting the lava altogether. I thought that was amusing until I saw LAVA IS PUSH. Now THAT is a mind screw.

Dave Cope The genius of this game seems to sell itself, even without recommendation. I watched vinesauce clear a few levels in a stream and just that was enough for me to close the stream, get onto the eshop and purchase it. I love this game so much- a fantastic brain teaser.

This is easily the most mindbendingly brilliant game I ever played! I never thought a game with a simple chalkboard art style would be one of the most intricate games ever made.

Patches have slowed down for it. What if something else in the game is being worked on 🤔
The developer has confomred that it is being worked on. It won't have level sharing however.
There actually is one, but you have to mod your game to access it, and its not 100% complete yet. Nevertheless, some people have made custom level packs, including myself. You can find a pretty neat custom level community and even a modding community on the subreddit's discord server.

Theres a level editor in the game files and the game might soon have steam workshop functionality, so soon we will have infinite levels!
I was looking forward to that until I played the bonus level on the overworld. Now I'm dreading what will happen once people figure out that TEXT ON WALL IS HIDE is a thing.
I just need to wait for the Switch version of the editor.
Then I could finally make a extended version of Cavern level 1!

At 0:45 I did "Lava is melt" and all the lava disappeared. It's pretty cool to see how some levels don't just have one solution
Listening to some of the shit that happens later in the game scares me, seeing as how I'm stumped on world 3.

For people who are still a bit unsure whatever to get the game or not: You can find a free Game Jam version of the game from itchio by searching "Baba Is You (Jam Build)" on Google. It's a bit different from the final product but it can give you a good idea what the game is like to play and whatever the final product is worth your time and money.

Holy sh** how deep does this thing go? I mean, it's impossible to have LITERALLY infinite content in this one game, right?

4 words: level editor in development
its actually not that hard to code a game like that and while infinite is impossible, the point is you can X is Y any X and any Y from set N. So that right there gets you N^2 things, then you add the fact that you can negate every rule you can make and you've got twice that. So every new element or rule is effectively doubling a number that is then squared. With systems like that the combinations get really high really fast.
But as for how can a game have that much shit coded into it? It's actually not that hard technically. If you were to program every single combination into the game such that every possible combo of blocks ran their respective functionality, it would be impossible. But you don't have too. The brilliance in this game is that per game cycle nothing actually happens, so you can have the game read the entire board and find all the keyword objects and parse them into an interpreted set of rules. Then you have those rules active for the next game cycle. Although there are nearly infinite possibilities, each functionality and each object only needs to be programmed once and they are just matched together when the board gets parsed and new phrases are found. The technical solution isn't really that complex, but using that as a game mechanic is fucking brilliant

I discovered this game through your video, and it's become my favourite puzzle game of all time. I stopped at the spoiler warning, and discovering everything on my own has been an amazing experience. Finally came back to watch the rest of this video after clearing all the levels.

Just like Fez, it gets deeper than I could ever discover on my own.
Except unlike SOME puzzles from Fez, you can actually solve them with all the information given to you in game.
For those unaware, there is some reeeally arbitrary endgame puzzle stuff for completionists in Fez where the solution to the puzzle literally doesn't exist in the game - you just have to look up online where someone else has brute forced it.

I plaid the gameJam version of baba is you some times ago, and now, I just learned that it turned into a full game ! I'm so glad because it was already so good as an "alpha". It is definitely going into my xmas wishlist !
When my brother first started playing this game, I'd been a month or two into UE4 and its block-and-thread-based visual scripting. On levels he got stuck, he'd call me over to look at it. Sometimes it took a minute, but I'd help him figure it out. Seeing every single thing on the screen as an actor you could possess really helped.
Now I am so interested in this game. Btw how do you make that mic sound so good?

5:40 that was the solution?!!? I set it up so it forms Keke Is you using the flag is you is, and so Keke was pushed on the flag to allow him to win on the one turn I was in control... The 5:40 solution seems to be more intuitive

Just so you know, the huge amount of secret end-game content isn’t new for the creator, Hempuli. The ‘new game +’ of his previous metroidvania game, Environmental Station Alpha, gets crazy with the kind of puzzles and secrets it hides in the game. It’s worth a look if you want a pure metroidvania that turns into the witness with platforming after the final boss!
I love this game but I feel a little ashamed I had to look for some puzzle answers on TH-cam. My head hurts playing this without break.

I wish there were more places that just gave you hints, pointing out ideas you might have missed, instead of spelling out the solution without really explaining what makes it tick. I found one Steam guide that did that, and that's it.

5:35 - This is amazing, I spent like 1 hour trying to figure this puzzle out, and came out with a completely different solution that the one shown here. I solved it by creating the sentence "Keke is win" , and completely ignoring the flag. This made me think of a weird manouver with the babas to turn the vertical "keke is you" to an horizontal one, which believe me, is waaaaay harder than it sounds, but possible. I didn't even consider the posibility of the solution being the one shown here, that's why I was so f***ing amazed when I just saw it. Best-Game-Ever.
It is not possible to use the babas to alter the vertical position, because the one that is already pushing the next pushes first. So you can’t make one baba push a word up and then the other push it right, because the one that pushes it up will just keep pushing it up when they both meet.
@@xian2themax It is possible, I'm telling you I did it that way. This was a while ago so I don't remember exactly how, but believe me, it can be done and I remember it took me a while to figure it out. I believe it involves having Baba is push and making one baba pushing another one out of the way.

Fun game although it gets really tough really quick. I'm a programmer and usually good at puzzle games but I still have to spend quite some time to figure out the solutions.
And then there are levels like that one extra level that is locked when you start the game that I solved almost immediately and I didn't even use most of the words available. I completely ignored the area that has skull is defeat and belt is shift as well as the word end and phrase rock is weak at the bottom part of the stage. I stopped after the first three areas or so because the game requires so much from you. (Stopped at the second warning, don't want to spoil the solutions.) It's the ever changing ruleset that melts your brain. You have to constantly remind yourself what each object's properties are. My brain is tired after 8 hours of work and it's usually still processing the programming task I was working on in the background so Baba is You is not that fun to play afterwards.
I'll come back to it at some point but right now, I'm fine with playing the latest BoxBoy. Really loved the first three games on 3DS and while I had some worries when it came to changes they made to the latest game (scoring and having to unlock hook move), they weren't that big of a deal in the end. The new box jump move made my eyes go wide. I like how they just keep adding new abilities in each game without taking any away. Makes me feel overpowered.

It's a great game. The only complain I have about it: Being confronted with a puzzle that needs you to discover a new mechanism almost every time is a little but frustrating. You beat a level, think "Oh, I got that! Now give me a slightly harder variation of this!" and nope, you must discover a new mechanism first. Give the player a rest!

But yeah, it is one of my favorite puzzle games in a long time. Some other ones I'd recommend are Recursed, Fidel Dungeon Rescue, Desktop Dungeons, Return of the Obra Dinn, The Talos Principle, The Swapper, Linelight, Braid, and Vessel. They are all pretty different in their own way, but still great puzzle games with some interesting things going on.
I personally didn't like Desktop Dungeons too much (not that I can fault anyone else who does), but pretty much everything else in that list I frickin' love. Recursed and The Talos Principle especially are personal favorites.
If you've played that many puzzle games then you gotta check out Stephen's Sausage Roll
@@acblook : I just recently checked it out since I saw I owned it on Steam. Tried to get into it, but it felt super fiddly and repetitive like Snakebird. Wasn't a huge fan of that either.
@@Bootleg_Jones : Desktop Dungeons takes a while to get into, but the blend of RPG elements and puzzle game is brilliant. Once you get more into it then it really shines, but granted you have to spend a few hours bumbling around.

Dipping out at the spoiler warning (don't have money to spend on it at the moment), but I just wanted to point out that the guy who made this (Hempuli) also made Environmental Station Alpha, a really cool metroidvania with a super dense map. I highly recommend checking out ESA, and if its quality is anything to go off of I just know Baba Is You will be a treat.

i think further fields was one of the most difficult puzzles yet and i won the level by figuring out the rule priority order..
i somehow had to rotate the Baba is You statement and succeeded only in a specific way.. yeah and it turned out reveal that kinda secret order.
whatever. as you has shown and also by trying out different ways, i found easier solutions..

I think the only part I didn't like about this game is that some mechanics weren't demonstrated as clearly as they maybe could have been. With some words I never quite understood what they did exactly and thus had a hard time solving some puzzles, since I didn't even know a word could be used in a certain way. Otherwise I really enjoyed the game tho.

It might take a certain state of mind to get in the flow of it. It's not that your dumb, it's just some minds see things at a different angle if that makes sense

I would say that the only place where the game really falters a bit is the levels with LEVEL noun and both the level completion and progression through the world solutions are almost identical except the last step. Or one of the solutions is trivial.
